After witnessing one of the deaths for herself, Shiki begins to realize that a strange connection exists between each of the girls, and predicts a total of eight will die. Kazuna is a young man with a fairly normal life. He attends high school, lives with his surrogate family, and models for his somber love-interest Yaegashi's paintings. But recently, he has suffered several crippling attacks at the sight of blood -- attacks which leave him incapacitated and out of control. Kazuna must now reunite with his sister who he has not seen in years, and discover the truth behind his family name and vampiric genes, before his bloodthirsty desires destroy himself, or others close to him.
Although both Hitsuji and Kara no Kyoukai are supernatural tales of vampires and monsters, this is definitely not the main focus of the show. Instead, the story develops by looking at the lives of the people affected by the creepy happenings.
Both are reasonably slow paced and will not appeal to people expecting something akin to Hellsing. However, I think if you enjoy one, you will enjoy the other.

both Kara no Kyoukai and Jigoku Shoujo are intense horor, supernatural animes which feature female protagonist possessing superpowers and both of them share the same concept, of judging people who comminted sins and then punishing them (better developed in Jigoku Shoujo than Kara no Kyoukai). If you enjoyed the extreme horror from Kara no Kyoukai then for sure you will enjoy the psychological impacts from Jigoku Shoujo and vice-versa.

Both series have amazing music by Yuki Kajiura. They also both have the same feel to them, and personally, Madlax reminds me of Shiki. If you like one, you will probably like the other!
