Oblivion Island isn't nearly as stunning, visually, as Welcome to the Space Show, but both are endearing and spectacular trips into a fantasy world that is detailed and incredible. Please check out one if you liked the other.
Welcome to THE SPACE SHOW and Oblivion Island feature children going off on an adventure to another world, meeting weird creatures, travelling on trains, and generally getting into trouble.
In addition to that, both movies are amongst the most creatively visual features to appear in anime for many years.
These recent childrens movies both feature adolescent protagonists adventuring in fantastic settings. They have strong animation and fast moving plots that appeal to more mature viewers as well as children.
Alice is a preteen girl who believes in magic, much to the dismay of her parents and peers. The witches of this world must capture forest sprites for use in casting their spells, and magical hierarchy dictates that those at the bottom must compete to get to the top. Both of the anime feature a young girl being dumped into a magical realm full ot bizarre creatures. Both girls search for an item given to them by their parents, an item with great power in the magical realm. Along the way, they make friends and learn about the power within themselves.
