Hikaru no Go

Hikaru no Go

While examining an old Go board in his grandfather's basement, twelve-year-old Shindo Hikaru is possessed by the restless spirit of Sai, an ancient Go master who has waited for over one thousand years to play the Hand of God: the perfect move. Sai convinces Hikaru to act as a vessel for making his moves, but it is soon clear that Hikaru also enjoys Go and wants to play his own games. Moreover, the rules of Go have changed since Sai's time, and Go players from all over the world are now much stronger, having had the benefit of hundreds of years of evolution and experimentation by the masters before them. Can this unlikely pair form a successful partnership and rise to the top of Japan's Go community, and can Sai finally play the Hand of God and find some peace?

There is a same structure in both series: getting to the top, starting from the lowest skill level possible. While Kaleido Star however is more focussed on glamour, Hikaru no Go is mainly focussed on the game itself. The characters of Kaleido Star are however alot deeper than the ones in Hikaru no Go and there is more humor in Kaleido Star. if you'd rather look at boardgames than at acrobatics and if yo uare more fond of historical settings, check out Hikaru no Go. If you are however looking for something with more action than Hikaru no Go and deeper characters, check out Kaleido Star

If you enjoy watching a main character develop and grow before your very own eyes like Sora in Kaleido Star, I have a feeling that you'd also be attracted to Hikaru from Hikaru no Go. Both anime have light humour and a supernatural companion (Sai in Hikaru no Go, and Fool Kaleido Star). Hikaru no Go has more intense battles and more drama. I'm confident that you'll enjoy Hikaru no Go if you enjoyed watching Sora develop.

In both shows you see the struggle of two girls trying to succed. They both start off with the left and often they end up being hated by the rest. Nothing lets them down and they as they try to exel at what they do, proving to everyone that there is more to them then meets the eye. Even though one is about a circus performer and the other about an actress, both shows are about searching for stardom

Both of these animes feature prominent female characters, and quick character development both on the part of story telling and on the part of the character growing into themselves as part of the story.

Kaleido Star and Angelic Layer have girl power! You might find meaning in either of these if you are a 12 year old girl. They have a very light plot and light angst, and are really good for a laugh on a Saturday afternoon when you have nothing to do!

If you love to see the fight of the underdog, even though you know good will prevail in the end then these two shows are perfect for you. Not completely family friendly, there are the occasional naughty jokes that will suit them to teens and older, however both Kaleido and Battle Athletes are shows that can be enjoyed by a wide audience.

Clannad

Clannad

Tomoya Okazaki is a third-year high school student who is generally bored with life and doesn't take his studies, future, or anything else seriously. One day, however, he meets a lonely-looking girl in the school courtyard, Nagisa Furukawa. She explains to him the source of her loneliness: she had missed a lot of the previous school year and thus is repeating her third year; everybody that she knew has already graduated, and she is lonely. Tomoya is rather indifferent at first, but decides that he has nothing better to do and spends increasingly more time helping Nagisa restore the school drama club. As his relationship with Nagisa grows, Tomoya begins to open up to various other people around the school as well...

So one thing I found about both of these anime are that they were rather inspirational to me. In Clanand, Tomoya pulls his life together and repairs his relationship with his dad. The other members of the cast also each find a way past their respective problems to happiness and success. In Kaleido Star, once again, each character is faced with their respective troubles that they must face and overcome. Both of these anime happen to be my two favorites of all time and they each do an incredible job with character development. They are both a true inspiration to me.
