If you liked the Gunbuster 2 anime, the Anime-Planet community thinks you'd like:
Without warning, a giant alien bell suddenly appeared over the skies of Tokyo. Its purpose, it broadcast, was to take over the Earth, a plan which so far has not been thwarted. Luckily for humanity, the Magic Users Club of Kitanohashi High School is here to save the day! Armed with 2 new recruits and a load of magical talent, Takakura, Aburatsubo, and the rest of the gang begin to train daily for the goal of defeating the bell, and finally earning the respect of the Mizuha Miyama manga club, their largest rival!
One of Gunbuster 2's selling points is that it's a very light hearted, feel-good ecchi comedy. If Nono's simple minded but loveable determination is a big part of what draws you, then look no further than Magic Users Club for your next fix. It too is an ecchi comedy with a clumsy but sweet female lead positively obsessed with her hobby. Like Nono, her innocent thought processes are overpowering to the point where it jeapordizes her common sense.
Subtract the undertones of Yuri from gunbuster, change up the setting to a high school Magic Club, and strangely enough, keep the aliens that threaten humanity, and there you have Magic Users Club.
If you are like me and watched movie version of Gunbuster 2 and really enjoyed it from start to the end, when I recommend you yo watch anime movie Space Battleship Yamato: Resurrection and wise versa. Although Yamato: Resurrection doesn't have that Gunbuster "charm" and is takes more serious approach both anime is about mankind survival and saving our mother Earth. Also both anime sometimes have that over the top feeling ,but I am not saying that is bad thing that what makes those anime both so great and interesting to watch.
In a far and distant future, men and women have become mortal enemies. Each living on seperate planets, an interstellar war is being fought between the two very different peoples. Hibiki, a mere 3rd class worker, finds himself in the middle of a huge space battle, facing the nemesis of mankind: Womankind!
