The Storyline was well unique!... No that’s not it... crazy! Yes Crazy is the word I shall stick too. I do not normally go for Ecchi Anime, but the Zombie and Survival and all that won over the tag ECCHI!... If you don’t like Ecchi... don’t bother watching this Anime. The only reason I actually watched this Anime without giving up was because I managed to put it through my head that what I am seeing ISNT REAL!... I shouldn’t keep talking about the Ecchi side. The horror, gore, survival, bloody and action side too it was AMAZING. I am not kidding I loved how it progressed but of course the ending LET ME DOWN… even if you add the OVA... it still let me down. * Don’t watch the OVA if you HATE ECCHI... IT’S EVEN WORSE in the OVA.

The Animation and Sound WAS AMAZING and perfect and was the elements that helped with keeping my interest in the Anime.

The Characters … well I am not sure what to talk about here. The main guy Takashi was the only character, bar Alice that I actually liked from the get go and I have never not liked him. The girls bar Alice were annoying, pathetic at time and I KNOW it’s hard to deal with Zombies, but COME ON.. You don’t have to keep showing off your BOOBS!

I mean... Really!?

Alice being the cute little girl I keep talking about was my favourite female girl character in the whole Anime and she didn’t even come into it from the start. The other guy Kouta was pretty funny at times and helped with the humour part of the Anime. One more thing on the characters part... I hate I HATE Koichi.

Overall I did enjoy the Anime… but the overdramatic parts with the Ecchiness and just the Girl characters in general (bar Alice) just made this Anime pathetic at times. The ending also was… bad and I know there was a reason but still…

I completely fell in love with this anime from the start of episode 1... Highschool of the Dead sucessfully combines so many genres, some are; action, romance, comedy, adventure, thriller, horror, ecchi, sienen, drama, harem, and probably more that I forgot. mainly if you like action/ romance anime definitely give this one a go because you will be begging for a season 2 just like I am!

The animation in this anime is beautiful, especially the backgrounds, in the beginning it looks like such a peaceful environment, but then you see zombs walking all around in the peacefulness, it is really something else.

The story is of your adverage zombie film in the 12 episodes that they show, but can easily tell that it can and will develop into something much much more, government conspiracys, people turniung on each other to survive... you will never be bored

I usually dont give a crap about sound in anime, but the music pumps you up, and everything sounds great for the storyline and moods that are depicted.

The characters are very likeable, there is actually not one character in the main group that i wished died, which is a first. And the main male protagonist Takashi Komura is a very relateable, strong reliable character... you will not feel like he is ever pathetic at all.

Highschool of the Dead is a Romance Action anime with lots of blood, gore and a decent bit of fanservice. The only problem I had with it was the fact that it was only 12 episodes and I finished the whole season in 6 hours.

I could include a lot more information but I feel to strange to ATM. I really recommend you watch this if you like action/romance anime, if you don't like zombies and blood you may want to think twice before watching this.

Off-Topic, if you're looking for another great Romance/Action which doesn't have zombies and has the cutest anime girl EVER, watch Rosario + Vampire :)

Story: At first the story of HOTD seemed to show some promise, it really did. But then it went drastically downhill till it became not so much a creepy horror anime, than a pointless bundle of ecchi tied up with a ribbon. The first episode of HOTD was easily the best; it was amazing. Gory deaths, a sad ending climax and sweet romance, it made me think ''This series will be great!'' But straight after that episode it became pretty boring and the ecchi took centre-stage.

I can take ecchi when it doesn't override the whole show, but when it takes up whole episodes (Episode 6 anyone?) and panty shots and boob bounces come flying out of nowhere and totally ruin the mood of the anime, then I start to get irritated. And its true: The amount of ecchi used in HOTD was ridiculous. The show went from an adventurous story of fighting zombies and protecting the girl you love, to guys watching girls wash each others naked bodies in a space of a few minutes.

Animation: Being a very current anime, the animation was very good. But this wasn't necessarilly a good thing since it meant the boobs and pants and various other female bodily parts looked so realistic I felt nauseated everytime I saw them (and that was very often).

Sound: I can't say I really remember the sound used in this anime, with exception for the OP and ED. I liked the opening but other than that not much music was actually used.

Characters: The good thing about these characters is that you're given plenty of characters to hate and plenty to like- the problem is that they kill off all the good characters in episode 1 and leave the ones you hate to survive every single zombie attack. Out of the female cast,  there aren't really any characters I like. Rei irritated me, because one minute she was obsessed with the grey haired guy (The only character I liked) them BAM! as soon as hes dead she goes running after Takashi swearing her undying love to him, it was so fickle it hurt. Saeko was ok, as was the pink haired girl. I felt just plain sorry for the blonde doctor most of the time for being a target of so much fanservice. And both of the boys in the zombie-killing gang I didn't really like much at all, since all they seemed to do was ogle at all the girls' breasts.

Overall: If you like fanservice then this anime is your dream come true, but if you want mindless zombies tearing the limbs off hormonal teenagers then I suggest you go elsewhere.

"Oh man...", that's all I can say so far. I was quite excited to see this anime because it had zombies. After all, there's very few out there at the moment. So as the genre goes, the highschool of the protagonists gets an outbreak of zombies in the Resident Evil Fashion. They fend them off (its funny cuz the zombies are called 'Them') and try to survive in the city.

Animation-

Very clear, very Crisp. there's still moments where it seemed like the creators were on a budget (very few moments though).

Characters-

Boobs, and lots of it! Im not the type of person to hate fanservice, but I have to admit that alot of the fanservice is a bit silly and unnecessary. I found myself laughing often, as those scenes come up frequently (I bursted out laughing when i saw the boobs jiggle literally like jello). Based on this series, i can conclude that the girls with big boobs have a higher survival rate. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the girls used their knockers to deliver head blunt trauma to the zombies.

On the serious side, the male characters are nothing spectacular. The all around good guy leader, and a nerdy fanatic obsessed with guns. For the harem of girls, different hair, different voice, slight range in personality, similar body, similiar quota to show their boobs. Not really bashing them for it, its just excessive.

Conclusion- I was expecting the rinse repeat format in how the story goes (zombies come, survivors struggle to live another day). The last few episodes did not change much story wise, besides the slight change in character perspective. I was expecting a longer story, but a season 2 is suggested.
