Both Kanon and Air involve the struggles of a boy and his relationships with those around him. Both main characters are shrouded in mystery throughout the anime, but they attempt to help the girls they come in contact with, even though in some way they are connected to them. Sadness, pain, and joy are present in almost every episode of both; if you enjoyed Kanon you will surely enjoy Air.
The stories are a lot alike. Air has a mysterious side to it, and the characters just want to be happy and be with someone - similar to Kanon!

Air and Kanon quickly broke their way into my heart with beautiful characters and a soul wrenching story. Both shows are based on a past love, long forgotten, and the slow realisation that what is deepest in the heart is right in front of them.
Two of the saddest and most beautiful series I think I have so far watched.
The breath taking art work and beautiful music in the Air series is matched in the Kanon series. These two short series will both draw you in and bring you to tears. They are both heart breaking stories of friendship, love and losing them. Grab a box of tissues and enjoy both of these amazing series.
There he is. New in town, minding his own business... and then he meets her. And suddenly, he has someone to take care of. Mystery, melancholy, interesting plot, well-developed characters and more importantly, heart moving love story... if this is what you've enjoyed the most, then you should probably try recommenden show as well.
Both are by the same studio, both are based on visual novels, and both are absolutely fantastic.
The characters in each have their own intricate backgrounds and personalities, and both have the ability to make you cry.
Kanon and Air have a great story and development, it's even possible to cry. Might change your way of life.
Tomoya Okazaki is a third-year high school student who is generally bored with life and doesn't take his studies, future, or anything else seriously. One day, however, he meets a lonely-looking girl in the school courtyard, Nagisa Furukawa. She explains to him the source of her loneliness: she had missed a lot of the previous school year and thus is repeating her third year; everybody that she knew has already graduated, and she is lonely. Tomoya is rather indifferent at first, but decides that he has nothing better to do and spends increasingly more time helping Nagisa restore the school drama club. As his relationship with Nagisa grows, Tomoya begins to open up to various other people around the school as well...
If you like Clannad, you'll surely like Kanon. Both series involve the main guy with a large group of girl friends. Not quite a harem anime because the guy is only really interested in one girl romantically. Both series of the same animation studio producing them, high production values, are school slice of life stories, a single character that excels at fighting, extreme amounts of comedy, some sad dramatic parts, crisp and interesting character designs, and a touch of the supernatural. Clannad and Kanon are entertaining whirlwinds of excitement and neither is to be missed.
Both Clannad and Kanon are full of perfect examples of daily life in Japan with their own hint of imagination that touches the heart of all who love life, especially if you are familiar with life in Japan.
Both Clannad and Kanon were created by Key and boast similar visual styles. Also, they both have a central plot that diffuses throughout the entire anime. They focus on a youth male who has various relationships with the women around him.
Both involve some sort of romance and then after everyone is happy. something sad happens to make the happiness go away. If you like drama and sad animes you would love both shows. The artwork is very similar as well because i believe there by the same company. In any case they are both really good and i highly recommend them both.

Kanon and Rumbling Hearts involve how everything changes concerning love and relationships for the characters in the series. Both are very dramatic anime with a mature outlook on life, although Kanon has a more fanciful approach to it.

In everyday high-school life, he is accompanied by his adopted sister, Nemu, and an eclectic group of friends including a j-pop idol-in-the-making and a girl they knew from their childhood. Promises, and magic, and love -- Junnichi seems to dream about every girl he knows, but which girl dreams of him...?
I was reminded of Kanon when I watching Da Capo, for some reason, I viewed each character as a representative of some animal in both animes. In that, each character had a personality of some animal such as Nemu (Da Capo) reminded me of a cat; Sakura, a bunny; Mai (Kanon), a wolf; and Sayuri, a hamster. An evident connection though, is that the cast of characters follow similar personalities, and both anime have a supernatural element. Things get quite dramatic later on when you don't suspect it. Kanon dwelled deep into characters and gave quite an impression with its story at the end. Da Capo has beautiful colours and character design.
Hatsune-Jima, a city once known for their everlasting Cherry Blossom Tree, is devastated after the tree’s destruction. In this city lives Junichi, a local Hatsune-Jime student who is struggling through school after Nemu left him to attend university. Things change for Junichi on one stormy night when a mysterious girl named Aisia arrives at his doorstep, looking for a master magician who can teach her the trade. As Aisia uncovers more about the past of Hatsune-Jima, will the past tragedy repeat itself once more?
This is a difficult recommendation to write without spilling into spoiler land, but the fact is that both Kanon, and Da Capo Second Season deal with loss and acceptance in very similar ways, except in reverse chronological order. Both series have very blatant plot devices and a very strong undercurrent of romance. The reason I would recommend De Capo second Season over De Capo in relation to Kanon is that the characters in De Capo Second Season are less whimsical and flighty, and therefore carry a deeper emotional charge which is much closer to Kanon's out of the box shrink-wrapped with tears goodness.
There is the same type of feel to each of the characters in Kanon and Da Capo and each involve a high school setting. The series goes through how the characters learn and develop from each other and basically just being able to mature into a better person.
