With the same people behind them, both of these anime have some really noticeable similarities, starting with the cast of teenagers stuck inside a conflict on a big scale where they’re forced to act, or MC with newfound supernatural powers. With quite similar progression, pace and other elements such as supernatural powers or military shenanigans, these two will definitely appeal to the same audience. If you liked one, there’s a good chance you might like the other one.

Shakugan no Shana

Shakugan no Shana

Sakai Yuuji thought he was a normal high school student, until one fateful day when time stopped. Watching in horror, he witnesses a monster devouring the "frozen" people around him; but luckily for Yuuji, he is saved by a sword-wielding red-headed girl that calls herself a "Flame Haze". The girl informs him that he has been dead for some time now and that his current self is merely a replacement for the human that he used be while alive. He is, she says, merely a torch whose life will come to an end when the blue flame in his chest ceases to burn. After this rude awakening, Yuuji realizes that he is able to see the flames of life in other "torches"; and after discovering that a friend of his is also a torch -- and her life is burning out faster than his – he gains the courage to live out the rest of his life with meaning. Will Yuuji be able to find his place in the world before he ceases to exist?

I can't believe no one thought about this. In blouth anime we have a maile and female main character, in bouth anime, the males start soft, than they get a "badd ass" feel, going to the other side for the sake of their friends, followers, but at the end they still reunite on the"good side" {some forever, wile other in their hears}.(watch bouth to see wicb and wich).

Bouth anime give a similar feel for the action, the chaaracters, the way the main female and male character interract.

Kamui has returned to Tokyo with a traumatizing past, but he is not the only one. Many people are returning to Tokyo for the same reason: they play a part in the End of the World. The Dragons of Earth and the Dragons of Heaven now must fight for the destruction or safety of the world. But is this troubled Kamui really the key to saving the world?

If you're familiar with Code Geass, you should also be familiar with X/1999 which is the kind of the foundation for Code Geass. Guilty Crown has a similar story and tone to X as both are dark, tragic, supernatural, and apocalyptic except that GC is more sci fi than X as X is more inclined to supernatural. Japan is the setting in both stories and serves as the battlefields as well which costs the character's lives episode by episode leaving the surviving characters the not so simple finale.

King of Thorn

King of Thorn

Medusa is a mysterious illness which causes the body to petrify shortly after infection, found throughout the world and steadily increasing the death toll. In order to combat the disease, 160 lottery winners were chosen to be frozen until a cure could be found, one of whom is Kasumi - a twin whose sibling was not one of the chosen. Along with a group of others Kasumi awakens from her cryogenic chamber, but not to the same world she left it: prehistoric monsters roam the now-abandoned castle and eat the survivors, while endless giant thorns rise all around them. Against all odds, Kasumi and the others must now try to survive the horror of their situation and discover the truth behind what's happening, all the while waiting for the Medusa to finally claim their lives...

Both of these anime surround the idea of a disease which is a threat to the human race, this disease can turn people into a substance like stone and then make them perish we that is what I thought it was like. Anyway both have these sci-fi elements and the main character is a bit out of the ordinary in one way or another. Anyway King of Thorn is to me a darker version of Guilty Crown and if you liked one you should like the other.
