17 year old Ooizumi Naoto finds himself on set as the “making of” cameraman for a big budget TV production named Cosmopolitan Prayers. He is in heaven these days since his crush, Magami Natsumi, has been chosen for the lead heroine. But as he tries to find ways to advance their relationship, the other girls seem to also have set their sights on him with not-so-coy looks, full-body knockdowns and skirt flipping. Is he in heaven or hell? With all the chaos surrounding him, the biggest problem isn’t the incessant teasing, but whether or not the girls find out his big secret!
A Japanese high school can be a strange place – or so it’s been told. However, as critical thinking is not the strong point of our freshman heroine Eriko, even the most outrageous stories are likely to come true. Going through the motions of high school life with a flair and panache that can only be gawked at, Eriko and her old and new friends set a new (low) standard for the typical coming of age drama. Cry with them as they fight adversity and learn the importance of trust and friendship in this cruel, cruel world; laugh with them during the incomparable happiness of the seemingly never-ending springtime of youth; and finally, laugh AT them, when they constantly manage to show their panties in public!
Guided by a star only they can see, a group of maidens known as HiMEs have begun to gather at Fuuka Academy. These young women have been endowed with dangerous supernatural powers that they can use to their heart's content, but there's a price: to wield them, they must put their most important thing on the line. Now, in the midst of school work and friendships, they find themselves caught in the midst of strange conspiracies seemingly related to the terrifying monsters that attack them. Is the power of the HiMEs strong enough to save themselves and the ones they love?
I’s Pure and My-Hime start off with a high dramatic feeling. This feeling continues in each with relationship problems of the high school students who make up the main characters. The main characters seem to be in a high level of stress for most of the series trying to solve the problems and hand and realize how to deal with them.
Lovely Complex is a story of a boy and a girl. The girl, Koizumi Risa, is much taller than the average Japanese girl; and the boy, Atsushi Otani, is much shorter than the average Japanese boy. Due to their immense difference in size and constant bickering with each other, the duo is unwillingly the school’s comic relief. As Risa and Otani continue to provide endless laughter for the masses, their friendship develops; and with that, so does Risa’s feelings for Otani...
Aside from the fact that it takes ages for the relationship between the main characters to blossom in both anime, Lovely Complex and I''s Pure are rather different. Well, both are romance shows, but aimed at different audience. Still, if you think that you have enough of I''s Pure styled romance shows, Lovely Complex might be an interesting alternative. I don't have to hide the fact that its a shojou, but why not give it a try. While characters have many problems, just like in I''S, there is plenty of comical relief in Lovely Complex and its actually fun to watch (after few episodes).
Whisper of the Heart is a touching Ghibli slice-of-life story, about a young girl named Shizuku. While riding the train, she notices a fat cat riding alongside her. Following the cat, she finds a shop where she is told an enchanting story of a gold statue named "The Baron". WotH follows Shizuku in her struggles to grow, and her budding love with the shopkeeper's son.
I think I''s Pure and Whisper of the Heart have a lot in common. Even if they don't have the same plot or somewhat you could call a real story connection, they both take on the love, mostly the single sided love. In both series we can find a very interesting mixup too, rejection, unsecurity and love.
