On the surface the two anime don't seem like they have a lot in common but the thing that links them are the characters. If you enjoyed the characters from ether of these anime you'll love the other.
Awayuki Himeno is a normal schoolgirl who is in a bind: her father’s remarriage yielded two new cruel stepsisters, and to top it off, she meets seven men who call themselves Liefe Knights. They reveal to her that she's a Pretear, someone who can lend powers to them when their powers aren’t enough to defeat the evil creatures called mayouchuu. Now, she has to fight the ambitious Fenrir, whose only purpose is to leech the life force from all living beings. Can Himeno save the world and find a way to deal with her growing feelings for one of the Liefe Knights?
Both anime have a young girl striving to get along in a new life. The young girls struggle with new families, whether adopted or circus. In addition, the animation styles are similar; both are very bright and colorful with airy themes.
It is the year 2356 AD, 189 years after a shockwave from a distant supernova decimated the Earth. Since that fateful day, humanity has begun training for a final mission to protect the planet from the inevitable oncoming 2nd shockwave - a mission whose failure means the annihilation of mankind. While these series have little in common when it comes to theme, genre, plot or character sub-types; they are very similar in tone. Both Stellvia and Kaleido Star are very hopeful shows with a complementary amount of realistic drama and a moderate dose of comedic relief.
Without being too sappy or too cute, these shows are near opposites to many of the darker and more twisted shows out there. If you are looking for something epic and uplifting and you liked one of these shows, you will surely like the other.
