Sana and Mikan are very similar. They both speak their minds and always seem right. They're both energetic protagonists who have a problem with the school's "devil".

Himitsu Himitsu says...

Kodomo no Omocha has superb 'laugh out loud' (sometimes eccentric) comedy backed up by a lovable main character; luckily, so does Gakuen Alice. The comedy elements are the same, but things do get more dramatic. Not to mention, both male protagonists are aloof. If you like one, you'll definitely enjoy the other.

Reawen Reawen says...

Kodomo no Omocha & Gakuen Alice are quite similar in many ways. The main character (Sana in KnO & Mikan in GA) is a super-hyper little girl who's maybe a little dumb at times, but still seems to make friends with everyone. Enter the troubled boy (Hayama in KnO & Natsume in GA). Girl & boy start out mortal enemies, but somehow end up being the only ones who can really understand each other. Girl breaks through boy's tough shell, and they live happily ever after... well, not quite. Like most school couples, they seem to have a hard time realizing their own feelings. Troubles abound, untrustworthy teachers interfere, and confusions about "who likes who" arise. Kodomo no Omocha is quite a bit longer than Gakuen Alice, so there are more twists and turns. But the heart of the stories are very similar, so if you liked Kodomo no Omocha, you should definitely check out Gakuen Alice.

Lolo Lolo says...

Kodocha and Gauken Alice both have a hyperactive young girl and show her daily school life full of drama and excitement. Also there is the whole love element between the main character and the "bad boy" character. Both series are very cute and fun to watch.

LadyRelm LadyRelm says...

Both of these anime's are about a young girl and her school life. The ups, the downs, and everything else inbetween. While Gakuen alice does contain more fantasy themes, the main character of both Anime's is hyper almost every moment of the day. If you like one, you will most definately love the other.

Animedreamer240 Animedreamer240 says...

Kodocha is like Alice in a more realistic way, and Alice is like Kodocha with super powers. Apart from the fantasy aspect, the anime are extremely similar in their characters. Sana and Mikan, the protagonists, are exactly alike and interact with the same kind of people. If you have seen one of the anime, you will most certainly enjoy the other.

suiru suiru says...

It's impossible not to watch Mikan from "Gakuen Alice" and not be reminded of the talkative, high-energy protagonist from "Kodocha." That being said, people who loved Sana's guts and spontaneity will definitely identify with Mikan, and enjoy watching her.

Shirono Shirono says...

Child's Toy and Gakuen Alice feature pretty much the exact same protagonist and antagonist, though they come by different names. That aside, both are extraordinarily well-written and interesting animes: a young girl changes the hearts of her classmates with nothing but an obsessively optomistic, loud, obnoxious, and annoying personality. Child's Toy is about a regular school with a child star, and Alice is about a magical school. So if you're wondering what it would be like it Sana had magical powers, or if Mikan didn't, check the other one out right away.

MariJine MariJine says...

While both anime plots are centered around children, the protagonists frequently display attributes of maturity that enable the conflicts and romantic complexities in both stories to be more identifiable and real. Both series are filled with enjoyable comedic moments as both heroines try to get through school life while having to deal with complicated boys with stubborn attitudes!

Szwagier Szwagier says...

Well the main lovers pair is basicly the same setting in both animes. "Overly Hyperactive way too cheerful girl" meets "gloomy dark and scary leader of deliquents, that is actually a kind person holding dark secret". They fight at the beginnig, than they start being friends and eventually start falling for each other. And they are all just kids.

Both of the main characters are both a bit slow and not really the smartest, but they are kind and they do what they think is right. There is also a guy in both animes that really care for the girl and both have a really nice plot line.

Claptrap Claptrap says...

It's hard to not watch the series and immediately draw comparisons with the other - an energetic talkative and spunky orange-haired girl meets a cold, tsun delinquent boy who is struggling with a painful life. Both have a strong supporting cast who often gets involved in their adventures, and both take dives into drama with their casts at different points. Ultimately, Kodocha has a bit more serious drama - though Gakuen Alice also has its own share, but they're 'mostly light' stories about a girl who is determined and will never back down.

ImTheMushroom ImTheMushroom says...

THESE TWO HAVE A LOT IN COMMON.

The setting is both in middle school and the main leads are all about 12 around that.

Both have

- Boisterous Fl who yells (A LOT) and makes friends easily

- Bad Boy Ml who's cold and doesnt care/ goes through trauma/ falls for Fl/ leader of the class

- Nice and funny plot but also have moments where serious topics are spoken about (Although Kodocha has some fillers)

- Obvious Second Male Lead (WHO I SO DESPERATELY LOVE)

watch them both or im sending kangaroos to your way

I will admit, Gakuen alice and Kodomo no Omocha (or vice versa) did NOT seem similar to me at all. The plot of Gakuen Alice is nothing like Kodomo no Omocha, and the plot of Kodomo no Omocha is nothing like Gakuen Alice. Don't let this make you hesitant to watch either, though. The relationship between the two characters in both animes are very similar. Ofcourse, Gakuen Alice is not in the slighest as long as Kodomo no Omocha is, but you should still really give this anime a try if you like the relationship between the characters.

Great Teacher Onizuka

Great Teacher Onizuka

With a history of leading a motorcycle gang and getting bad grades in school, why would 22 year old Onizuka ever want to become a teacher? Is it to educate young minds or spread the joy of education? Sure, if it involves being able to look up high school girls' skirts! Watch as this would-be educator uses his own life lessons and unconstituted methods as a means to control a delinquent class of students -- students who certainly aren't as happy to have him as a teacher as he is happy to be teaching...

Kodocha and GTO are both really funny school kids genre animes. While I think Sana-chan may have been a funnier and spunkier (is that a word? =p) main character than Onizuka, Onizuka is an awesome teacher. Really, who wouldn't want him as their homeroom teacher? =)

VRDave VRDave says...

Kodocha is a very funny show. If you liked the humor in GTO, you will probably like the humor in this. It's also school oriented and has themes of odd relationships.

SlinkyABC SlinkyABC says...

Both Great Teacher Onizuka and Kodomo no Omocha primarily take place in a school setting. While many anime series also take place in school settings, these two stand out in my mind because they're very different from the rest, though for different reasons. Both series have a heavy comedic influence while simultaneously having serious overtones that become more prominent as the series progresses. You won't find much similarity between Sana and Eikichi, and the plots of the two series aren't similar either, but there is enough in common for me to reverse recommend them.

If you can appreciate the intense story surrounded by a high dosage of comedy in one series, you might find yourself drawn to the other one.

"Kodocha" and "Marmalade Boy" are extremely similar. Both deal with a couple and the troubles they face in their relationship. Not to mention the characters look very alike and the art style is similar. The main difference is that Kodocha is more fast-paced and hyper.

Bloncheta Bloncheta says...

Kodomo no Omocha is very similar with Marmalade Boy. Sana looks a lot like Miki and she always expresses her emotions like her. Yuu doesn't show his emotions very well just like Hayama. Kodomo no Omocha is more Comedy than Romance but i'm sure you wil love it!

IchigoCake97 IchigoCake97 says...

There is more depth than other anime today. The writers of these stories leave enough blanks and enough to unravel in future episodes while at the same time solving one problem at a time. You can feel the rising climax as characters encounter humane obstacles. I feel like in both animes the main characters often find themselves making difficult decisions and sometimes they have to grow up a little faster. There is a lot of character development in both, and you can notice how they become more mature than how it began. It can be stressful sometimes when the main characters are not with whom they're meant to be, but that just the drama of it which makes it intriguing.

If you want to watch another entertaining, romantic and well done anime, I recommend you to watch Kodocha.

If hyperactive, spoilt females are your cup of tea, then I think you may just enjoy both of these shows. Although Komocha tackles some slightly more adult topics, GALS is similar in that childhood romance is one of the main plot lines.

As I pointed out in my GALS review, it seems that Komocha is the younger sister of this more grown up and teenage show.

Kodocha and Full Moon are cute, romantic stories about one girl chasing her dreams.  Both contain elements of stardom, unrequited love, and melodrama.  Most importantly, each show explores the idea of very young (we're talking elementary school) girls in love.   Kodocha's Sana and Full Moon's Mitsuki are very strong protagonists, because they are easily likable: both are hardworking, passionate, and neither girl lets fame go to her head.

KnO and FMoS are both packed with comedy, romance, and drama - but they will also entertain you and astonish you on many different levels. You won't forget them because they leave a mark on your memory, due to their unusual story twists and perfect conclusions.

ggoodd ggoodd says...

They both start as a really upbeat and old anime style with a happy-go-lucky character who loves the entertainment business and just wants to do well and be happy. They also both get pretty dark and mature at many points. Full Moon deals with illness and death as well as relationship problems, trust, and familial issues as the girl in this is also raised by her grandmother because her parents aren't around. While they both can make you cry, Full Moon WILL make you cry. It will throw some really depressing information at you when you least expect it and it will sadly make so much sense that you will cry. It's an amazing anime and keeps the same tones as Kodacha. I highly recommend it.

Excel Saga

Excel Saga

F City, F Prefecture: the battleground where good and evil have finally chosen to decide once and for all who will rule the world…or at least that's the general idea! Neither side seems up for the task, as surviving the brutality of everyday life is enough of a chore. On the side of evil is the organization of Across, its only member the loudmouthed and abrasive Excel who struggles just to put food in her stomach; on the side of good, three disenfranchised, unemployed bachelors whose only pursuit in life is romance. Add in alien invasions, jungle warfare, and Mexican immigrant laborers to Japan, and this war doesn't seem likely to be ending soon!

Kodocha and Excel are both anime on crystal meth, featuring tons of ultra-fast talking, bizzare madcap action and plenty of exaggerated manga facial expressions. Excel is a big deliberate parody of anime, and Kodocha is just... Kodocha. Those liking their anime comedies with a side of extra craziness should watch both.

TheHermit TheHermit says...

It's hard not to notice the similarities between the two heroines: rambunctious, motor-mouthed balls of energy that keep everyone else on their back heels. Both shows have a similarly bizarre sense of humor and manic pace, though Kodocha eventually branches out to drama while Excel Saga is happy to remain an amped-up crack-fest throughout.

Series are both located in and around school. (Kare Kano = High school; Kodomo no Omocha = Junior High). Both series have alot of random humor. Though aside from this humor, there is plot as well. In Kodomo no Omocha it's a heavy drama story, while in Kare Kano it's a deep romance story.

Colino Colino says...

Both melanchonic and psycology driven romance stories. The series main protagonists (Yukino and Sana) are very different but both tend to be the main comic relief in their own series.

While Kare Kano might result in being too deep for your average Kodomo no Omocha fan, it might be itneresting enough to keep you through the short 26 episode life span.

Much of the spirited banter between the male and female leads of Lovely Complex and Kodomo no Omocha carries a similar tone. It's part jab, part caress, and all charm. The whole time I was watching Lovely Complex all I could think was that the two main characters, Risa and Otani are just what Sana and Akito would be like when they're in high school.
