Cat Soup is an extremely abstract, abnormal, and at times, disturbing adventure, from the director of Nadesico. This 30 minute OVA follows two kittens through what seems to be the underworld, as they search for one of their lost souls. Along the way, they encounter new (edible) friends, scary situations, and even the end of the world! Will these felines manage to return unscathed? Or more importantly, avoid becoming the main course for dinner? Confusion abounds in this quirky OVA.
No matter how ridiculous this recommendation may seem to be I could not find any show that was more similar to Cat Soup. Both of these animes are filled with blood and unjustified violence. Despite that, it is possible to consider them as a parable of the human nature and find a deeper meaning in both.
After their punishment game backfires, Keiichi, Mion, Rena, Satoko and Rika are forced to parade around the village in embarrassing costumes. Once they reach a fork in the road the club decide to visit the nearby abandoned village of Yagouchi, partly to show Keiichi and Rena around and partly to escape the stares of the villagers! When they arrive in Yagouchi, after hearing about the abandoned quarry over the hill Keiichi and Rena decide it would be fun to investigate. But Rika and Mion try to talk them out of it, as two people died there of unknown causes seven years previously. What happened at the quarry back then, and what exactly is 'the pit' that Rika keeps referring to?
Elfen Lied as well as Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni are both very violent series. For a small pause from the bloodshed and murders, Higurashi special and Elfen Lied OVA offer a little more relaxed depiction of events. The cheery chores and games among good friends are highlighted, although the dark athmosphere is still hovering in the background...
Guided by a star only they can see, a group of maidens known as HiMEs have begun to gather at Fuuka Academy. These young women have been endowed with dangerous supernatural powers that they can use to their heart's content, but there's a price: to wield them, they must put their most important thing on the line. Now, in the midst of school work and friendships, they find themselves caught in the midst of strange conspiracies seemingly related to the terrifying monsters that attack them. Is the power of the HiMEs strong enough to save themselves and the ones they love?
Right off the back in Elfen Lied and My-Hime horrible things happen or have happened to the main characters. Their struggle during the time of the series is how they have to deal with the hardships they have already faced and the challenges that they will face for the rest of their lives.my
There are some things that can only be said after death. Aided by a talking staff that thinks it is alive, Fumika delivers Shigofumi, the last words and feelings of the dead in the form of letters, to their addressees. Whether they are letters of apology, revenge, or simply a final farewell, she always brings them to their destination. Delivering Shigofumi is not always an easy job; as some people refuse to believe such things as letters from the dead are possible, while others are afraid of what these letters might contain. But the mail must go through; what the recipients decide to do with it afterwards is up to them.
