Fortune Arterial and Happiness! are both about a rather mellow guy (not boring or even weak, just slightly mellow) with classmates who have some sort of power. They're both quasi-harem, and proud of it. But these two anime succeed in keeping my attention. They both:

1. Had an element of sweet romance.

2. Combated potential flops in the ho-hum harem school romance ideas with something fantastical: vampires in Fortune Arterial and magic in Happiness!.

3. Stopped themselves just short of chasing me off with too much fan service.

Happiness! stays a bit more focused on the magic side of things than Fortune Arterial did on the vampire side in the first several episodes. However, they both end up being quite interesting in that departement. Interesting enough to make up for any harem tendencies (sorry. As a girl, I can't help that these details don't charm me).

To sum it up: if you liked one, I am 95% sure you'll like the other.

Nyan Koi!

Nyan Koi!

Everyone around Kousaka seems to adore cats, but due to his allergies the teen can’t stand them. So when he wakes up one day and can hear what every feline is saying, Kousaka is annoyed to say the least. His new “gift,” it seems, is the result of accidentally breaking an enshrined statue of a cat; and what’s worse, Kousaka must atone for his sin and appease the vengeful spirit by aiding one hundred kitties-in-distress, or become a furry feline himself! Now, amidst helping various cats with mundane and trivial issues, Kousaka must try to dispel the jinx and attempt to salvage his self-respect – not to mention his love life - along the way.

Both of these anime are light-hearted romantic comedies. Nyan Koi has more emphasis on humour, while Happiness as a greater focus on the romance, but they have a very similar feel to them and are quite entertaining.

Both feature elements of magic, strong characters, real life drama, flashes of romance, love interests, a heartwarming type of story that is either interupted by some phenonmenon or the story heats up under the guise of some hidden element such as an unknown threat rising under their feet.

It may not seem so clear but both stories are: powerful romances with extreme challenges; generous display of magic related to love; and consequences caused by time.  Happiness isn't centered around a time  element the way Kimi no is but things that occurred in past have a direct correlation to the story and it's development.  Kimi has more subtle subdued use of magic as it is implied to be caused by the local god of fate while Happiness centers around it more directly.  In both cases, magic is connected to love.
