Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage

Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage

It has been a year since Rock joined the crew of the Black Lagoon, and while becoming accustomed to life in Roanapur, he also gets involved in many dangerous circles. With the level of violence increasing by the day, Hotel Moscow takes advantage of Rock's talents, and he soon finds himself intimately involved in their struggle for power. A series of events eventually lead Rock back to Japan as a translator for Balalaika, where he soon finds himself confronted with the choice of returning to his old life or continuing with the new. While questioning where his morals lie, Rock must decide, once and for all, whether or not to call the Black Lagoon home.

If you want something easier to view than Madlax, Black Lagoon 2nd Barrage should interest you. Black Lagoon features more gun action, a bit of a lighter feeling, and is faster-paced.

Both series are about groups of women who have dangerous day jobs which involve escaping with their lives and toting big guns. No matter what the job these women complete it. If you liked one then you will surely like the other.

Grenadier

Grenadier

In an era where guns are replacing swords, samurai are desperately trying to keep their ideals alive, though many become honorless mercenaries in desperation. Yajiro Kojima is one such mercenary who led an average life until running across the beautiful Rushyuna Tendo, an expert gun wielder (known as a senshi, or Enlightened One) who upholds one ideal above all others: never kill, simply destroy one's will to fight. Together, the duo travel the world encountering dangerous enemies and bathhouses galore, all while removing their adversaries' "armor" with a smile!

Though Grenadier is more episodic and doesn't have the plot quality Madlax has, both utilize fights that are hyped up with truly fitting music. This, in turn, hyped me up during parts of the series.

Both have a very strong plot and a very skilled assassin as the main character. It is hard not to link these two anime. Gungrave has a bit more character development though and a different drawing style.

Hitohira

Hitohira

Asai Mugi's everyday life is very much impacted by a singular problem: she suffers from extreme shyness. Her sole friend Touyama Kayo would like to help her out as they've just entered high school, but Mugi's shyness is the sort that steals her voice entirely. It is too bad for Mugi that a freak shout on her part attracted the attention of Nono Ichinose. Nono is on a mission to save her Drama Research Society, and she isn't prepared to accept shyness as excuse from on-stage performances! With a small group of close friends to encourage and educate her, Mugi will be given a chance to be more than she is now. But, can someone so terribly shy really become a stage actress in just a few short months?

The thing that connects Madlax and Hitohira are the main characters. Margaret and Mugi have a lot in common (up to the level of looking quite alike). Both have their minds far from reality, but eventually they have to face it no matter how harsh it is. Compared to Madlax, there are no action scenes in Hitohira, but still there is a big chance that you might like it.
