With focus on fighting and superhuman martial arts, both of these titles should satisfy the same target group. The stories are simple and easy to digest, and provide ample opportunity for furious combat.

A lot of Araki's (character designer of Hokuto no Ken) style is influenced by Buronsan's art designs, and is apparent in the way the action is pulled off. Both characters in Jojo and Hokuto no Ken are highly muscular and yet have great speed, agility, and flexibility.

The action is somewhat similar to how martial arts are used by utilizing pressure points, manipulation and throwing 100 violent punches within tenths of seconds.

Both anime involve an adventure where the characters go across the world to stop their enemies, gain new friends, and learn new techniques. This kind of story is a great way to develop characters and their interactions, which contributes to the overall progression of the story. If you liked one, try the other.

A world where even close friends can betray you for power, a lesson that Ken, the Fist of The North Star, learns when he is nearly killed by his closest friend and left for dead. He's not an easy man to get rid of, and he returns - very angry.

Araki, author of Jojo, was grealty influenced by Buronson's syle.

the character design are similar... and the violence too :P

They also have similar stories that take the main character around the world to meet new enemies and new friends, to become more powerful and, finally, to defeat the final boss.

Raspberries Raspberries says...

Though worlds apart in story and character development, both anime exude more manliness than Dolph Lundgren smoking a cigar while riding a motorcycle through a burning building. Both shows have numerous instances where your jaw just drops to the floor, and you find yourself reaching for the remote to watch that scene again. You'll never look at a Canteen or a Pointer Finger the same way again.

A classic fighting series where the characters use what they call Alters which are basically the same as a Stand, where they represent the fighter using them. Very good action and good plot.

Both of these anime are based on fighting games of the same name, and as such are very similar in nature. The plots might seem rather superficial to those who don't have prior knowledge of the respective games, but the radical martial arts in each title will definitely satisfy the fans.

Both of these series are based on people with the ability to use supernatural powers. Shaman king has users that can see and use spirits natural fighting abilities and physical forms; which is just like Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventures. Even though Jo Jo was created first, Shaman king further developes this unique ability idea into a story with both action and comedy.
