A little connection here. In both series good guys chase after bad guys in some space orientated setting.

Read or Die doesn't take itself too seriously at times, but then it throws a... what do they call them...oh, right, "plot" at the viewer. Kiddy Grade is the same way, an action/drama anime disguised as a campy, fanservice-loaded, piece of sci-fi.

Though short and minimal, VA attempts at the same bipolar style of extreme cheesiness at it's beginning leading to serious and deep closure by it's end

both are soap opera's. Though while in Kiddy Grade the drama is more central, Blue Gender has a deep romance story. I got the feeling there was somehow more Character Development in Blue Gender, at cost of humor. Kiddy Grade has more humor and some fanservice, at the cost of really deep character development.
