Seven years ago, Kakeru’s sister killed herself, leaving him alone. Now a teenager, Kakeru lives a quiet life with his friend Yuka and other classmates – but things change forever when he and Yuka are mysteriously transported to a frightening parallel world filled with monsters and a deep crimson sky. Why must they fight, and what is their purpose in the Red Night?
The main characters are fighting off an apocalypse. However, in doing so they find tragedy ends up following them no matter what they do. There are also alternate worlds/realities, not to mention multiple time lines. Both series styles are nice as well.
Takao Kasuga is a lonely boy who spends his days immersed in books to escape his frustration with life. His only source of joy is the beautiful Saeki, who he secretly admires from afar. However, Takao's obsession goes too far one day when, in a moment of emotional folly, he steals the girl's gym clothes and takes them home with him. Worse, his terrible deed is spotted by Sawa Nakamura, a mysterious outcast who sits behind him in class who threatens to reveal the boy's secret unless he promises to engage in a contract with her. At first it seems Sawa just wants some companionship, but soon it becomes clear that this "contract" involves more than mere afternoon chats. In fact, Takao is about to discover just how dangerous his bond with Sawa is and how it threatens to tear everything - his life, his love, and even his sanity - apart.

Both animes deal with preteens bestowed with powers beyond their capacity to comprehend. They also show the dire, hidden consequences that come with the price of being superhuman. In Madoka, the girls are influenced to choose to become magical girls, while in New World, the children are born with superpowers into a society that uses forms of brainwashing and thought control to keep the citizens docile. if you liked one, you'll surely like the orther.
In the Middle Ages, a woman named Jeanne D'Arc claimed to hear God's voice. She led a lonely life and was burned at the stake, despite being the voice to lead France to victory in the Hundred Years War. In today's world, she is reincarnated as Maron Kusakabe, a girl whose mission is to prevent demons from stealing people's hearts. To do this, she must steal any artifact that they possess. Her best friend, Miyako, is a detective looking for the thief, without a clue that she's right under her nose. Will Maron be able to save the world from destruction, or will she be caught red-handed by her friend?
If you liked Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica, I'd recommend Kamikaze Kaitiou Jeanne. Madoka Magica is well known as an anime that redefines the magical girl genre. It features dark aspects to this usually light-hearted type of show. Like-wise, Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne touches base on this aspect of magical girl life. Both characters also have a supernatural side-kick who plays a sizeable role in the show's plotline. Even though Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne is considerably older, and has plenty more episodes than Madoka, it also focuses on a school girl struggling to balance her two lives, and be the best magical girl possible.
Both animes seem to have a lot of things similar such as that they have magical girls. They seem really similar in a big way.
