Despite Candidate for Goddess being sci-fi and Hunter X Hunter being a more fantastical setting, I can't help but feel as if there are certain similarities. Zero reminds me of Gon, the instructer reminds me of Leorio, and Hiead reminds me of Killua. Finally, to a degree, the Candidate training reminds me of the Hunter training.
Mao is an aspiring young chef trying to live up to the legacy left by his mother - a nationally-recognized, culinary genius. In addition to meeting a wide range of personalities with varying gourmet skills, Mao must use every skill his mother left him to become a legendary chef in his own right.
Overlooking the major plot differences, there is a lot these shows have in common. Gon and Mao both have a sort of naiive nature that draws people to them and they never back down from fighting the good fight. They build loyal friends this way and never stop trying to improve themselves. If you liked one of these shows- check the other out.
