Synopsis:

Genshiken has won its own sales booth at the upcoming ComiFes, and so for the first time they will be participating as a seller instead of navigating through the convention crowds. The club, now with a couple of new members and Sasahara as the chairman, combines the talents of its various members and begins working on its debut doujinshi release. With members having various personal matters to take care of and the deadline rapidly approaching, will they be able to complete it in time?

Honey and Clover

Honey and Clover

Art college: cradle of romance, home of bittersweet moments. Takemoto is struggling to find his direction in life, while his roommates Morita and Mayama are moving confidently - or recklessly - towards their goals. Enter Hagu-chan, the childlike and beautiful prodigy whom everyone admires; and thus the love triangles begin. Together, the trio explore the pain of first love, the trials of romantic conflict, and our loyalty to those annoying people who happen to be our closest friends.

Both are about a buch of friends bound together by their interests (in Honey&Clover they go to the same university while in Genshiken to the same club) and their struggles in life (love, friendship, future). I\'m sure you\'ll find the main characters very alike.

Kujibiki started out as an 'anime in an anime' on Genshiken, that later became a real anime.

They don't really have anything in common. But there are so many references to Kujibiki in Genshiken, that watching it will give you a greater appreciation of Genshiken.

Kujibiki Unbalance is the anime within an anime featured in Genshiken. They are made by the same studio and absolutely a must see if you've seen either series and want more. Genshiken is about Otaku culture, Kujibiki is an exploitation of anime themes and trends. Androids, check. Aliens, check. Childhood promise, check. The fact that Kujibiki was made up to be featured in Genshiken makes it a must see if you are a fan. If you somehow happened upon Kujibiki first then do yourself and favor and watch Genshiken and Genshiken 2!

Otaku no Video

Otaku no Video
  • OVA (2 eps x 48 min)
  • 1991

Ken Kubo is a normal man with a normal job who is besotted in a normal way with a female friend. But life turns distinctly abnormal when he meets an otaku, Tanaka, and is indoctrinated into the obscure world of anime, model guns, and garage kits. As Kubo finds himself shunned by those he cares about, he becomes only more determined to evolve into the ultimate being - the Otakuking! But Kubo is not the only one coming to terms with society. While he strives to mould the world into a perfect haven for people like him, otaku all across Japan are laying bare their strange, lonely lives for the first time… and it’s not a pretty sight.

Otaku no Video and Genshiken both deal with the Anime/Manga/Model/Cosplay/Conventions club atmosphere in Japan. Both series are comedy, but deal with issues otaku deal with in real life.

Seitokai no Ichizon

Seitokai no Ichizon

There’s never a dull day in lives of the Hekiyou Academy student council! President Kurimu has a sweet tooth and neglects her duties with ease, while secretary Chizuru skillfully manipulates those around her. Otaku Mafuyu obsesses over writing online walkthroughs, and is constantly hounded by Ken, the only male of their crew and an eroge addict who has the ultimate goal to turn the entire council into his harem. Luckily for Mafuyu she’s protected from his advances by Minatsu, her sporty and tomboyish sister! Together, the five repeatedly struggle in their fight against boredom, making constant otaku references and fighting against the journalism club along the way!

If you enjoyed Genshiken, you would definitely enjoy Seizon due to to it's complete disregard for the fourth wall and it's spontaneous and random comedy.
