One night, Madoka has a terrible nightmare – against the backdrop of a desolate landscape, she watches a magical girl battle a terrifying creature, and lose. The next day, the teen's dream becomes reality when the girl – Homura – arrives at Mitakihara Middle School as a transfer student, mysteriously warning Madoka to stay just the way she is. But when she and her best friend Miki are pulled into a twisted illusion world and meet a magical creature named Kyubey, the pair discovers that magical girls are real, and what's more, they can choose to become one. All they must do is sign a contract with Kyubey and agree to fight witches that spread despair to the human world, and in return they will be granted a single wish. However, as Homura's omen suggests, there's far more to becoming a magical girl than Madoka and Miki realize...
Both Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica and Gunslinger Girl are stories that only feature adolescent girls as major characters. They also base their storylines on clichéd genres with stunning execution which provides a fresh breeze for the viewer. Little girls emotionally maimed by the horrible things they're forced to go through by their superiors is also a shared theme. If you liked one of them, don't forget to watch the other!
Set in the not so distant future of troubled Tokyo, no job is too big or too small for the Danger Service Agency, as long as danger is involved. The crew is made up of an unlikely team of misfits: Mikura, a girl with a flair for guns and a love of martial arts, Kurokawa, an old man/ex-detective addicted to noodles, Harada, an engineering nut, and Asami, a schoolgirl. Unfortunately, no matter how small or simple job appears to be, the Dsa team always find themselves biting off more than they can chew...
The deadly Mikura and her friends are usually more than skilled enough to handle the dirty jobs they get, but they find themselves in over their head when they try to abduct the millionaire head of a gigantic crime family! Hilarity (and hardcore sex/violence) abounds as they clash with his gorgeous psychotic daughter Momomi and her army of hitmen.
Peace Maker Kurogane takes place in Kyoto in the late 19th century, during the height of the conflict between the Shinsengumi, a shogunal police force, and its enemy, an anti-government faction called the Choshu. This tale follows a young boy named Ichimura Tetsunosuke who is desperate to join the Shinsengumi and avenge his parents' deaths by the hands of the Choshu. But in the midst of the bloodshed, will he be strong enough to survive?
Gunslinger Girl and Peacemaker Kurogane are both anime where the character is the priority. Creating a view into the characters and developing them is their specialty, and by far what distances them from other anime.
