Synopsis:

The average Tsukushi Makino attends the snobby, elite Eitoku Academy, which is dominated by the Flower Four (F4) – the sons of the most powerful families. Like the rest of her classmates, Tsukushi keeps a low profile until one day she can stand it no more! For her obstinance, the F4 declare war and it's Tsukushi against all. In the middle of it all, she finds herself drawn strangely close to two of the F4; they might not be as bad as they seem. With her heart torn between two boys, will Tsukushi be able to find the love she desires?

Marmalade Boy and Hana Yori Dango share the same high school romance plot. Both animes introduce a really touching love story between the main characters. Many obstacles block the main characters' paths, but at the end true love conquers all. In Hana Yori Dango, the story stays focused on the main characters of the story and trouble seems to be caused by those main characters, but in Marmalade Boy, many new characters are introduced throughout the series as antagonists. Both animes are similar in length. Artistically, Hana Yori Dango is a bit softer in colour but both animes are pretty old.

Love triangles and a confused high school student... nothing else is missing, these two series really are twins, except that I liked the art better in Marmelade boy. They are both two old series and deals with a girl who can't choose who to like. But Hana Yori Dango was abit more serious than MB. But don't let that stop you if this is the genre you like.

Both of these shows feature a heroine that is not considered the prettiest flower in the garden, and neither one has any other qualities to recommend themselves except their straightforward attitudes. Yet somehow they both seem to attract the attention of two of the more handsome boys at school. Both shows feature dark plot twists. Although of the two Hana Yori Dango is the darker one with the heroine occasionally being treated in a brutal manner by those that oppose her. Coincidentally both shows seem to heavily feature little electronic toys that the heroines are constantly using when reflecting on their love life, by the end of each show I wanted to throw each heroine's respective gadget out the window though.

chamomille

Both main characters, Makino and Miki are strong and cheerful girls who are not sure with their feelings at the beginning..and when they finally realize who they are in love with, they have to overcome many obstacles to be happy..many other characters are involved in both series, especially in Marmalade Boy which develops very slowly..but still, if you liked one, I think you would like the other.

inbee2in

Both have a great love story that is developed with characters you will fall in love with.

There is a struggle and triumph that isn't so forthcoming...it lasts until you've gone through sadness, anger, tears, laughter, frustration and more.

Both will engulf you into their stories and characters from episode to episode like a warm embrace.

My all time favorites Hana Yori Dango, Itazura na Kiss & Marmalade Boy. All three have the same air of longingness and fulfillment that is hard to find in fiction or in life.

Enjoy one and you'll want to see the others.

The characters are rich, entricate and complex. There some you'll love, some you'll hate, some you'll love to hate and others you'll hate to love but will..and still you'll be left wanting more...

Marmalade Boy and Hana Yori Dango have the exact same high school romance feelings to them.  The plot revolves around a female character that is just trying to make it through her high school years.  In both these series it is not so easy for our heroine.  There of course has to be a lot of romance, drama, and confused events taking place to effect how the main characters see each other.  Miki and Makino (Marmalade Boy and Hana Yori Dango respectively) demonstrate their strong willed natures and ability to make it through any situation even when they are not seen as the most popular or prettiest girl among the school.

Ouran High School Host Club

Ouran High School Host Club main image

Ouran High is a school for the extremely wealthy or, in Haruhi's case, the extremely talented. But no amount of talent will help when Haruhi accidentally drops an eight million yen vase in a music room. The vase was the property of Ouran High School Host Club, a group of attractive young men who, for a fee, provide their time and affections for their lovesick clientele: the female students. Fascinated by this strange new specimen, a poor and clumsy commoner, they force Haruhi to work for them until the debt is repaid; but they get a lot more than they bargained for...

If you liked Hana Yori Dango, you'd also like Ouran High School Host Club, because they're both about a female character entering an elite private school that is full of rich kids. There are harems and reverse harems in both.

soccerdory

Both animes are based on reverse harems. Even more than that, each series is based on a teenage girl who is poor, yet somehow ends up attending a high school for the super rich and elite. As such, they both face a lot of obstacles, and their strong spirits and wills to continue ultimately lead to their success. Both series provides us with laughs and of course a little bit of romance. Hana Yori Dango has a little bit more romance, and at times can be sad, which is a little different from the always hilarious and comedic Ouran. I'd say that if you liked one, you'll the love the other as well! ^^

redfire389

both series show us the difficult life of the rich people, and how their lifes affect their love lifes, not being able to decide by themselves. While Ouran is more funny and less dramatic than HYD they treat the same problems and have the same twists between the realationship of the main characters. They show greatly the differences between two different kind of lifes, the rich and the poor, differences like the food, the houses, marriages, etc. And all of this in a high school atmosphere. You'll surely like on if you liked the other.

MariJine

Both heroines in each anime are very identifiable in their desire to lead a normal high school life. However, that wish is changed when they, unfortunately at first, encounter the schools groups of rich boys. Although their personalities and values are total opposites of eachother, the changes brought about through their interactions provide an interestingly comedic story. As romance develops as well, girls would find themselves desiring to be one of the brave heroines!

fairygump13

Both animes have the same type of main female character who has financial issues but for some reason or the other is in a school with very rich students. It's pretty much a reverse harem. Even though Hana Yori Dango is a much older anime they both have wholesome and heartfelt characters. Be prepared to have a marathon because once you start watching you can't stop xD

Both anime are high school dramas, though while Kare Kano goes really deep, Hana Yori Dango isn't that deep, but contains more "action". Sometimes Kare Kano shows art directly from the manga in the anime. This is done (though less often) in Hana Yori Dango as well. The characters in Kare Kano are alot different from the ones in Hana Yori Dango. In Kare Kano, it are perfect students, while in Hana Yori Dango, it are average students. Both enjoyable for everyon who likes high school romances.

Both are the only 2 romantic animes that I can see actually happening, very real situations when most romantic animes feel so fake. Also both are hilarious.
tetra

Kare Kano and Hana Yori Dango are both high school romances with a twist. Neither is new but I have not seen any other anime that have used any of the ideas behind these two. And no, it is not the same twist.

If you are looking for a unique high school series (not an easy thing to find), after having watched one of these, try the other.

palefox

Both Hana Yori Dango and Kare Kano are funny at times but also know when to be serious, so they aren't harem anime or anything. Also they are both set in a school environment with lots of angst and romance too!

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien

Alt titles: Rumbling Hearts

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien main image

Narumi Takayuki is a normal high school student with a crush on Mitsuki, the school's swim star -- that is, until he receives a profession of love from his friend Haruka. But amidst the beautiful budding relationship, tragedy strikes when an accident occurs, turning Narumi’s life upside-down. Kimi ga Nozomu Eien is a compelling drama about one man, and the choices he must make for love.

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien is very similar to this in that it's not the usual people too shy to even kiss each other for 20+ eps romantic anime. The characters feel real in both, plus they both have great stories.
XMrNiceguyX
Both are intruiging and deep romantic stories, though the main difference is the ammount of humor and the naimation. I felt there was alot more humor in Hana Yori Dango, while the animation of Kimi Ga Nozomu EIen is way better.
kamirura
Felt that you wanted more of love triangles? then this is a good choice^^ This time it's not the girl who can't decide who she is in loved with, it's actually the guy. Which is why this is an really interesting series. It got everything you would be looking for if you liked Hana Yori Dango. And this series is also pretty new and well drawn ;) A big plus if you ask me, so be sure to check it out.

Peach Girl

Peach Girl main image

Momo is loud, shallow, a player, a betrayer, and one to best stay away from -- or at least, that's the misconception people have when they see her makeup, bleached hair and suntanned skin. In reality, Momo just wants the same friends, hobbies and crushes any girl her age would like. However, when her only friend starts spreading rumours about her, her boyfriend starts to doubt her, and the most popular boy in school starts to take a more then friendly interest in her, she'll have much more to worry about than just her appearance!

Oh my Peach girl is an exact copy of HYD, well not exact but almost ;p Got the same kind of plot with guys fighting over one girl. I would just say that Peach girl is a new format of HYD so if you like some more love triangles you better watch this one and it's a long one too ;)

The two female leads in their respective animes are highly similar in many ways. Both attract the attention of numerous and most popular males, as well as many jealous females. Comic relief is present in both animes throughout the series. Plots are centered around the love life of the female leads and finding their true love.
JeadiX

These are two fun and dramatic series, each one surrounding a girl with a loud and up-front personality with her mind set on one man, but her heart falling for another. If you liked watching one you would undoubtedly enjoy the other.
