Both Kemonozume and Mind Game share the same director, a nearly identical visual style, a dynamic experimental approach to animation, and a wild, heart-thumping soundtrack

Both Mind Game and Kemonozume share Studio 4C's bizarre, non-traditional animation style. Some people (including myself) will applaud the visuals of these two works as visionary and creative, while others will simply think they're ugly and pointless. At any rate, if you enjoyed one anime's animation, you should certainly enjoy the other's.

yuujin yuujin says...

If you watch anime for the art, these two are really alike: they have the same character designs, sketchy and dynamic forms, and great backgrounds. Each can be seen as a piece of art that can be hung on a wall. But personally I think Mind Game is more fun to watch because it's only movie length, not a 13 episode TV series. It also doesn't contain as much dialogue. Although, if you prefer scarier anime with beasts, hunters, passion and tension, you'd prefer the 13 episodes of Kemonozume.

bshegg bshegg says...

Both Kemonozume and Mind Game  reflect Masaaki Yuasa's unique, unconventional style of animation as well as being rich in social imagery with intellectually complex themes.

Omurqi Omurqi says...

What makes both Mind Game and Kemonozume to what they are, is the way they are drawn and animated. Both shows are fairly abstract and strange, but don't distort the storyline because of this (like it is the case with some other abstract anime, in which the storyline becomes a blur). Looking for an engaging, interesting story combined with a unique way of drawing, an underlying message and brilliant use of colors and animation, don't miss out on this one!

A bizarre mix of dark humor, sexual themes and graphic monstrosity in both of these anime. The difference is Kemonozume is longer & superior in all aspects.

Nicknames Nicknames says...

Both shows have a similar concept and feature people who turn into monsters when they are errr… turned on. Even if the artsyle is vastly different between each other I think fans of one will definitely appreciate the other.

So for the thing about the similarities to Kemlnozuke and Call Me Tonight is probably have the same antics of a person turns into either Aliens or Monsters is alot very familiar in general.

axondendrite axondendrite says...

similar vibes, although kemonozume's art style is more experimental and impressionistic, whereas call me tonight is more run of the mill retro ova. call me tonight is a lot more lewd.

Both Kemonozume and Kaiba are incredibly original.

Both shows have an abstract and particular animation. The music is somewhat experimental in both shows.

The characters in both are diversified, complex and they take place in a unique and surreal world. Their personnalities are unstable and strange.

The plot is complex and you'll probably say after each episode: "What just happened...?" The story in both is about modified beings; in Kemonozume, some humans are transformed into flesh eaters and in Kaiba, memories are transfered from a body to another body.

There is some humour as well in both animes.

For conclusion, if you like avant-garde and surreal animes, be sure to watch both these fantastic animes !

Both series are directed by the same person, and therefor have a similar off-beat style that will appeal to non-mainstream viewers.

KiraRin KiraRin says...

From the offbeat artistic styles, to the occasionally shocking viewing of violence and sex, these two shows are peas in a pod.

But at the heart of it all lies an amazing story, telling of the difficult love between two people, trying to be together as those around them try to prise them apart.

I would recommend Kaiba and Kemonozume to a more mature viewer who has patience and understanding. The main thread of the story is not abundantly clear until the story starts to draw to a close. But if you enjoyed one, you're sure to love the other.

Breathtakingly different visuals will be the first thing to strike you about both Kemonozume and Hakaba. This will turn off a lot of viewers, but the real beauty comes in the unforgettable and strangely addictive storylines.

Although Hakaba is mainly episodic, compared to the Romeo and Juliet storyline of Kemonozume, the fantasy aspect of each compliments the other perfectly. I highly recommend both of these shows as a must see. The small group that loves one will certainly enjoy the other.

Both of these anime are directed by Masaaki Yuasa and feature man eating monsters that take the shape of humans. They also both deal with characters who are monsters but still retain their human hearts and must fight against their instincts. I think it's quite likely that Kemonozume was heavily inspired by the original Devilman manga in the first place which makes it even more interesting to see Yuasa now making an actual Devilman adaptation. I definitely recommend both shows (as well as the original Devilman manga) and think anyone who liked one would also enjoy the other.

mrbeertje mrbeertje says...

Both deal with monsters in human form, who prey upon normal humans and they struggle with this. The villains of both shows have the same goal and are actively making more monsters. Also, both shows have a fairly unique artstyle.

Meanwhile, in a village, the young Raki has been banished; his only crime was losing his family to the yoma. Raki is drawn to a Claymore named Clare, and together their journey begins. While Clare fights the yoma plaguing the land, can Raki help her in her struggle to retain her humanity?

Just like in Kemonozume, Claymore's main faction is a secret organization with a main goal of ridding the world from the Yoma: monsters that eat human innards and can change into any human form to avoid detection. However, the story is set in a world based out of the middle ages, and has a lot of gore and blood. If you like a story involving the mystery behind a secret organization and don't mind blood and guts, then Claymore is for you.

FLCL

FLCL

Naota Nanbada is a boring young boy who leads a boring life in a boring town. His older brother has left for America, and the closest he comes to any excitement is when his deadbeat dad has too much sake. But things change one day when a bizarre girl zooms up to him on a scooter and smacks him in the face with her guitar. What's more, once Naoto returns home he discovers that this strange woman has arrived ahead of him and moved in! Not only does she constantly engage in perverted activities with Naota's father and flirt with the young man himself, but she also claims to be an alien who is searching for the ‘Pirate King.' Now, Naota must learn to live with this new intruder, deal with an odd government agent who sports exceptionally large eyebrows and the mysterious Medical Mechanica, and come to terms with the fact that there are a variety of robots and weapons emerging out of his head - amongst other things. Perhaps boring wasn't so bad after all...

This recommendation is mainly because Kemonozume's romantic premise is based on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. While Kemonozume is modern, Japanese, and disturbingly graphic, Romeo x Juliet is traditional and closer to Shakespeare's original.

Akira

Akira

Following the disaster wrought upon the world by a mysterious being called ‘Akira’, Neo Tokyo is now in social and economic turmoil. In such a decaying city, feisty Kaneda and his shy friend Tetsuo survive by running around in a biker gang, chasing local rivals and generally evading the police. Everything changes, however, when Tetsuo crashes into a strange-looking boy during a bike chase and the military ends up taking him away. When he eventually returns to his friends, he’s no longer the same weak little boy they always knew – in fact, a military experiment has turned him into something beyond human imagination. While the military is intent on reclaiming its specimen at any cost, Tetsuo is sick of being bullied around and is about to show everyone, including his friend Kaneda, exactly who is boss.

There is very little romantic tension between the  characters in Akira, however the amount of blood, guts and gore would be similar to Kemonozume. If you can still watch Kemonozume to the very last episode without passing out midway or having nightmares, then you would be able to watch Akira too.

Bleach

Bleach

Fifteen-year-old Ichigo Kurosaki is a typical teen with fighting skills, two caring sisters and a special trait: he can see ghosts. So you like samurai with long swords who hunt unidentified beasts? Then both of these anime have the same theme: an old clan of samurai (or in Bleach, shinigami) hunts scary evil beasts, but unfortunately some of the good characters manage to fall in love with one of the beasts (like the main couple in Kemonozume or Quicy's love for the vampire lady). If you are not annoyed by a lot of dialogue in Kemonozume, and if you don't miss jokes which are most common thing in Bleach, then you should be drawn into these two anime.
