These two comedic shows both revolve around a set of characters operating a small business, and are sure to entertain you with their wacky characters. Cuticle's sense of humor and gag delivery/timing is very similar to Gintama's, so if you like either show, check the other out.

bunnylovesanime bunnylovesanime says...

In both shows you get a main character with two side kicks a guy and girl who solve incrediblely funny crimes.  You also get a a crazy police/inapector and their own insane crew of side kicks. In both shows you have a lot of jokes, puns, and slap stick moments. It is safe to say if you like one you would like the other.

Chitaka Chitaka says...

Both of these anime have the same exact kind of wacky spaztic "what the heck is going on here?" humor that you just kind of have to learn to expect and not question, which is what makes it funny. Kei and Shinpachi also both have exactly the same role of the straight man and usually point out the fact that nothing makes sense, personally I like Kei better though just because I think he's a better character and he's funnier. Hopefully Cuticle Detective wont run forever and get stale though like Gintama sort of does, depending on your preferences.

cravelikesugar cravelikesugar says...

Both are funny animes and have the abilirty to have both a plot while not really have one in a way. If you enjoy comedy watch Gintama and Cuticle Tanei inaba.

What I like in One-Punch Man so far the most is that it resembles humour of Gintama. So if you liked Gintama style of comedy, you will also dig One-Punch Man and vice versa :3

Soltine Soltine says...

Through out each episode of One Punch Man I felt such a massive Gintama vibe that I found my self searching each scene for a pair of glasses.

Seriously though OPM and Gintama each share a love of the absured. Gags mixed with heart wrenching moments and insane fights simply leading to (one ) punchline.

BJJShutIn BJJShutIn says...

Both main characters have funny, characters who tend to say and do things they probably shouldn't in ridiculous and dangerous situations.

Halex Halex says...

Both have the same type of sarcastic humor with excellent graphics that go beyond a regular comedy will do. Also, in both shows, the main protagonist rarely ever gets the praise they deserve.

Both series take place in the future and are a bit absurd (Gintama much more so)... While Cowboy Bebop involves bounty hunting, Gintama is more of a um...person who will take any job kind of thing.

Iahel Iahel says...

You can beat me up, but they're really almost the same. Firstly it's the plot structure - combination of serious and comedy episodes is the main feature for both, different length (26 eps vs >150 eps) doesn't stop them from showing some bizarre and random unconnected stories for one or few episodes length with some great story line behind the scene. Secondly it's the characters, Gintoki resembles Spike in all respects, they're both easygoing attractive guys with some dark past and fellows that was their friends but now they're enemies; you can beat me up one more time, but I think Kagura was created under the impression of Edward, they're both red, crazy, have some special unique skills and travel with dogs, though the main similarity is the "crazy" part; Jet and Shinpachi... I think if you try hard enough you'll find some similarities even between those guys. But the main thing putting those series together is an atmosphere that resembles normal life of mere human without any superpowers, and of course the fact that characters always have problems with supplies and tackle unprofitable jobs just in the cause of their mellowness. By the way, Sunrise is a producer for both of them.

subparalien subparalien says...

Gintama is a boatload of fun. Cowboy Bebop is relatively serious in terms of tone, while Gintama is primarily a gag anime. That said, Gintama has serious arcs (there's a lot of episodes), and both Gintama and Cowboy Bebop have excellent fight scenes.

Both are wonderful, wild rides. Enjoy!

There are many references in Gintama to Bleach. If you enjoy Bleach's humour, and/or have seen a lot of anime, you will enjoy Gintama. If you enjoy the action and fighting in Gintama, you will enjoy Bleach too.

Azioria Azioria says...

Bleach and Gintama are both Shonen Jump anime, and not saying all Jump anime are all similar, but both animes share quite a few characteristics. Both animes are like flips of each other; in Bleach, replace the main action with comedy and the sub comedy with action, and you've got Gintama. Vice-versa. And although Gintama has multiple times more parodies than Bleach, I'm sure if you enjoyed one, you'll surely enjoy the other.

Nighstar Nighstar says...

Despite the fact Gintama has mentioned Bleach numerous times, and it's awsome to acknowledge that fact.

The two anime are very similar in characters.

Level E

Level E

Yukitaka has just left Tokyo, eager to transfer to Kisaragi High where he's been recruited to play baseball. However, upon entering his new apartment, the boy is met by a man with long blonde hair who claims to be… an alien?! After initially scoffing at the notion, Yukitaka discovers that the alien – Ouji – is for real, has amnesia and, what's worse, now wants to live with him in his apartment. The fact that scientists and mysterious guys in black suits are after Ouji becomes the least of Yukitaka's problems as his new guest turns out to be more than a handful to handle!

The humor in Level E is very similar to the type of humor you will get in Gintama.  Level E features parody humor, just like Gintama.  Both series enjoy epic trolling of their audience and characters as well.  Both series are generally very funny.  If you found one funny, chances are you'll find the other funny

Archaeon Archaeon says...

Aliens and humans joining forces to bring some humour into our grey little lives.

That and Level E actually makes a good introduction if you want to get an idea of what Gintama is like, but are daunted by 200+ episodes.

Justaway Justaway says...

Do you like main characters that screws around with your head and talks nonsense? Then both Gintama and Level E are something for you!

The both have lots of comedy and more serious moments, which still isen't really serious.

If you like Gintama then you'll like Beelzebub. They relate to each other in that both anime's are gag anime's but can get serious at times. Both main characters give little or no regard to those around them but somehow always end up helping out when needed. The shows are also mostly humor based and sometimes are offensive but either way if you like one you'll probably like the other.

PurpleCatAngel PurpleCatAngel says...

Like Gintama, Beelzebub has randomness and an off plot. Plus a lot of comedy and romance from some characters.

Both are very funny, while having serious arcs, and if you liked one of them you will surely like the other!!

Cromartie High School

Cromartie High School

At Cromartie High, it’s tough being a delinquent -- a fact that do-gooder Takashi Kamiyama intimately understands. When he’s not engaging in contests of strength and rival gang wars, Kamiyama can also be found submitting punny jokes and planning his own rise to fame within the delinquents’ ranks, and that’s just the beginning! With friends like robotic Mechazawa, a giant gorilla, a hairy man from the 80s named Freddie and a clan of delinquents with mohawks that flow in the wind, how can anyone not enjoy high school?

XMrNiceguyX XMrNiceguyX says...

On first sight, Cromartie High School and Gintama do not seem to have much in common. Significantly different artstyle, different setting and different number of episodes. However, the main reason for this recommendation is the similarities in style of humor, (mostly) excluding the episodes with a more serious tone in Gintama. Both series heavily rely on humor based on impressions given by characters on conduct by other characters, resulting in random (or unexpected) events. This is further aided with the Amanto (or aliens) in Gintama and the silent (and "animorphic") characters in Cromartie High School.

Furthermore, both series heavily rely on knowledge of the Japanese language and culture to be fully understood and appreciated. If you are able to watch these series with developers commentary and/or interpretations of experts in hand, I would definitely recommend consulting these notes while watching the shows.

The only main caution in this recommendation is that the pace and consistence of jokes of both series signicantly differ. Where Gintama is a rollercoaster of genres, Cromartie High School almost exclusively sticks to Comedy.

nightwing2210 nightwing2210 says...

Both witty, both their own humour and a good laugh to watch if you like silly humour. Only difference is that cromartie does not have any serious arch stories like Gintoki san does at times

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.

Kusuo Saiki is a typical 16-year-old high school student… except he has psychic powers. He can use them to get whatever he wants, but he also knows everything that people are thinking. Everything. No surprises, no secrets, no normal human experiences. He's kept his powers in check since childhood, but with the temptations of high school now on his mind, he's bending the rules—and spoons.

The types of humor in Saiki show up often in Gintama and they're both primarily comedy anime that devote much of their runtime to their gags. All character interactions are similar as well.

gintama and saiki k have similar comedy, both worlds are.. unusual, the episodes in both animes are unrelated (except for the serious/ semi serious arcs and the multiple part episodes) i just think in general if you liked one of them you will for sure love the other one n enjoy it:3 also saiki kinda reminds me of gin chan because they both seem like they just dont care n are done with everything but they're actually always there for their friends n are always willing to help them out, p wholesome if u ask me<3

Both Gintama and Saiki K have a lot of comedy. They also have a lot of gags and randomness in each episode. Both have memorable characters. There's even a Gintama reference in the second season of Saiki K!

Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei

Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei

Life is simply not worth living for down and out school teacher Itoshiki Nozomu. He has no hope of progress, no prospect of promotion, no chance at happiness… he is in despair! Even his name spells 'zetsubou' – 'despair', when compressed. But when the time comes to end it all, Itoshiki's attempted suicide on the first day of the new school year is foiled by relentlessly positive Fuura Kafuka. This saves Itoshiki long enough to meet his new class, and the quirky range of students under his care. Will Itoshiki Nozomu depress his students with his anguish? Or will Fuura show Zetsubou-sensei the joys of life and hope?

pingwing pingwing says...

The humour in Gintama and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is one of the same kind. The characters are totally out of touch with reality and are all messed up lunatics in their own way. Another similarity is that both series hint at or have parodies on other anime series or Japanese society in general.

Basically the authors of both series use the series to have a good laugh and make fun. :) I would describe Zetsubou as the Gintama version of Great Teacher Onizuka. :)

UltimateShinobi UltimateShinobi says...

Both stories are very eccentric and are also very enjoyable. The settings differ and so does the comedy stye, however both anime are very funny.

Lucky Star

Lucky Star

In present day Japan, the life of a school girl is never dull. The easily-bored Konata never finds time to study because of her otaku habits, which frustrates hard-working Kagami to no end. On the other hand, laid-back Tsukasa always manages to go with the flow, while Miyuki is concerned with keeping her status as resident know-it-all. Join these four girls as they muse and meander their way through everyday events such as eating chocolate cones, doing homework, gaming, and trips to the beach galore.

Now this might sound crazy, but I actually recommend you viewers of Gintama to go watch Lucky Star. First of all, both shows are outrageous comedies with pop-culture references (Lucky Star is covered almost head-to-toe with references and cameos). However, both shows have their own unique style (Gintama is a fish-out-of-water comedy while Lucky Star is all slice-of-life), yet both shows are still side-holding comedies.

WolfAngelus WolfAngelus says...

Both anime are:-Extremely funny, if comedy was the main enjoyment factor, then the recommended anime is a great choice-Random based, what happens from episode to episode generally has little or no relation. The conversations can get really long and about something trivial that comes randomly out of no where which is what exactly what happens in either or.

Those two are the key reasons for me, this is ultimately what the dominating feeling was in presentation and goals for the anime. Essentially having a silly, funny, random with characters that have very distinct and strong personalities.
