Tenchi Muyo! and Fight! Spirit of the Sword both focus on a somewhat unfocused teenage boy as he has to accept the destiny handed to him. Spirit of the Sword is a great little OVA to watch if you enjoyed watching Tenchi fight with the Lighthawk sword... pretty similar concept.
In a post-apocalyptic future, mankind now lives alongside demons, spirits and other supernatural beings. Everyone is interested in coexistence, but every society has rotten apples. The bounty hunter group "Hyper Police" does its part to catch and contain criminals, and with employees such as the half-cat, half-human Natsuki and Batanen the werewolf, law-breakers better watch out.

While Hyper Police gets more time to get into the characters and the back story, both it and Fight! Spirit of the Sword are about defending humanity against demonic threats. Definitely fun to watch.
Linn Suzuki made her way to Tokyo in search of her elder brother but found trouble instead. Lovely Detective Miho Kuon comes to Linn's aid as she is accosted by thugs, and thus begins their adventures together. Linn must endure geeky magicians, fierce tree spirits, and her 100-year-old master all while trying to stay clothed! Full of action and fanservice, Kotetsu is a debacle of martial arts mayhem.

The central theme in both of these OVA's is the latent powers of the sword used by the protagonist. They're set in modern-day Japan and vary back and forth between the light-hearted humor and serious fighting. Neither F:SotS or Kotetsu are very well known, but both are worth a watch if you just want a quick dose of action.
