Full Moon wo Sagashite has a very similar plot as Lovely Idol, though it spans much longer and has a hint of romance. LI and FMWS are about an idol who starts out at nothing and works her way to the top. Another similar thing is the drama with the female leads (Misuki and Misuki); no, I'm not talking about how their names are also the same, but they both have a little drama in their lives (though the details differ). If you enjoy a large amount of music then you'd like ether series, as there is always constant singing in FMWS and LI.
