Starship Operators

Starship Operators

When the oppressive Kingdom suddenly conquers the planet Kibi, a group of space cadets are stranded aboard the spaceship Amaterasu. With no money or power, the crew is funded by the Space Channel TV station… for a price. For though they are given the money to buy the Amaterasu and battle the Kingdom, Shinon and the rest of the cadets must also become reality TV stars, allowing the network to dictate how they look, how they fight, and how they react when faced with the horrors of death. For the cadets aboard the Amaterasu, the battle has just begun...

Though Gunbuster is full of mecha and Starship Operators is set on a traditional spaceship, both become beautiful emotional tragedies that complement their plots nicely. This is a recommendation pair that I just think you'd like.

redfire389

Both animes are about people fighting in spaceships and robots against their rivals in order to protect humanity. The feeling of losing loved ones and friends is always common in both animes.

Blue Gender

Blue Gender

In the early 21st century, the emergence of an incurable condition known as B-cell growth led some of the affected to become "Sleepers" - people put under stasis until a cure could be found. Yuji Kaido is one such Sleeper who awakens, several decades later, to a horrifying new reality. Giant bugs known as Blue have invaded the Earth, eating everything - and everyone - in sight. Now, all Yuji can do is escape from the city with the ones who saved him from his inevitable death, and make their way towards Second Earth: mankind's new home in space.

Both of these shows have to deal with Mecha robots and aliens that want to destroy the planet Earth. Blue Gender is how the alien life forms took over the planet and the military is trying to take it back, but will they ever succeed?  And GunBuster is about war with space aliens that are trying to get to plant earth, but will they get there? Both shows are filled with action and adventure and both have great story's.

Also There is Gunbuster2 but is different story from than first one.

If you liked Gunbuster, but felt that the nuanced emotional final episodes really bogged down the series as a whole, or if you liked Candidate for Goddess but thought it was missing some necessary depth, be sure to check the other out.

Both are about young teenagers put together in a training facility and focuses on them, their relationships, their rivalries, and the enormous robots they are learning to pilot.

Detonator Orgun

Detonator Orgun

Tomoru Shindo yearns to become a pilot and taste adventure, but the rigid structure of his advanced society leaves him bored and wishing he was born into the chaos and romance of the past. This simple wish turns into reality when a chance encounter with a Dr Kanzaki gets him involved with the greatest conflict that will engulf Earth yet: the invasion of Earth by the alien race, the Evoluders. Dr Kanzaki was building an Evoluder whose data had reached Earth, and Tomoru finds that he can link to it and access its memories. Its name is Orgun, and seems to have a connection to Tomoru, and Tomoru's past...

Drahken

Both of these series feel very much alike. They also share some plot points, such as; Effects of time dilation, a seeming undefeatable alien invasion force, a hyper-powerful mecha who is the earth's last hope.
