One night, Madoka has a terrible nightmare – against the backdrop of a desolate landscape, she watches a magical girl battle a terrifying creature, and lose. The next day, the teen's dream becomes reality when the girl – Homura – arrives at Mitakihara High School as a transfer student, mysteriously warning Madoka to stay just the way she is. But when she and her best friend Miki are pulled into a twisted illusion world and meet a magical creature named Kyubey, the pair discovers that magical girls are real, and what's more, they can choose to become one. All they must do is sign a contract with Kyubey and agree to fight witches that spread despair to the human world, and in return they will be granted a single wish. However, as Homura's omen suggests, there's far more to becoming a magical girl than Madoka and Miki realize...
Seven years ago, Kakeru’s sister killed herself, leaving him alone. Now a teenager, Kakeru lives a quiet life with his friend Yuka and other classmates – but things change forever when he and Yuka are mysteriously transported to a frightening parallel world filled with monsters and a deep crimson sky. Though they manage to escape, Kakeru soon discovers that they aren’t alone; several other students at school also travel to the other dimension, and armed with powerful weapons they battle against its dark inhabitants. Why must they fight, and what is their purpose in the Red Night?
The main characters are fighting off an apocalypse. However, in doing so they find tragedy ends up following them no matter what they do. There are also alternate worlds/realities, not to mention multiple time lines. Both series styles are nice as well.
It is the early 1920s, and New York City has a problem of evil proportions – demons. With devil worshipping on the rise, foul spirits and monsters have begun to surface, causing fear and panic in their wake. Combating this threat is the Magdalene Order – a group of religious officials charged with exorcising the evil that is spreading throughout the city. Rosette Christopher is a young nun who takes on missions alongside her contracted partner – a young demon named Chrono. Now it is up to this unlikely pair to wield God’s power – and plenty of holy bullets – to destroy the menace in front of them and confront the demons of their past.
Although these two series are from two different genres, they share quite a few similar themes. The balance between hope and dispair, sacrifice, fighting against borrowed time, and deep partnerships...both Madoka Magica and Chrono Crusade start off with a light tone and hints of darkness, become darker throughout, and build to a bittersweet ending. Overall I think Madoka is paced better and has a much more fulfilling ending, but in terms of emotional impact and catharsis, these two series are rather similar.
In times of olde, humans live in constant fear of demons known as yoma. These vicious creatures can take the appearance and memories of humans they have devoured, thus blending into society as they freely feast on human flesh. The key to stopping the yoma lies with the tolerated yet feared Claymores - women who are half-demon, half-human, and fully fated to become the demons that they hunt. Meanwhile, in a village, the young Raki has been banished; his only crime was losing his family to the yoma. Raki is drawn to a Claymore named Clare, and together their journey begins. While Clare fights the yoma plaguing the land, can Raki help her in her struggle to retain her humanity?
Both anime have a bunch of crime fighting cute girls that decide to become less than human in order to kill yoma(c)/witches(mm). And the girls who have sold their souls in both shows meet a less desirable fate. Claymore seems to be a much more grown up or mature version Of madoka magica in Some ways (and not just because the girls are more...developed. They both have wondeful Fight scenes and for very different reasons too. But you will have to watch them to find out what they are! In my opinion you will be very happy that you did!!
In the near future, the internet has evolved into ComNet, a virtual reality world where people can play to their hearts' content. However, a malicious computer known as Grosser is causing chaos in the realm, sending dastardly programs to wreak havoc. Young Yui was just a typical girl with a not-so-typical illiteracy with computers, until a program known as IR recruited her to become a Corrector and fight against Grosser's evil doings! Armed with elemental suits, Yui will traverse feudal Japan, a land of fairytales and a number of other virtual worlds in an attempt to find the other Corrector programs and foil Grosser's gang!
Both animes are about girls who fight for the safety of others without thinking in their own.
Kimimaro Yoga could use a break. At nineteen years old, he's not only a student at Heisei College of Economics, he's also a part time employee and flat out broke. So when an eerie man offers the boy a special ATM card and an exorbitant amount of cash, Kimimaro gives in to temptation – but there's a catch. In exchange for his good fortune, Kimimaro's very future is put at stake, held as collateral by the Bank of Midas and tied to the amount of yen in his bank account. In addition, he must participate in a special battle every week in the mysterious 'Financial District' – a battle where losing against one's opponent can mean bankruptcy, a fate that carries an unthinkable cost in the normal world...
While these series may seem miles apart, they both focus on a main character that can't completely decide which world they want to live in and what they want to do with it. Eventually, they finally decide and cause a very similar ending in each. Without spoiling, all I can say is if you liked the ending in one, or the struggle to decide what's right and wrong, and who to believe, it's definitely worth giving the other one a try.
