If FLCL's bizarre mecha and cool character concepts are what kept you watching and left you bitter that it was all over, you may want to delve into Rah Xephon, which delivers an amazing combination of action, interesting characters, and complex plot.

Photon: The Idiot Adventures

Photon: The Idiot Adventures

A troublesome girl named Aun has stolen her village's holy item and has run away to marry a rock star; and because this sort of thing has happened before, her adopted brother Photon, a slightly clueless boy with superhuman strength, has been sent after her. Along the way he stumbles upon a naked rebel named Keyne (who, consequently, is being chased by a pervert who can’t seem to keep his clothes on); and Photon, not knowing the culture of the girl, accidentally engages himself to be married to her. Now, through a series of unfortunate events, the fate of the galaxy is now in the hands of Photon and his band of idiots!

These two series have a similar art style. Both are quite crazy at times, but not over the top really. Personally I find Photon to be a bit better. They both mock many stereotypes in animes.

Project A-Ko

Project A-Ko

A-ko is the brawn, B-ko is the brains, and C-ko is, well, C-ko. They'd make a great team, but A-ko and B-ko are rivals for C-ko's friendship, and if that wasn't confusing enough, there's an army of extra-planetary forces gunning for her too. The battle begins, though not without some comedy!

Project-Ako is quite possibly the original anime parody. It pokes fun at just about every aspect of anime. Though older and not quite as "zaney" as FLCL, it still is a great series worth watching.

Love Hina is a much tamer love story that occationally has seens that are obsurd enough to be like FLCL, including giant turtle robots. Imagine the crazyness of FLCL stretched to fit over 32 eppisodes instead of condensed into six.

Jubei-chan: The Ninja Girl

Jubei-chan: The Ninja Girl

Jiyu must put an end to the 300-year old feud between the samurai clans... before the feud puts an end to her.

Though it may be that both FLCL and Jubei-chan are parodies of totally different genres, that's what they both still are. Glorious, hilarious, good-looking parodies. FLCL can be also some other things, but what it at least is is parody. If you've ever seen mecha-animes like, say, Neon Genesis Evangelion :P , you can see it is true. And Jubei-chan is of course a parody of samurai-series like, say, Kenshin - Reminicense.
