Both Ergo Proxy and GITS are cyber-punk masterpieces set in a distant future. The heroines have a unique perspective of the technologically-overwhelmed worlds they live in and try to cope with their jobs (both are cops) and feelings.
The comparison between Ghost in the Shell and Ergo Proxy is simple: both have futuristic sci-fi plots with a main character who questions the meaning behind their personal existence. Plus, EP has some comic relief mixed in, which is always a plus.
Both GitS and Ergo Proxy shows a vision of future world. Both are permeateswith misterys and action. But the main simillarity would be this that both tell a story of somebody who cand get along with existing order and feels a deep need to change. Either GitS or Ergo Proxy are also about badasses from government.
Ghost in the Shell and Ergo Proxy both share a similar cyberpunk theme altough they both follow different paths (I will not spoil it for you). The most similar thing in both Animes is the way many of the characters question themselves about their existence and possible humanity, the shows are all about psychological, futuristic and existencial plotlines with stunning visuals and soundtracks, you can't miss these masterpieces if enjoy the hole cyberpunk scene.
The series Ergo Proxy and Ghost in the Shell are set in a future type of environment. The focus on the changing technology is dark type of atmosphere is what give each of these series a distinct personality apart from others.
Futuristic and Cyberpunkish, 'Ergo Proxy' is in many senses similar to 'Ghost In The Shell'.
Both of them also go a little complicated by the end, and if you do not pay attention in the beginning, prepare your mind for a rough session of mindf*ck
If you like the female protag in either Ergo Proxy or Ghost in the Shell, I think that the other show would be of interest to you. Both protags question the meaning of their existence admist a swirl of technological politics.
altthough the storylines are noticeably different they are both scinece fiction stories that tackle themes around existentiallism. they are both very atmospheric and both are the very top of what the medium has to offer both are equally great.
GITS and Ergo Proxy are both quite heavy on a philosophical level. They both tell compelling stories set in a cyberpunk world, although Ergo Proxy is a dystopian, post-apocalyptia.
Both of these anime are excellent examples of cyberpunk done right and a must watch for fans of the genre. They both require that you pay good attention to pick up all the little details within.
Have you ever felt like the world would be a better place if certain people weren’t around? Such grim daydreams might occur when watching the dismal daily news, but on one fateful day, Light Yagami finds that these daydreams can become reality. By pure happenstance, he comes across a black notebook entitled "Death Note", whose text within states that whoever's name is written on its pages will die. With the aid of the death god Ryuk, Light takes it upon himself to rid the world of its corruption, ushering in a new era of purity one death at a time. But as Ryuk foretells, Light's actions will not go unchallenged...
Both of these anime are the type that I've come to love. They make you think the entire time, and tend to keep you guessing, wanting to figure it all out before they let you. They are excellent psychological thrillers, and there is a good bit of action in both. Definitely check out Ergo Proxy if you've seen Death Note, and vice-versa.
While the general setting isn't a post apocolyptic theme. They both have a gothic and dark feel to them. Full of lies, twists and turns in the plots that keeps you engaged from beginning to end. If you like dark, gothic anime like Ergo Proxy, then Death Note is for you. Not to mention the awards it's gotten.
Death Note and Ergo Proxy are excellent psychological thrillers that give the viewer a sense of understanding until the end of the series. There is a good bit of action in both with suspense and plot turns.
Both have a really creepy, supernatural, mystery feel. Both can be confusing, but everything comes together in the end very well.
These are both fast paced, mentally involving thrillers. Ergo Proxy slows down in the middle, but Death Note is longer and still keeps you on the edge of you seat the entire time. If you like Ergo Proxy, Death Note will knock your socks off.
I think death note and Ergo proxy are very similar in the dark atmosphere also the sense that you never quite know who is wrong and who s right.
Death Note is in a different genre, but both series are smart, very well written, and very exciting. Two of my favorites.
In the future, a devastating event known as Second Impact has destroyed Tokyo as we know it, giving rise to Tokyo III - a city under siege by mysterious lifeforms known only as Angels. Mankind's only line of defense are the Evangelions, a set man-made machines piloted by a trio of fourteen year-old teenagers, Rei, Shinji, and Asuka. The fate of Japan and the entire world now lie with these three children, though they might not have the power to save the most important thing of all: each other.
With a strikingly similar post-apocalyptic theme, aliens to judge Mankind, well developed characters with interesting introspective themes and with great flicks of mystery, suspense, action, of course science fiction and most of all, drama, I doubt the viewer who enjoys any of mentioned genres will be let down by neither Ergo Proxy or Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Both Anime, are Post-Apocaliptic Sci-Fi full off people drama. Both contains full load of philosophy and force to some "thinking", also contains such a complicated characters, but still shows humanity.
Both Anime contains references to Religion and Gods (Load of symbols) and also have confusing endings ^^'
But what I liked is fact that main characters from Ergo Proxy weren't as Emo as Shinji Ikari xD
Both of these anime's occur in a post apocalyptic environment, and both involve a lot of psycological/philisophical idea's.
Evangelion brings a new light to religion as we know it, taking the bible and turning it upside down, and ergo proxy takes numerous philisophical ideas and analyzes them within the show in comparision to the particualar episode.
If you enjoy an anime that makes you think, and you enjoyed this one, you will enjoy the other as well.
Both series are very dark and the main character in both animes have many problems.
There is also a strong female character in both series that sort off bosses the main male lead around and of course there is some humour in both, even though both of them focus more on the psychological aspects of fighting and traumatic pasts.
At first sight it might appear that NGE and Ergo Proxy are very different. For example, Ergo Proxy doesn´t have the mecha element and NGE is not as dark looking. However, if you watch a couple of episodes you will find a lot of similar elements. They both deal with profound topics, such as the meaning of life, the end of humanity, and complex human relations. There are many other commonalities: protected cities, angels/proxies, religious issues, philosophy, etc. Anyway, all of these elements make for two compelling animes, but the thing that really makes them worth watching is the fact that they both have a deep and interesting plot that will keep you hanging until the end.
The most striking resemblance between Ergo and Evangelion is the plot structure. Both of them start off as darkly themed sci-fi shows set in post-apocalyptic worlds, but, as expected of the genre, they each have a healthy dose of action and a certain amount of mystery.
In contrast to the beginnings, the endings to both of these series are far more intricate. If you enjoy puzzling out deep, symbolic meanings and piecing together various facets of a show's plot, then you will undoubtedly enjoy the finale of each of these shows. They are not light-hearted, thoughtless viewing experiences.
These series both deal with the question of god and existence while fighting to find the truth. These series both have several episodes near the end that aren't explained at all. These series are both post-apocolyptic and ask many of the same questiosn about reality.
In a dark future, the world is in ruin and everything is slowly crumbling away into dust. Humanity is almost extinct, while robots desperately seek out new parts to replace their rusting bodies. Their only hope for survival is to devour the one known as Casshern… or so they believe. Meanwhile, Casshern himself has lost all memory of his past. Why are these robots attacking him? Did he really kill the one known as Luna; the Sun that was called Moon? And why is he, alone, unaffected and undamaged by the ruin?
Both Ergo Proxy and Casshern Sins have robots that deal with a sense of identity in some way. They have a similar feel in that they take place in dark, post-apocalyptic worlds. I also find the characters Vincent Law and Casshern to be alike in their personalities. They both have lost their memories and have a similar purpose to find out what they are and why they exist.
They both include a main character who doesn't know his identity and searches for his truth and purpose. Both have a gloomy atmosphere around alot of ruin.
Both have this dark feel to it as the male leads searches for who they are or what they are.
The action in Casserns Sins focuses more on physical fight scenes that is fun to watch.
Ergo Proxy is just more visceral.
Both of these anime command a huge amount of respect from me. They both share a post-apocalyptic world with incredibly serious storylines in a melancholy setting. Each tackles deep philosophical questions (with some overlap between them) and evokes serious thought in the observer. I love both of them and have a difficult time seeing somebody enjoying one, but not the other.
I can't argue with this paring one bit. they are very similar in messing with your mind type of situation. this is the case, once you see it, trust me you can't un-see it.
They have a similar atmosphere,a dark post-apocalyptic world where hope is nowhere to be found and Casshern Sins has more psysical fights and Ergo Proxy is more of a mindfuck ride. They are both worth watching and you should give them a try!
It is the year 2029, and as many rush to embrace the changes that cybernetic technology bring to mankind, the seedier side of humanity is even quicker to take advantage of it. This series follows Public Peace Section 9, a government organization that plays behind the scenes to stop the worst of these criminals. Join Major Motoko Kusanagi and her team as they take you through an incredibly vivid world filled with plots of such depth and intrigue as is seldom seen.
Both Ergo Proxy and GITS: SAC are anime that have an element of action in them, but also focus on very intricate plot. The theme that links together these two series is that of existentialism, mainly focused through the female protagonists of both shows.
Another prominent shared theme running throughout both anime is that of the dystopian worlds they are both set in. While the episodes in GITS: SAC are more "stand alone" than those in Ergo Proxy, if you liked one, you should at least be interested in the other.
Being a lover of dark looking anime, I can not do anything less than recommend in a pretty strong way this seriesI can assure you that both of them will make you have that ...what da' heck is happening here? - feeling
Another characteristic they share is the attractive, detective-like, female leading person wich gets involved with everykind of underground info.
Also if you're in the human-cyborg-relation-in-a-future-world mood this pair is exactly what you are looking for! Both of them totally worth of your time!
Although Ergo Proxy has a slightly "darker" mood to it, both of those animes are similiar in many ways. Future of humanity which relies every aspect of its life on machines and AI. Lots of gun shooting, mysterious plot that gets you hooked before you realise it. If you liked one of them, you'll definetely like the other one.
Ergo proxy and GITS: SAC show a cyberpunk view of a futuristic society, fully recomended for cyberpunk lovers :D.The storylines have several similarities, for example the police environment, the woman main character ( Lil or the Major), the tech-invasive human interventions, etc.
Both of these are very clever series featuring a great mix of cyberpunk, sci-fi, action, mystery and philosophy. Besides, both have stunning female leads.
