The Holy Grail War is a battle between seven magicians who each summon a mythical hero to fight for their cause. Shirou, a twice orphaned high school boy, had so little magical talent that his foster father did not bother teaching him about the war and its meaning. Thanks to that lack of foresight, Shirou finds himself in a bit of a pinch when he accidentally summons a hero of the strongest class, and is sucked into the fray. The Grail grants the winner any wish they have. But driven by an unyielding sense of justice and self-sacrifice, for what will Shirou fight?
Abandoned outside an orphanage when he was just a baby, Yuki is a boy with no idea where he came from or who he really is. Now in high school, the teen is plagued by odd dreams, death threats and an ability to see the negativity that dwells within people's hearts. One night after being lured into a trap, a mysterious and handsome man named Zess saves Yuki from being killed before disappearing into the night. Then, with the sudden arrival of his long-lost brother, the orphan finds himself pulled into a new world where he can not only learn about his powers and how to control them, but also becomes aware of the evils that lurk in the darkness. Can Yuki finally find the place he truly belongs, and just why is Zess so protective over the young boy?
Reincarnations, eternal battles that defy time, inseperable partners, normal people with magical powers, a touch of romance and dark undertones, these shows are a perfect pair. If you liked one, you will like the other.

With nowhere to go, he decides to stay with his rescuers and help them when needed, waiting for his memory to return. Though his courage, skill, and wisdom quickly gain him the villagers’ respect, the same traits soon land him in hot water with the local feudal lord. Not one to back away from injustice, the path he must follow will lead him to confront his enemies, and his hidden past.
Three years ago, mysterious portals opened, releasing terrifying monsters that decimated the world, and mankind, in only 7 days. Little is known of these creatures called Zillion of Enemy X - Z/X for short - except that they can be captured and used in battle with a special device. In the present, Asuka is a typical teen who lives in the peaceful city of Kobe, but his life changes forever when a mysterious shrine maiden hands him a Z/X capturing device, asking him to protect the world. And then, he runs across an injured Z/X angel...
Both of these anime deal with characters teaming up with beings who have special powers. Aside from this, other big similarities are the cast (main especially): a beautiful female teenager fixated on her goal; a selfless, slightly dumb male high school student who, if required, would go so far to protect his powerful female partner - or anyone else for that matter - with his body even if it meant his death (with such reckless action always to Saber's/Fierte's dismay and confusion); a little girl who, like them, also is fighting alongside a gigantic, frenzied being; and finally, a sweet girl who has a crush on the main guy already mentioned. Whenever these beings aren't fighting, they're invisible/hide in a special portable device and can reappear to battle at a moment's notice. The other might be worth a shot if you like any of what I listed.
