Synopsis:

Five years have passed since Goku and his friends defeated Piccolo Jr. and restored peace to the planet. Gohan - Goku's son - and a variety of good, bad, and morally ambiguous characters are back, and perpetually not ready for action! Aliens, androids, and magicians all hatch evil plots to destroy the world and it's up to Goku to save the Earth once more - that is, once he and his comrades train plentifully in preparation.  Enemies will become friends and power levels will rise to unimaginable levels, but even with the help of the legendary Dragon Balls and Shen Long will it be enough to save Earth from ultimate destruction?

Saiyuki

Saiyuki

In the mystical world of Shangri-la, demons and humans live side by side, watched over by a parthenon of ancient Chinese gods. But when normally-civilized demons start to go berserk, the gods require the services of Genjou Sanzo - a Buddhist priest with a magical gun, an evil-banishing scripture and a take-no-prisoners attitude. Aided by the ancient monkey god Son Goku, the half-demon Sha Gojyo and the demon exterminator Cho Hakkai, he sets off on a treacherous journey westward, with armies of demons, dark mages and angry gods all standing in his way...

DBZ and Saiyuki are both based on Xi You Ji. From there, the similarities end really. DBZ diverges into a long nonsensical journey of endless battles with aliens while Saiyuki wraps up its tour of duty in fifty episodes. The fighting in Saiyuki is much more believable and enjoyable as are the characters. A fan of DBZ would do well in watching this enjoyable production.

Shura no Toki: Age of Chaos

Shura no Toki: Age of Chaos

In Japan, legends tell of a strong clan of warriors who fought unarmed and walked the path of the undefeated. Since the Heian period, this clan known as the Shura helped shape and form history as we know it with the help of their legendary Mutsu Enmei-Ryuu style. Watch history unfold in this epic tale as the Shura and their ancestors witness the days of the swordfighter Musashi, fight with the one-eyed Jubei Yagyu and help influence the fall of the Shogunate and Shinsengumi; and most importantly, touch the hearts and minds of everyone they meet…

DeepDragon

The main characters have their calm, carefree, and sometimes clueless sides, but when they need to, they show that they are the strongest of their time.

Both anime focus on martial arts, though, while Shura no Toki focuses on real life martial arts, DBZ shows excellent martial arts of the fantasy variety.

Sonic X

Sonic X

Sonic and the gang are back in a brand new adventure, and this time its not only Dr. Robotnik that they have to worry about. As Sonic teams up with Knuckles, Tails, Amy, and Cream, they will need all the help they can get to counter the plans of Robotnik and Sonic's dark counterpart, Shadow The Hedgehog.

Yes, I know this sounds a little crazy, but think about it. Who has not loved DBZ at the same time as Sonic ? Does Super Sonic has the same awesomeness as Super Saiyan Goku ? Hell no. But is it cool ? Hell yeah.

A main character, always overpowering their enemies, and with lot of friends who help them through all their adventures. That's pretty much all of it.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Simon lives a boring life in the underground village of Jeeha, where his main job day in and day out is to dig tunnels. His close friend Kamina, however, longs to bust out of their oppressive existence and reach the surface world where open skies and adventure await! One day, during his usual digs, Simon discovers a robot with a big face buried amongst the rocks. No sooner has he shown Kamina his mysterious find when two beings from the surface crash land into Jeeha Village - one is a gun-toting woman calling herself Yoko and the other is a terrifying mecha piloted by a Beastman! Seeing their chance to escape village drudgery, Kamina rallies Simon and Yoko to defeat the invader using their new robot, Lagann. However, upon breaking out onto the surface world, Simon, Kamina, and Yoko encounter enemies more powerful than they could have envisioned. Their fight for adventure just turned into a war for the survival of the human race - will their lust for freedom hold out against such terrible odds?

Simply put, Gurren Lagann is the only anime I've ever watched that has a level of epicness that rivals that of dbz.  I'm not saying dbz was the best I'd seen, but it was certainly the most epic untill i saw Gurren Lagann.  Both are incredibly intense and make you want to punch someone in the face from sheer excitment.

Yu Yu Hakusho: The Movie

Yu Yu Hakusho: The Movie

When the childish Lord Koenma decided to take a vacation to Death Sea beach, he had no idea his plans would include his kidnapping at the hands of outlaw demons! A ransom was issued, but the price is high: bring the Golden Seal -- an artifact which bestows leadership of the underworld -- by midnight, or Koenma will be dropped in a pool of lava! Can the spirit detectives Yusuke, Botan and Kuwabara "borrow" the golden seal, save their friend and somehow manage to return the ransom before the King of the Underworld himself returns from a business trip?

Both of these animes are full of action. Tons of fighting, tough and goofy characters, and of course, energy beams!! Both of these are also Shonen Jump titles, so I'd recommend both to fans of SJ too.
