Tohru Honda is a compassionate girl who is down on her luck. Her mother having recently died, she has been forced to camp out in the woods for shelter. However, things start to turn around once she is invited to live with class hunk Yuki Sohma and his family... but all is not as it seems! Yuki's family is burdened with a dark curse which causes them to turn into the animals of the Chinese zodiac once hugged by a member of the opposite sex... and Honda may be the only one who can help them.
Tenma Tsukamoto is young, bright, and smitten with the school hottie Oji Karasuma. She's desperate for his attention, which is unfortunate considering he barely gives her the time of day! Throw Kenji Harima, the school delinquent with a crush on Tenma into the mix and you've got one twisted love triangle of unrequited proportions! Can love find the trio happiness before their attention-grabbing stunts end up hurting more than their egos?
Aside from having adorable character design and wonderful colours, Fruits Basket and School Rumble approach humour in the same style. There's a variety of characters and they all have bounds of energy. Both series have romance, but execute it differently. School Rumble initiates through love chasings, Fruits Basket brings it in subtly through character depth.
Fruits Basket and School Rumble are two romance-comedy-school life anime! They are both about love and misunderstandings, careless moments of one's school life and how to overcome minor problems (from being caught up in a funny romance trio, to being in a family where a hug might turn you into an animal!).
These series each have a slight romantic nature hidden behind piles of romance and a few deeper, more serious topics (although, the serious topics are more so in the latter School Rumble titles and OVAs).
Fruits basket. and School rumble. are both random funny romantic comedys. they both center around a girl who is very kind hearted and caring. each anime has a little romance in it School rumble. more then fruits basket. if you like fruits basket you should like school rumble too both amazing animes.
Hinamori Amu is a stylish punk rock girl who is liked and feared by her peers, but there's just one problem: she's actually a shy and quiet girl who can't seem to drop her self-fabricated facade! But when Amu finds three eggs in her bed, she had no idea her life would change forever. Out of the eggs pop Ran, Miki and Su, Amu's Guardian Charas; these being represent parts of Amu that she wishes she could be, even allowing Amu to transform into those parts at will! Now, with pressure from the other Guardians (including her crush, Hotori) to join their midst, dark sides of the psyche known as X Eggs to seal, and nefarious forces after a wish-granting egg known as the embryo, Amu's life has officially become more complicated!
I found these anime to be quite similar character-wise. Also, both of the storylines for these anime display values of being true to oneself and the value of displaying and being open with your feelings.
Amu (Shugo Chara!) and Tohru (Fruits Basket) are both girls who are determined and will never give up, no matter the circumstances. They each meet many different people and go through many different exeriences that will either make you laugh or sympathize with them.
I found Fruits Basket and Shugo Chara to both be in my top 5, top 3 even, animes. The way they roll fantasy (the transformations in both) into a light hearted, everyday way of life is truly loveable. You'll never get bored when watching the fun packed, romantic, comedic entertainment of both of these animes. When watching both of these you'll daydream about wanting to be part of their crazy, loveable worlds. There's so much about these that you'll love. No matter which one you've seen first or even if you haven't seen them yet - they're both a must see. Plus the moral behind both of the stories - about the hard life, school life, discrimination, treachery, home life, dreams, tragedies, romance, good laughs, and being who you want to be - is something that anyone and eveyone can relate to.
Both of the animes are a bit like "male harem" and have to do with the ability to switch personalities and such.
Keiichi Morisato is just your average college student until one day, fate interjects as he makes a call for take-out food. Unknown to him, he reaches the Goddess Help Line, and contacts a goddess named Belldandy, who grants him a wish. Thinking it to be a joke, Keiichi wishes for her to be his girlfriend 'forever'.
Both Fruits Basket and Ah! My Goddess show us that happiness is in the experiences you have together, not the goals at the end of the story. On the surface they seem like completely opposite series in every way, but under the superficial details the stories share common points. Both main characters find joy in ways they would have never imagined and grow into people they would have previously only dreamed of.
Both of these anime are about chaste love. Both involve a lot of supernatural themes, humorous situational comedy that stems from two different characters suddenly living together, and a cast full of well-thought-out characters. Both Belldandy and Tohru are quiet, loving characters that are well-meaning in everything they do. With a little drama thrown in for good measure, these two animes are both great watches.
While reading "The Universe of the Four Gods", best friends Miaka and Yui are mysteriously transported into a strange world full of magic and unfamiliar faces. As if their arrival was determined by fate, Miaka is revered as the Priestess of Suzaku, the savior of their warring country, who was destined to arrived in a flash of light, from a land far away. Betrayal, love, and heartache accompany this fantasy-filled tale of friendships torn apart, and hope that never fades.
Honestly, I'm kind of surprised this isn't a more popular recommendation for each other. Perhaps it's just a gut feeling one then. I found these two shows, not similar in plot, but very similar in their methods of creating character depth and development. Though they are both reverse harem shows- looking beyond the group of bishies that surround each heroine you see that they are much more than just eye candy for the shoujo audience. These two shows sport complex characters and relationships that if you appreciated in one you will also enjoy in the other.
Fushigi yugi and fruits basket go together really well.
They're both fantasy, and they both have the single female hero, who, with the help of her friends, discovers a world of magic, mystery, and curses.
The romance in both is very close, both heros have at least 2 love interests, a little hint of gender bending, and even some fight scenes in each one.
If you like one, I definatley reccomend the other!
The characters in Fruits Basket and Fushigi Yugi, with their different personalities, are unforgettable. Fruits Basket deals with the twelve animals of the zodiac and the curse placed upon them, while Fushigi Yugi is a story of a priestess who is trying to find the seven Celestial warriors to unlock the power to save Konan. The heroines of the series, Tohru (Fruits Basket) and Miaka (Fushigi Yugi), both have similar personalities to one another. Both series also have surprisingly sad moments and a dramatic plot line that explores the characters' pasts.
Nao and Uehara are two teens in an unlikely situation -- they've accidentally signed a lease for the same apartment! As time passes, they inevitably became a couple, and share the joys and hardships of living together day by day. Things take a turn for the worse when Nao forgets Uehara's 16th birthday! Can their relationship be saved? Or is this happy couple doomed for failure?
Both series revolve around the sometimes awkward and misread relationships of young people. While Fruits Basket is obviously more in-depth due to its longer format, Good Morning Call is definitely worth a watch as well for its short, sweet storyline.
What happens when teenagers are thrown into a turbulent high school setting? Relationship problems galore! Fruits Basket takes a more innocent turn on problems with relationships and is not the main focus of the series; however, Good Morning Call deals with relationship problems throughout its one episode of airing - it's a great show to watch if you do not have a great deal of time.
