Like Jin-Roh, Voices of a Distant Star is another great depressing story. However, it's not as violent and is not set in space, but it is still a very sad and brooding anime.

neilworms neilworms says...

Both films are dark realistic political thrillers involving Mamoru Oshii in the production staff. Like Jin Roh, Patlabor 2 is realistic science fiction that has a heavy dose of political intrigue and social commentary. Both make explicit refrences to ideologies of 1970s student protest groups who rallied against the American-Japanese Security treaty (ANPO). Also both feature heavy machinery and weponry as a part of the setting with Jin Roh's CAPO troop armor and the Labors (Giant Robots) in Patlabor. In short both shows have similar themes and similar settings.

So you like heavy stories for a movie? Start up with Ghost in the Shell, both movies are quite heavy on the plot, just like Jin-Roh

Jin-Roh might be a bit better than Last Order on every aspect; this is only due to the movie lasting longer than the 20 minutes Last Order offers. Both Jin-Roh and Last Order have a similar feeling to them. The dark atmosphere that is brought about while the main characters are hunted down is nearly completely alike.

Ran Ran says...

Jin Roh and Gunslinger Girl are very similar in the way they deal with the use of little girls in battle. Both focus on the kids' views of their lives and their relationships with one special adult close to them. If you liked one, the other will suit you too.
