The year is After Colony 195, and mankind is in the midst of a seemingly endless ongoing war between the Space Colonies and the ones who created them: the people of Earth. To give the Colonies the advantage, five mobile suits called Gundams were created. Equipped with enhanced technology and extremely talented young pilots, these are the ultimate machines of war. While Relena Peacecraft pleads for peace, Heero Yui leads the Gundams into the battle with Earth to attain it. As their personalities and visions clash, their goal is the same: freedom for all and peace at last.
Sakura Wars OVA I is the first in a series of productions related to the Sakura Wars games for the Dreamcast. The story takes place in early 20th century Tokyo, whose people rely on steam powered technology. Demons and mechanical beings are increasingly attacking, and must be stopped at all costs. The world's best hope is the Imperial Defense Force - Flower Division, a group of girls with exceptional abilities who must pilot the Spirit Armor -- mechanical shells which help to amplify their powers.
These shows go well together. One has a group of guys, one is a group of girls who pilot mechas to help save humanity. Each character has a very different personality and has a different backgroud.
It is the year 2356 AD, 189 years after a shockwave from a distant supernova decimated the Earth. Since that fateful day, humanity has begun training for a final mission to protect the planet from the inevitable oncoming 2nd shockwave - a mission whose failure means the annihilation of mankind. For Katase and her friends, their training at the foundation Stellvia is just the beginning of an adventure that could lead to saving the world, or seeing its end...
Two centuries have passed since man began colonizing space. The Earth Federation, which governs the human race, has known of the existence of hostile aliens for the past seven years and has been preparing for an invasion. However, while they see military force as the answer, others would rather surrender to the aliens in exchange for their lives. Taking advantage of the confusion, an organization called the Divine Crusaders declares the Earth Federation unfit to protect the planet and plunges humanity into a bloody civil war. Now only a small band of heroes - pilots of experimental super robots - can save the day. Pressured by a desperate Earth Federation government and faced with conflict on all sides, can this mottled group of individuals find the courage to not only end the civil war, but to also defend all of humanity?
Super Robot Wars and Gundam Wing are obviously both mecha series. Beyond simply being mecha series, each series displays a wide variety of UNIQUE mecha designs. Rather than 90% of mecha generally being the same with one or two exceptions in some series, both Gundam Wing and SRW have exception mecha designs, where each mecha has unique abilities beyond bigger and more powerful weaponry.
After years of war, humanity has finally joined forces as the Earth Federation, developing mobile armors to defend against possible alien attacks. But on the inauguration day of the latest prototypes known as the Bartolls, the demonstration soon turns into a real attack; thus marking the end of the peace that mankind was longing and fighting for. What made the Bartolls go berserk, and why are they abducting people? It will be the ATX team’s job to find out the truth and keep the situation under control.

Forty years ago the citizens of Paradigm lost all of their memories, and live their lives without any knowledge of their past, or any hope for the future. Roger Smith is a man who performs the much needed task of negotiator in Paradigm. He provides his services to the wealthy with the help of a peculiar android named Dorothy and his mechanically inclined butler Norman. When greater evil arises, he calls on his magnificent relic of Paradigm's past, the Megadeus Big O. With Big O at his side, Roger Smith may be Paradigm's only hope of surviving in this new world without memories.
Besides the fact that both of these animes deal with gigantic robots, there is also the underlying fight within the characters to find something they lost. If you liked either one of these you should like the other.
