Two men driven by ambition roam the realm in disregard of all others, and care for almost nothing. Gatts and Colin Macleod are both exceptional swordsmen and vicious warriors. If you liked the way a true fighter turns sentimental in one of these series, you would enjoy the other.

Afro Samurai

In a futuristic and wild west-inspired Japan, there are only two rules: the Number 1 rules the world and only the Number 2 can challenge him; these ranks are worn with pride in the manner of headbands. In these harsh times, Afro is a samurai who is on a mission for revenge – an evil gunman killed his father to become the Number 1, and it’s up to Afro to take him down in a shower of blood and entrails. He has mastered the art of the sword and become Number 2, but many others want to hold his title and the title of Number 1 for themselves. With competition and sword fights at every turn, can Afro finally exact his revenge?

Revenge. That is theme for both of these shows. You have Afro, who's dad was killed by the "number 2" and you have Colin MacLeod, who's lover was killed by another immortal. Throughout their quests of vengeance, they encounter many opponents and slay a lot of them.

Afro Samurai and Highlander are both great examples of shows that only care about delivering action scenes that are just flat out fun.

How do Death Note and High Lander a Search for Vengeance have in common? Well the first thing is revenge. Both the main characters are searching for it and both have different goals in obtaining them. The main character in Highlander is a misguided fighter of years past while, Light is an inelegance young man that seeks cleansing of the world with Death. After that the similarities do end between the main characters. Light at the end of the series resembles the main villain in High Lander; both try and clean the world with death If you like action then High Lander is your choice while Death Note offers more of a action in high stakes and tension. If you like a romance sprinkled in with your anime then both has that as well; in Death Note it is not as apparent. I recommended these to whoever likes the other.

Highlander and Gungrave are both similar in their characters, violence, and just general grittiness. Fans of one would likely see the appeal in the other.

Highlander actually evokes an older style of anime that makes it a good match for MD Geist. The character designs are much more reminiscent of the 80s or 90s as is the style of action. Geist is pure 80s cheesiness at it's finest. Both anime have plenty of action and Highlanders imitation of an older style makes these two a good match.

Highlander does have a bit more plot, but even then the plot is usually just an excuse for more fights.
