The tenth Detective Conan OVA: Kid in Trap Island (2010) is one of the more unique match-ups between Conan vs. Kid Kaito.  The key factors in this episode are the introduction of Ayumi, Genta, and Mitsuhiko, the Detective Boys in a scheme to capture the elusive magician/phantom thief.  This, plus the exploitation of the similarities in the Conan and Kaito franchises.  There is a lack of adult cast in this 25-minute offering, just Inspector Nakamori and his battalion of incompetent gem guardians and the handful of villains.  It's Kid's Night at the caper du jour.

Of course, Kid Kaito succeeds in leading the police force in the wrong direction.  Only Conan is not fooled, but Kaito makes a break for it and soars off in an escape which leads him into the trap set by the Detective Boys.  In the confusion of trying to capture Kid, trademark white top hat and coat is lost, leaving a felon who looks too much like Shinichi Kudo.  The team of Detective Boys and pseudo-Kudo battle through a wildlife refuge to stumble on a gang trying to cash in on insurance fraud over the theft of a fake gem.  Conan arrives to find four people on the good guy side mopping up on the bad blokes.

It's the twists in the plot that make the story.  The irony of Conan face to face with one who resembles his older self was a stretch, if not a different approach to creating another draw between boy detective and magical thief.  But the worst is the typical resolution that screams predictable.  Regular cast are given cameo roles, and the character development is weak.  The music/sound is not memorable.  With one more OVA planned, it makes one wonder whether by this time TMS Entertainment saw the Conan OVAs not worth the time, given the success of the Conan movies and the Magic File series under development at this time.  With few notable entries, new directions in the Conan enterprise would see the first ten Conan OVAs as projects of increasingly unimaginative work.

We'll see if this holds with the last Detective Conan OVA.
