Funkgun

Titles that have complexities far beyond the normal rom-com. They have funny momnets, but plenty of drama as well. What you want to happen does not always happen like you want, but the relations feel real.

The characters are fleshed out in both series. and possibly a bit more in Honely and clover.

Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora

Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora

Yuichi is a teenage boy who was diagnosed with hepatitis; and as staying at the hospital is boring, he often sneaks out at night to hang out with his friends. However, each time he is caught by the slightly sadistic nurse Akiko, he just prolongs his stay at the hospital. After his most recent escape, instead of striking a punch or kick at Yuichi, Akiko says that she'll overlook his sneak outs if he becomes friends with 17-year-old Rika, another hospital resident. Rika doesn't open up to him at first, but she has her reasons: she has a weak heart; and though she may come off as selfish and rude, Yuichi looks beyond the surface to help both of them enjoy what life has to offer.

If you enjoy the serious storylines and the comical ones present in either series, then you'll no doubt enjoy them in the other. While we can enjoy the characters longer in Honey and Clover, you still get to feel the same emotional and sometimes strange lifestyles that these characters display in Hanbun. Both make you fall in love with the situations of each character and their well defined lives.

Lovely Complex

Lovely Complex

Lovely Complex is a story of a boy and a girl. The girl, Koizumi Risa, is much taller than the average Japanese girl; and the boy, Atsushi Otani, is much shorter than the average Japanese boy. Due to their immense difference in size and constant bickering with each other, the duo is unwillingly the school’s comic relief. As Risa and Otani continue to provide endless laughter for the masses, their friendship develops; and with that, so does Risa’s feelings for Otani...

So what happens when someone falls in love and the other person never realises? It is this theme that is common to both Honey and Clover and Lovely Complex. Because of the use of comedy and dramatic scenes, you feel that the relationships experienced in the anime are part of your very life. Through in similiar artistic styles and some great interesting script and a combination that covers pretty much every part of relationship forming. With both series there is a turning point from the past selves to their paths that they are taking.

Paradise Kiss

Paradise Kiss

Yukari is a typical high school student on the fast track to attending a university, but her boring life leaves much to be desired; that is, until a motley crew of fashion design students ask her to model their new clothing line: Paradise Kiss! Now, Yukari must choose if she will reject the life her mother has laid out for her, and start making choices on her own for the first time. While taking her first steps into adulthood, Yukari also begins to realize that with freedom comes responsibility; a life in the fashion industry isn't an easy one, especially for someone unsure of her own intentions…

Both anime are more mature than most romance anime and while they both have a happy core, they dish out some great and emotional drama.

Complicated romances and drama is how these 2 shine together. They are both aimed at older women so they have a more grown up feel to them even if there is some sillyness in the shows as well. Both have very similar animation and will have you glued to your screen until you finish. Check out one if you loved the other.
