Slam Dunk and Dear Boys have a lot in common in regards to genre and plot, but Slam Dunk is a bit more drawn out. Basketball games can sometimes take up to 5 episodes whereas Dear Boys is a bit more compact and shortened, but still full of suspense. Both series are basically based on a high school basketball team with limited members, who battle against many opponents to reach their goal. As from the artistic point of view, Slam Dunk has older styles, and Dear Boys is a bit more computerized. Dear Boys lack the same comic relief Slam Dunk provides and doesn't have as much character development as Slam Dunk though.
Dear Boys and Slam Dunk are both about basketball. If you liked one I assure you that you will like the other. They are great anime!!
So you are looking for more similiar animes? Than you have to watch the other one! Whether its Slam Dunk or Dear Boys, both anime are well plotted basketball series which make your hair stand with lots of amazing basketball tricks! Just make sure you don't try to do the impossible by copying them after watching... V(^.^)
Although the plot differs greatly, it's still worth watching. While Slam Dunk is still the best basketball anime out there Dear Boys isn't much worse either. If you enjoy watching highschool basketbal then both anime will be well worth of your time!
Both stories are about basketball. Though both of them are unique, they present the same kind of conflicts and story elements.
They were known as the 'Generation of Miracles' – five basketball prodigies who helped lead Teiko Middle School's basketball team to glory, defeating anyone who got in their way. But a mysterious rumor tells of a sixth, a phantom player who the five prodigies respected greatly. That boy is Tetsuya Kuroko, a freshman at Seirin High and the newest member of the basketball club. Alongside strong teammates such as Taiga Kagami, Kuroko will use his unique skills on the court to help the team defeat old rivals and make their way to the championships.

Both Dear Boys and Kuroko’s Basketball focus on a skilled basketball player who chooses to attend a school with a small basketball club. He wants to win, but cares more about the team as a whole than about winning as an individual. He commits himself to the wellbeing and improvement of the team, even though many may think he belongs in another, stronger club. The main character is also relatively small in both anime, especially considering they play a sport where height is key.
This shows have their differences, for sure. Kuroko’s skills are different and more unique than Aikawa’s. And I personally think Kuroko’s Basketball is the better anime on many counts. But the similarities are undeniable, so if you liked one, you should check out the other.
both of them in there own still have a new wild card that at first sight dont seem like much cause of there built but both bring a major upset to the game
Dear Boys and Kuroko´s Basketball are both about basketball. Though Kuroko´s Basketball is almost supernatural the way their passes and shots work both anime is still amazing. Prodigy or not, as long as you love basketball anyone can play. Great anime.
Both Anime has Interesting & Likeable Characters..as well as Anyoing Characters..has some similarities which is why..Worth Watching..Both Anime has Grove & Gives Want to Sport Vibe..Worth Watching

There was a time when humans dominated the game of basketball; but as the physically superior aliens came to the planet, the earthlings became obsolete. With the desire to regain their pride in the world of basketball, a millionaire (the founder of the league) gathered all of the best basketball players in the world to form an all-human team; and Hideyoshi, a street kid who makes a living hustling in basketball games, is one of them. With all of the obstacles and trials they have to face, will the humans finally be able to bring back the trophy to Earth?

Well both anime are about basketball and trying your best all the time. I find DB and BB very simmiliar because of the atmosphere around them. They may not be an excellent watch but it sure is enjoyable. Try it and you will know what I mean.

With a passion for the sport he inherited from his mother, Sora vows to her that he'll take top prize at a high school basketball tournament… but there's one problem. His new school's basketball club has turned into a hangout for delinquents! Will Sora's sheer tenacity and amazing three-point shooting change their minds and get the club up and running again?

the set up for both shows is so similar that at first I thought that "Ahiru" was a remake of "Hoop Days" > a group of delinquents being the basketball club > getting reformed by a talented short newbie!!
A young Kise tries to understand why some one like Kuroko has been made his mentor.
Seirin High School makes it into the semifinals of the Winter Cup.
