Izumiko has lived a secluded, sheltered life in a mountain shrine since she was born. Having been raised to become the vessel of the Hime-gami, a mysterious force, the girl’s family has carefully planned and measured all aspects of her life - from the prestigious school she’s meant to attend to even her hair style. So when Izumiko is threatened by strange events, her father forces yet another obligation on her: Miyuki Sagara, a mountain monk descendant who’s fated to be her bodyguard. Unfortunately for the duo, neither is happy about the arrangement, especially Miyuki, who’s being exiled from his home city to guard a girl he considers to be useless. Can the two learn to find common ground in their search to understand the supernatural mysteries unfolding around them?
The main similiarity between these two is the shoujo + supernatural feel the shows give off. They never get too dark, but they're not afraid to give out a bit of a creepy atmosphere. The main characters are also somewhat similar, however Taniyama from GH is not nearly as shy as Izumiko from RDG.
If you liked the shoujo/supernatural aspects of one, then you should be able to appreciate the other.

Both of these anime feature a collection of people with special abilities; in Ghost Hunt they are all psychics of differing types and in Rental Magica they are all mages of various branches of magic. Both series follow the groups as their companies take on various cases to solve.
Ghost Hunt is the darker series with a strong splash of horror, whereas Rental Magica is a lot lighter with more of a harem feel. However both series have a similar premise with an underlying mystery surrounding the central male character.

The boy quickly finds these rumors to be true when he meets Yuuko Kanoe, a beautiful, mischievous girl who quickly takes a liking to him... and happens to be a ghost who seemingly no one else can see! With fellow memebers Momoe and Kirie, the pair will investigate the many strange happenings around campus, including the shadowy circumstances surrounding Yuuko’s death.
Both Ghost Hunt and Tasogare Otome X Amnesia have a good mixture of romance and horror. They both have the "paranormal activity investigation" element where the truth to ghost stories and superstitions is constantly challenged only to be proven later on.
If you liked the serious approach to horror stories in one, you'll love the other!
The eccentric Suzumiya Haruhi wants nothing more than to meet aliens, time travelers and espers… but she’ll have to settle for the everyday Kyon instead! Along with the mysterious Itsuki and the vacant Mikuru, the duo forms the SOS Brigade – a club whose mission is to discover the mysteries of the world. Armed with a razor sharp wit and a skill for manipulation, Haruhi will stop at nothing to have fun at all costs, even at the expense of Mikuru’s dignity!
Although Ghost Hunt is much more serious and its main themes involve the paranormal, fans of the series will most likely fall for Haruhi as well. Despite Haruhi being more comedic at times it deals with lots of supernatural events and talk of mysterious beings and gods. If you liked Ghost Hunt you'll most likely get something out of Haruhi too.
