Allright. It's been a while since I've done something like this so bear with me as I try to find my way again.I did quite a lot of them in the past on a different website which you can find here: http://legendsofsatura.net/index.php/forum125/6-reviewing-guild.html ....They probably aren't very good though but please do stop by if you have the time and inclination. Originally the site was for writers, mostly original but also fanfiction. Also I'm Dutch so there will be spelling errors. If you find them annoying give me a shout and I'll try to fix them. Oh, I will try to keep spoilers to a minimum but there will be some. Usually the worse I rate an anime the more spoilers this will contain. You have been warned So, you have probably already read what the animation is about in the discription given by Anime-Planet, which is the same as on the box. I will therefore try not go into the story that much unless I'm ranting about something (spoilers). ART: The art is pretty well done actually but then it usually is in these type of anime and the relative young age of it. Now with CG it is so easy to make a beautiful looking anime for relative few funds that are for the most part absolute garbage in their content. Action scenes are smooth and easy to follow. Characters are easily identifiable. SOUND: Again, no complaints. Nothing stood out to me music wise but the effects were nicely done. Again very hard to mess this up in this day and age. Voice acting was up to the usual Japanese standard of excellence but they really had nothing to do with the characters so their talent was pretty much wasted. CHARATERS: Ah....Here we go. Raishin is our main character and he is our standard hero type out for revenge on the man who slaughtered his entire clan. On the one hand he is totally dedicated to revenge to the point of do or die but then he backs off because his personal code doesn't allow him to go through with it. (Will explain later) Yaya is the Machine Doll gifted to him (something not explained untill later so keep this in mind as this will make the first few episodes make more sense) and she is the best Doll ever created (His words, not mine). She looks like a 14 year old girl and you know what that means right? Indeed, she throws herself at him at every opportunity either clothed or unclothed. Since she is a Doll that means that they can get away with a bit more nudity than usual in these kinds of anime but really...meh. She is also very jealous so any girl talking to Raishin is a possible rival (Has not been funny ever). There are much more characters but I stopped caring 2 seconds after meeting them in the anime. Several seconds later I wanted them all to die because they are among the most annoying characters I've ever seen in anime form. STORY: Here the plot in a few sentences: Boy is from famous Japanese clan but is utterly useless. His clan is destroyed leaving only him alive to swear bloody revenge. Mysterious stranger just strolls along and offers him all powerfull Doll to exact revenge with. Rushes off to school where murderer is to enter tournament (yes really!) where he will eventually face murderer in the final round as he is the most powerful dude in the school. Our hero is ranked second last....out of over 1200 students. Got all this? Good, because you can now close your eyes and literally predict everything that is going to happen. And you will be 100% correct with one exception. You never get to see the final battle as the anime just quits during the beginning of the tournament. Of the 1200+ students in the school only the top 100 may enter the tournament. The lowest rank starts first so rank 100 will fight number 99. The winner of this fight will fight number 98 and so forth. Last to enter the arena to fight is the villain who is number 1. Our hero is number 100, so yeah. This will take a while. The anime just quits during his round fighting number 87 and this was by no means concluded during final credits. Now the series spans 12 episodes and these cover the first 3 books of the 15 books made so there is plenty of material left to adapt. Question is: are they going to? Second question: Do I care? I have to give them this though, the tournament is not the main focus of the story but a means to an end. Only a few fights get fought on the tournament grounds while the majority of the action takes place off it. While this is a good thing the problem is that it usually involves a villain of the day with a scheme that would make a Bond villain weep with joy. The first one was ok, even though you could easily figure out who the villain was the other 2 arcs suffered from such bad characters that I had to force myself to keep watching. The humor in this anime will make my dentist very happy. The humor was so bad that I gritted my teeth so hard that there will be plenty for her to do on my next visit. Not only was it not funny they repeated the same unfunny jokes multiple times. Do not think 2 or 3 times here but 5 or 6 times. Even if you thought it funny the first time I dare you to find anyone still laughing after seeing the same lame joke for the 5th time. Allright, spoilers. Raishin will never win. It is stated early on that he is not very skilled and powerful as he ranks second to last in a school that has over 1200 students, all of whom study and have Machine-Dolls. As only the top 100 may enter the tournament he can either study really hard or beat one of the 100 top students and take their ticket. He goes for the latter showing that he is not as stupid as people say. His target, however, is one of the top seated entries and very powerful indeed. As he prepares to fight her she is suddenly ambushed by a large group of other students who are after some payback. Instead of taking advantage of this opportunity he decides to help her and then call of the challenge as she is unable to fight any further. This is the man who swore to do anything for revenge and would stop at nothing to get it. He gets the perfect opportunity to get a seated spot and cruise into the tournament and leaves it. And the tournament is only a few weeks away....oops. But I'm sure that there are plenty more chances right? Opponents are stupid: During the first arc is it explained to Raishin that while Yaya is indeed very powerful but she has 2 weaknesses. She can't fight against water and air type Dolls as they has no substance for her to grab onto and use her superior force against. So what happens? The villain of the first arc has a Machine Doll that can use multiple powers. Initially the Doll uses water based powers and kick Yaya's ass is all sort of ways. Seeing his total dominance over his hapless victims what does the genius villain do? He changes powers to something that is NOT air or water based and gets gis ass handed to him by Raishin and Yaya. Why did he switch powers? He clearly stated that his Doll can use the stolen powers only once so why waste any powers and simply use the one that is working perfectly fine to finish the job? It's like throwing someone into an escape proof pit and than stand there gloating like this: "MWUHAHAHHAHAAA!!! Finally I have you right where I want you! You'll ever escape from this escape proof pit that I have just thrown you in!" "Unless you use the secret escape route that I've installed for no appearent reason. You can find it by pressing one of those rocks in the corner....No, al little to the left.... A bit higher.... Yeah, that's the one." "Stay away from that and you'll spend the rest of your days rotting away here and.... Wha?! Curses! He escaped! How did he manage to foil my perfect plan!" Kill the extra's! A bit harsh you may think but deservedly so. Frey is a main character who gets introduced during the second arc as she tries to kill Raishin in the most pathetic ways possible. To clarify, she tries to poisen him but couldn't fnd any poisen so used salt instead. This is supposed to be funny but it is done so badly that I didn't laugh once during any of her attemps. Her brother, Loki, is a lot stronger than her and where she ranks 99th he ranks much higher. His commedic spiel is that there are 3 things that piss him off. The first 2 remain the same but the third is always different and is relevant to what Raishin is currently doing. It is brough in such a way that you know rather early on that he, Frey and Raishin are going to team up at some point and become fast friends. In the third arc a truly useless character appears and she is Henriette Belew, the younger sister Charlotte. Now Charlotte is the one Raishin challenged in the first arc and instead of beating her ass he let her go and befriended her. In fact she has a bit of a crush on him to Yaya's dismay but Raishin is, of course, completely oblivious. Henriette is a troubled young girl though who is used as leverage against her sister. Because of this she tries to do the sensible thing and contact the proper authorities and.... Wait, what?! Oh, sorry. Must looking at the wrong anime. She tries to do the right thing by trying to kill herself over and over again. Raishin becomes involved when she tries to jump off the roof in front of him and he saves her in a nick of time. And here comes the funny part: Henriette is terrified of being violated by men so whenever one touches her she flips out and start hitting and throwing stuff. Bitch I just caught you going head down from a roof and saved your ass! Being touched by me is the least of your worries! Remember, she does this every single time! And Raishing saves her quite a few times. And this is funny. Please laugh. I was seriously rooting for Raishin to toss her into a bottemless pit and he certainly got the chance doing so but saved her insted. You dumbass! You had the chance right there! There were NO witnesses either and would have gotten away with scott free. Just say that she got away from you for a second and jumped into the pit herself. Raishin should be dead. As the series continues you learn more and more about the Dolls and their masters. Basically the master supplies the Doll with the power to function. The Doll therefore constantly drains its master of energy and Yaya in particular. It is stated multiple times that because of this steady drain on Raishin that he recovers much slower than other masters. In the first arc he gets the shit beaten out of him by the villains' Doll and suffers from multiple broken ribs and other wounds. And this was before the final battle where he got hurt a bit more so he's already fairly beaten up before the second arc even begins. In the second arc he gets his back sliced open by a massive sword and is nearly killed. But since he is the main character he all but leaps out of his bed to fight the root of all the evil in this arc and goes right back into action collecting more wounds. The third arc starts with both Loki and Raishing still in hospital but action calls and Heroes never die so Raishin checks himself out and goes into action. Punches fly and Raishin gets his ass handed to him not once, not twice but three times before pulling a Deus ex Machina in the third fight that results in the villains fleeing the scene. Not defeated but retreating to adjust their planning and here is where the anime ends. I hope you took notice all the number of fights Raishin was in and the damage he took during them. Compare that to what the doctor sain about him healer SLOWER than average. This has him running aroung fighting life and death battles while being pretty much half dead before every single fight even starts. How is this guy even still alive? Don't tell me any bullshit that much time has passed between the arcs because supporting characters who got hurt along with him are still in the hospital at the start of the next arc. So side characters heal faster than Raishin but every single time he checks out first against the express wishes of the doctor. So he's Wolverine in his younger years and healing slower has made him heal at the same pace and ordinairy humans now? Is that it? Because the way I see it the dude is pretty much dead or he should be anyway. He got his back sliced open in such a way that it just missed his heart and lunges by millimeters. You do know that the ribs and shoulder blades are also there right? So the sword certainly sliced to any number of ribs in order to get so close to the heart. Together with the already broken ones he suffered in the first arc he's fast running out of ribs so how is he even standing and walking around, let alone fighting? So if you want to see an anime that has a medical wonder running around with lots of underage scantilly clad girls than this is certainly for you.

Machine-Doll wa Kizutsukanai is a light novel that was written in 2009 and is still ongoing, as you probably know they have adapted this into an anime, the light novel was written by Reiji Kaitō, and I have just started to sink my teeth into the manga after watching the anime. The storey:    It is the early 20th century; Raishin Akabane is a student puppeteer from Japan, who has come to the Walpurgis Royal Academy of Machine Arts in England to study the emerging field of Machinart: a combination of magic and technology with military applications. He is accompanied by a girl named Yaya, who is actually his Automaton: a living machine doll powered by magical circuits specialized in hand-to-hand combat. In the Academy, there is a combat tournament exclusive to the Top 100 students and their automata, to decide who shall be bestowed with the title of "Wiseman", the greatest puppeteer. well now that's out the way, the storey is very interesting it isn't just a simple "well tournament better beat some shit up by going super sayian" it all centres around the "bad guy" killing the "good guys" family and well he's pissed so he wants revenge which he can only do via the tournament however things keep getting in the way because other characters want to become the "Wiseman" too. It is an easy to follow storey and there is not too many plot twists that m night shyamalan sampa would be proud of. Nevertheless, I did feel that there was a deeper plot that they have not touched that much.  Animation: this is the one bad thing I don't like about this anime, it nearly dropped it because of this, the animation is very wishy washy if that makes sense, if not ill explain: normally when you watch a anime its very bright and the colours and noticeable and if its night time you can see what's happening, but with anime I  think they wanted something different which hey good for you, but there were times when I had to play around with my TV to see what was happening because there was this lack of colour and light.   Characters:  ok I said before how I nearly dropped this anime the characters saved it, I love yaya and her clever innuendos and logic, also the other characters were very good at supporting both the main character and at the same time being remember able, some animes focus too much on the main character(s) but this had a good balance. They were also able to show a deep bond between Raishin and yaya, I sometimes forgot that they were partners and yaya was a machine.  Sound:  I have no complaints it was very average and the opening was less remember able, however I do not watch anime for the sound.  Overall:  I've recommended this to a few friends and they weren't disappointed, the anime is funny but still lots of action, and they explain stuff a lot more effectively then some animes that just go with the flow of things. the best way to judge whether or not you'll like this anime is just by watching the first episode, the first 15mins I knew I'd love this anime
