The outcast learned years ago that social obligations only lead to pain, and has carefully guarded her heart to keep from getting hurt. However, the girl can’t stay withdrawn forever, especially after attracting the attention of the handsome Yamato, who finds her caustic personality interesting and strives to date her after she roundhouse kicks him down the stairs. But even the most earnest of romances can be crippled by jealousy and insecurity, and this pair has plenty of both. Can their feelings for each other overcome their own emotional weaknesses, or will this love perish before it even begins?

The girl and guy in these titles start off not liking each other but things can change. In both titles the guy is popular and top of the class. In kare kano the girl is more his equal in academics, in Suki-tte name yo the girl is more considered a lower class in highschool rankings but she holds her own well.

If you enjoyed one, you would probably like the other

Suzuka

Suzuka

Yamato Akitsuki has recently moved to Tokyo, and in order to maintain his less than wealthy lifestyle, he currently works at his aunt's bathhouse. While walking by the school one evening he sees a girl by the name of Suzuka practicing the high jump, and is instantly in love. Even better is the realization that Suzuka lives next door! Determined to prove himself worthy of her affections, Yamato decides to join the school's track team and show her what he’s got, but things won’t be so easy; for Suzuka has a love interest of her own, and it isn’t Yamato...

There are plenty of romantic comedies out there, and even with these two there are differences: Kare Kano is more wacky and random than Suzuka, and in Suzuka there is more comedy provided by the romance. The reason why I linked these is because despite their romance and comedy, both add a few (not all the time) rather realistic and serious events into the storyline.

Judging only based on the first episode, Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun gave me a feeling very much similar to that of Kare Kano: Just like Kare Kano, TnK also has an extremely hard-working and ambitious female protagonist who hates the male protagonist for his good grades first, but -seems to be soon- falling in love with him along the way...

Toradora!

Toradora!

Ryuuji Takasu has an eventful life: his classmates think he's a delinquent due to his 'killer' eyes; his crush Minori seems ever out of reach; and he’s just had an unfortunate encounter with 'palm-sized Taiga' – a feisty and dainty wench in his class. With different cleaning habits and tempers, the two clash like night and day; that is, except for the fact that Taiga and Ryuuji have crushes on the other's good friend! With school rumors abounding, the duo must now work together to play matchmaker for each other. Who will end up with their true love?

Kare Kano is similar to Toradora in many ways. Both series feature a girl and guy who have people see them a certain way, both take place in High School, and both have romance and comedy. Some aspects of the storylines are different but over all very similar

Animes like these are rare. With their ordinary High School setting, slow pace and the emphasis and effort made towards a realistic portrayal of human emotions and relations.
