Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid

Synopsis:

Half a year has passed since Sagara Sousuke took up the job of protecting Kaname Chidori and has started living like a normal teenager for the first time. A former child soldier, his view on the perils of everyday life is highly unconventional and in frequent need of violent adjustment; Chidori can only hope her endless assault will eventually get him used to normal life. But a shadow looms over their happy days as Sousuke's employer, the private army called Mithril, is attacked by a new unknown enemy. Suddenly outgunned, can Mithril afford to keep one of their best playing around?

Toradora!

Toradora!

Ryuuji Takasu has an eventful life: his classmates think he's a delinquent due to his 'killer' eyes; his crush Minori seems ever out of reach; and he’s just had an unfortunate encounter with 'palm-sized Taiga' – a feisty and dainty wench in his class. With different cleaning habits and tempers, the two clash like night and day; that is, except for the fact that Taiga and Ryuuji have crushes on the other's good friend! With school rumors abounding, the duo must now work together to play matchmaker for each other. Who will end up with their true love?

I know this probably seems like a strange rec, but...Toradora is what FMP! would be if it had nothing to do with war or mechs. To go from one series to the other might be a bit jarring--it requires that you like both romantic comedy and are fine with occasionally gritty, violent action scenes--but the two relationships at the heart of it are very similar. A tsundere that has more troubles than the people around her realize, and a quiet loner that has trouble dealing with other people (for Sousuke because of his childhood as a soldier, for Ryu because of his scary looks and being raised without his father).  It's strange, but I really did identify the two pairs together, and the animation also felt very similar at parts...so I think there's a chance fans of one will like the other (assuming they like both genres of course).

Valkyria Chronicles

Valkyria Chronicles

The Nation of Gallia has always remained neutral in conflicts and has only gone to war to defend itself. However, as war flares between the East Europan Imperial Alliance and the Atlantic Federation, Gallia is soon targeted for its abundance of ragnite ore, a versatile and hugely valuable material. The Civilian Militia is soon called into action, and Welkin Gunther - son of a legendary war hero - is named leader of Squad 7. Under his command are the headstrong and practical Alicia Melchiott; the sharp-tongued Brigitte Stark; the grizzled veteran, Largo Potter; and Welkin's adopted sister Isara, whose Darcsen heritage means she faces prejudice, even from members of her own squad. With the rest of Squad 7 and the mighty tank Edelweiss, they must do their best to defend Gallia.

Valkyria Chron. and Full metal panic share a similiar story-line but based in a different time peroid. Both share a kind and caring male role who are slow witted when it comes to women.

Both share a slightly aggressive female protagonist role, Full Metal panic's kaname being the more aggressive character.

Horrible comparison but you should watch both if you haven't :)
