Hitomi was just a normal high school girl, until she was taken by the mysterious Van Fanel and dropped into a world of romance, magic and giant sword-wielding armor suits! Now Van, pilot of the famed armor suit Escaflowne; and Hitomi, whose hobby of predicting the future just became a frightening reality, must work together and fight the advanced technology of Zaibach: a force who want to shape Gaea to their visions of "peace". Follow Hitomi in her struggles against both these forces who seek to conquer this world, and her own confused heart.
I see Escaflowne more of a fantasy version of Full Metal Panic, and not just because both have mecha, but I can even can see the same love-triangle in Escaflowne as in Full Metal Panic. Since escaflowne has less humor than full metal panic, the characters of the escaflowne characters can't be the same as the full metal panic ones. So in order to see this similar triangle: switch the genders of the characters and change the arrows of the onesided love to: FROM hitomi (or TO sakara if you as reading this via escaflowne). As a last point: Both series hava a mayor bad guy, though the one in escaflowne is alot more oassive than the one in Full Metal Panic. Whole different seting, though if you liekd the mecha and the onesides love tirangle, check out Escaflowne. If you liked the little comedy in Escaflowne and liked the Mecha. Go for Full Metal Panic
Just like Full Metal Panic, Vision of Escaflowne is an excellent anime with incredible mobile suit battle robots. The action comes pouring throughout this story, which is a cool combination of Medieval and futuristic styles, of kings and knights, and of giant flying fortresses up in the sky. Escaflowne is one of my most highly recommended anime series.
A young girl suddenly finds herself thrust into a strange new world of mecha combat, with her only protection being an overly serious ace mech pilot, and the strange abilities she possess that even she barely understands.
I'm not a big fan of mecha anime so let me say that right away. However these two particular anime are something special. Full Metal Panic! manages to incorporate a wide enough variety of aspects from each anime genre to make it a generally enjoyable series for any anime viewer. Vision of Escaflowne is also very similar in this respect and you will find some similar characters.
Despite being so different at first sight, Escaflowne and FMP share a lot of similarities. Both have a romantic part, though in FMP it is more comedic. There is also mecha action, and a story with similar elements and build ups. After taking a deeper look into these, the main difference the two series have is that FMP is aimed more at a male audience, while Escaflowne is better for females.
If you enjoy a mix of romance and epic action then both Full Metal Panic! and Escaflowne are for you. They have strong character development and fast-paced stories. Also, they both include a healthy mix of drama and mecha battles. Full Metal Panic! has excellent comedy, while Escaflowne sticks to more it's serious tone and story telling.
Both Escaflowne and FMP! have elements of fantasy, romance, and mechas. Both the protagonists are young girls that find they have some interesting abilities after they run into a man that is more action than romance. With plenty of fighting, romance, and intrigue, these two series compliment each other nicely.
Once upon a time, two brothers passed the happy days of their childhood by studying alchemy, which is governed by the equal transfer principle: an eye for an eye -- you can't get more than you give. But these brothers tried to defy that law, and a horrific accident resulted. Now, the older brother, Edward, is called the Full Metal Alchemist because of his metal limbs, and the younger, Alphonse, is a soul without a body, trapped within the confines of an automaton. Together they search for the power to restore themselves, to find the lives they lost so long ago...
FMP and FMA, while completely different in terms of story and setting, are both excellent "paired" shows as they are both, for lack of a better term, "balanced" shows. They are both a well-paced blend of comedy, action and drama. Both shows also manage to have well-developed characters-not only the protagonists, but also the "side" characters.
A combination of action and comedy with some tragic parts thrown in make up the scenario for both Full Metal Panic and Full Metal Alchemist. Similar standing between the characters relationships with each other.
Well FMP and FMA,not only have somehow a similar name, but somehow a similar storyline. In both there is some goal, which they need to reach, but with sacrifices.I think you should check that.
If you liked Full Metal Panic!, try out this similarly-named anime. On the surface the two shows aren't similar at all, but there's a good mix of both laugh-out-loud funny moments, tense action scenes, and dark, dramatic character moments.
Amazing characters, action, and plot you will find in both anime. While they seem to be completely different genres FMP being mecha and FMA being alchemy but they both share a military theme that was done extreemly well in both. If you liked one check out the other.
Each of these series contain a good balance of comedy and action while keeping a good plot in sight. Furthermore, each series has strong ties to the military and, at times, when to question the military.
Im lying here. I just wanted to interject and say that these anime are completely different. FMP is trash. Stereotypical undeveloped characters, bland "humor", and a practically non-existent plot. FMA is fucking amazing, even if FMA:B is better.
The universe of the future is divided between the Earth Alliance and ZAFT. After a year of war, ZAFT attacks the neutral colony Heliopolis to steal five prototype mobile suits. The mission is a success, but a young man named Kira stumbles upon the fifth Gundam, and he may be the Alliance's only hope...
the reason I picked Gundam for the nr. one choice for the series I´d recamende for FMP is Gundam, the reason it bacame seed is beacuse seed is the newest thing on the block and has the prettiest animation of the mecha´s ( of the gundam episodes Ive seen). FMP shares the Mecha/drama/love in aspect to Gundam Seed.
Number one thing that both share are the Mobile Suits with which the main characters fight. In both stories a young male is the main character who fights for what he thinks is right, both find pain and love as they try to make their way through life. But Full Metal Panic has much more Comedy in it than Gundamn Seed, though at soem times the story gets rather serious.
People with special knowledge are making mobile suits - coordinators and whispers - which are far stronger than normal mobile suits. Though it's not my thing, Gundam SEED and FMP are a must see for any mecha fan
Gundam SEED shares the gorgeous animation and focus on intra-character relationships that make Full Metal Panic so enjoyable.
For the mecha lovers these two might be great choices! First of all, you'll find robots in both animes, but more importantly, robots that are greater than the regular ones, robots that are specially made for the greatest pilots . Second of all, these pilots, the protagonists, go through a series of changes, especially psychologically, changes that help them be better , stronger ,and have a clearer mind . It's the characters' evolution that is one of the things that make the two so good. In addition, you might like the love stories that create along the way, the help the boy gets from his loved one and the feeling of protecting the weak from evil. MSGS and FMP are both worth watching!
Awesome mecha battles, is more needed to be said?
Also, relationships are a big focus for both.
In 2010, the Britannian Empire enslaved Japan using powerful mecha known as Knightmares; in the aftermath Japan was renamed Area 11, and its people began a hard and terrible existence. Lelouch, a Britannian student living in Area 11, has grown up hating the Empire and everything it stands for. One day, in the middle of a terrorist attack, Lelouch meets a mysterious girl who grants him the ability to control minds. Can he use his new power to fight for freedom, or will his hatred twist his good intentions into mindless acts of vengeance?
FMP and Code Geass both excel in 1 thing: mecha action! Mecha isn't my genre at all, but with the addition of both military tactics and an un-Earthly weapon that isn't too overpowered; even i have to admit that you can find another anime to your liking by completing these two anime.
If you liked one for the giant mech fights, then you'll surely like the other. The fights the characters go through also mess with their lives outside the battlefield, causing a struggle to keep both sides in check.
If you liked FMP, you'll likely enjoy Code Geass because they both have a lot of mech fighting, are centered, at least most of the series, around high school, and have some mysterious powers endowed within the main characters.
Enjoy Mega epic mecha battles? Like plenty of strategic planning? Backstabbing (although more prevalent in geass)? If the answer is yes, you will find both a plenty in these animes.
Code Geass and Full Metal Panic! Are about high school aged students that get caught up in a military type of situation. With lots of intense battle scenes and giant robot fights these two series are perfect.
Combine Mecha, government conspiracy, the supernatural, and school life. You now have the major points of both FMP and Code Geass. Both feature a rather rich cast of characters and plenty of mecha battles.

Kaze no Stigma has a similar feel to Full Metal Panic! The heroines remind me of each other and the art has a very similar feel. It's an action-romance type with a tough main character.
Kaze no Stigma and Full Metal Panic! Both have the romantic aspects while being in high intensity situations. The heroines of the stories have similar personalities with stubborn attitudes towards the male counterparts.
A rather tsundere female lead with hidden talents, a cool-as-ice, but socially awkward male lead, and a cast of interesting, often humerous side characters. The way the two leads work together is similar in both anime, and the villain has ties to the male leads past.
Not only do the series have mirror like plots they also have characters with personalities that are very similar. If you like one you will definately like the other.
Both have similar main characters, a stong and very loud female role accompanied with a strong and heavy burdened male role. The only big difference is tat Kaze no Stigma uses magic as a method of fighting while Full Metal Panic uses machinery.
Both have a very similar female main character both physically and mentally. they are both hotheaded and strong plus the main male characters are also very similar, physically and both are very strong and good at what they are doing. and of course both girls like the main male character.
