Both Kino's Journey and Seraphim Call are about exploring the human condition while gently messing with the viewer's perceptions. Kino's Journey tends to be more predictable because the main character and the way the story is told never changes. With Seraphim Call, every episode has a new main character and the story is told in a different way.

Both are incredibly well produced. Intelligent, beautiful, dealing with the deepest emotions of humans. Fantastic sound, animation, and probably the most compelling storylines ever. Highly recommended.

Although the two series have a very different plot, the basic storytelling styles of Kino's Journey and El Cazador de la Bruja are remarkably similar, with episodic tales, each illustrating or allegorizing some aspect of the human condition. In this way, the stories of both anime describe journeys that are as much an inward odyssey as an outward voyage.

Black Lagoon

Black Lagoon

Rokuro Okajima is a small-time salaryman who is carrying documents for his company, when the ship he's traveling on is attacked by pirates. Kidnapped, he discovers to his dismay that his employers' main concern is to ensure the documents don't get into the wrong hands, even if it means sending the carrier to the bottom of the sea. Now, with his former life ruined and his kidnappers seeming comparatively friendly, "Rock" decides to join their merry band of mercenaries, and sets out with a new career to the shadier corners of the South China Sea.

Kino's Journey and Black Lagoon, when first compared, seem completely opposite. Kino's Journey is a quiet anime that touches the heart and gives people a feeling of connection to the main character. Black Lagoon is more a bullets and blood anime, but as you watch it more, you will realize that it touches on many subjects. In both, there are moments when your connection to the character makes you feel their sadness, happiness, and many other emotions. Kino's Journey is more a lighter look at life, while Black Lagoon is a gut wrenching look at corruption, love, and how the past can affect your life. I definitely recommend both.

Kino's Journey and Angel's Egg have dark themes but are also quite peaceful. Both principal characters are a girl who is traveling and seeing beautiful landscapes. Both anime are philosophical and make you think; they are so well done and far from typical anime that if you liked one, I'm sure that you will like the other!

Both of these titles deal a lot with traveling to strange lands and meeting a variety of different people. Kino travels a lot for the sake of traveling; and while Dragon Ball has more action, in this movie there is an emphasis on dragon ball hunting, and to do this Goku travels just like Kino.

Shinigami no Ballad and Kino's Journey feature unique concepts and focus on telling small stories with big meanings. Both shows are episodic and there is a good variety in the themes and pacing of the episodes. Both are very humbling, moving at their own pace which is at times slow and quiet and at others active and sometimes comedic or even violent (moreso in Kino's case.) Either show doesn't try to flaunt its morals, but they are certainly there and are liable to make you think.

Carried By The Wind: Tsukikage Ran

Carried By The Wind: Tsukikage Ran

Lady Ran is a self-described 'beautiful drifter': a samurai who travels Japan on a whim, always searching for good sake. Together with her good-hearted but somewhat dense sidekick Meow (master of the Iron Cat Fist style), they stumble into situations where they (usually unwillingly) confront bandits, corrupt officials and deceitful cults. But there's one enemy they can never defeat with their amazing sword and martial arts skills: their perpetual poverty!

Kino's Journey and Caried By The Wind: Tsukikage Ran are two wonderful 13-episode series about travellers with no destination. Each episode has its own story and the series' end with the main character, accompanied by a friend, choosing a path and ready for their next big adventure.

Kino's Journey has many of the same themes and concepts that are present in Monster (the horror and unfairness of the world, the corruptibility of human beings), but in a slightly lighter, more optimistic tone. Kino's Journey will help you start thinking critically of the world around you: once you're ready, Monster will show you just how deep the rabbit hole goes.

Though "Kino's Journey" is a short, episodic series and "Fullmetal Alchemist" is a epic drama, the themes of and impulses behind the two are strikingly similar. How and why people choose to live in their respective worlds and how they interact with one another based on wildly variant values are explored through the journeys of adolescent protagonists trying to make sense of it all. In both shows, the travelers (who initially don't want to get involved in local business) visit several unusual towns with fundamentally flawed and/or amusing gov'ts, traditions, values, etc. only to heavily affect and/or be affected by the town. Both beautiful, funny, and sad (or heart-wrenching), FMA and Kino's journey explore dark themes through thoughtful storytelling, compelling characters, and great animation. In many ways, Kino's Journey is FMA-lite; likewise, FMA could be a much more complex , tragic, Kino's Journey.
