Both Deadman Wonderland and Mirai Nikki have a male protagonist that is thrown into a life or death situation and a female companion with a dark secret that somehow ties into the story. Beyond that both anime have a kind of dark setting that seem to push the protagonist to the borders of sanity at one point or another. If you like one im sure you will like the other.

Justaway Justaway says...

In both series the main character is pushed into a world of madness and where power is everything if you want to survive. In both animes there is a girl who seems innocent at first but in reality carries around on a heavy and very dark past.

The powers in those two may be diffrent, but they feel very similiar and they are also both quite dark, so if you liked one, you'll like the other.

funtoo2 funtoo2 says...

I definately agree that one would like Mirai Nikki TV if they've watched Deadman Wonderrland, and vice versa. Both animes have a young boy as the protagonist and a young girl who helps him. Both boys are "weaklings" and are pushed to the edge of sanity, while the girls are both somewhat insane and hiding some dark secret. If you like Psychological, Mindf*ck, Survival, High Stakes Games, Action, Horror, and Violence tagged animes, and loved either Mirai Nikki TV or Deadman Wonderland, then this is definately the right anime for you! :3

chii chii says...

Both anime are about a boy that gets tossed into a situation where he must fight for survival. A girl whom he doesn't know gets really close to him and will do pretty much anything to make sure he survives. Both have a good amount of action, violence, and blood. Check one out if you liked the other!

anosora anosora says...

A lot of blood, girl sidekicks. Death match. Ordinary, weak, crying protagonists. The girls are really strong. Supernatural involved.

Both series give off a "Creepy yet amazingly made anime" vibe.  Both are about a young teenage boy forced to get used to the fact they will be playing a game for their survival, as well as making allances along the way that might get broken.

TotalCode TotalCode says...

Both are bloody and graphic, but have an engaging plot that even the more squeamish watchers may enjoy

Atalea Atalea says...

In Deadman Wonderland and Mirai Nikki the main character obtains a power. Because of this power they end up in a survival game. They must defeat others with the same power in order to break free. In Mirai Nikki it is vital that the main character battles the others in order to change his world. In Deadman Wonderland they are being forced to battle to each other while they don't want to. They are trying to break free from the game, while in Mirai Nikki the main character plays along. Both anime have a lot of gore and a girl that has an innocent and dark side. The main characters are very weak and useless at the beginning but become stronger along the way.

MEsA1337 MEsA1337 says...

They got the almost the same action. They both got over powerd girls, lot of blood, super powers (kind of) and they are all school students. But i think Mirai Nikki is more of a romance story then Deadman Wounderland. If you like one of them, you should definitely watch the other one!

icesplitter99 icesplitter99 says...

both animes are having a male protagonist which is forced by someone (mirai nikki = God/ DW = Judgement )

to kill other humans with the same ability as themself.

In both storys is psycho-terror and gore as well as inhumanity and insanity a big point...

In these stories is always one girl which will protect the male head protagonist.

Thorndrop Thorndrop says...

Deadly 'games' in which characters face a great risk of death. Main characters Ganta and Yuki are similar in personality and are surrounded by people who cannot be trusted, for they may end up killing each other.

Faimojo Faimojo says...

These both animes are somewhat same as the lead character is wimpy and all while the female leads are psychos or are stronger than them and protect them.     Both the leads Ganta and Yuki, are stuck in a game/place.

Better watch the other if you like this one. :)

A dark theme running through the show and a protagonist down on their luck assisted by a mysterious girl.

I strongly agree both anime got crazy storyline, are soaked in violence, got main male characters that are in the beginning very weak and terrified and then becomes stronger (mentally), both female main characters are schizophrenic/(got)multiple personalities, and both stories are linked with some kind of survival game, if you like action, crazy stories and violence you probably should  watch both of them, 5/5

SURVIVAL GAAAAAAME. ...That is really the largest part of it. I peronally loved the high tension of both series.

IKindaLoveAnime IKindaLoveAnime says...

These two anime are VERY much alike. A protagonist who considers himself weak and cries a lot, a heroine with a dark secret, and it's all based on a survival game too.

Very similar in feeling. If you love one you'll love the other.

Fargo Fargo says...

Both of these anime show really depraved experiences and have plenty of shock value in both gore and psychological effect. The two mains both start as frightened, whiny boys thrown into very adult scenarios and are forced to grow up fast. Both have plenty of decent action and horrific suspense.

jessj4 jessj4 says...

Both very clever and brutal plots. I have always paired them together as very similar but both unique in my mind !

ali0889 ali0889 says...

Mirai Nikki and Deadman Wonderland remind me so much of each other.  Both have a weak male protagonist who is in way over his head when he is thrown into a life or death situation, and basically now has no control over his life. Both males are protected by girls who harbor a dark secret and each is full of gore. Mirai Nikki is alot more twisted in my opinion, and the anime went a lot of different ways, for me it was unpredictable until the last moment. Deadman Wonderland was a little predictable at times but will still pique your interest, if you like one you will like the other.

Underholy Underholy says...

Mirai Nikki still is better...

both give off the same feel/ atmosphere. they both have young male protagonists fighting to stay alive with the help of a young lady that wants to protect him.

ichighoul ichighoul says...

Both are fights to survive and fairly gruesome. Both main characters are boys with dark hair who are introduced to a setting where they have to fight to live. The main females in these animes are both really strange and eccentric, being experienced in the 'art' of killing. Neither characters are in a position to escape their situation, and both are close friends. If you like one anime, you'll like the other as well.

IchiRukiloove1 IchiRukiloove1 says...

Both are survival games! With a main male lead weak and useless. However, Ganta (DMW) says that way and shows little strength! Both blood and gore. Mirai Nikki is more romance. Personally I like Deadman Wonderland more because I think it has a better plot!

Feans Feans says...

I personally think that Deadman Wonderland and Marai Nikki resemble each other a lot. They both are very dark themed with a lot of blood and gore. They both have a protagonist who in the start is very innocent but slowly looses their insanity. Both protagonist is also supported of a girl character.

theSentinel theSentinel says...

Both of these animes have similar themes,  but that is not to say that they are the same.  They have fundamental differences in the tone, and direction of the story.

the driving force for my recommendation is that they both have epic stories, different, but epic.  Deadman wonderland is short, but there is more in the manga and will probably continue.  Mirai nikki is finished, and awesome.

the way that the story built up and twisted and then build up some more just in time for another twist was awesome.  Also the ending was not dissappointing so take that with you and go watch Mirai Nikki.

casualterror casualterror says...

Both have tons of gore and both main characters had no choice in the situation that they were thrown into. Both of the main characters are considered weak and have the female main character protect them.

HiddenNugget HiddenNugget says...

Both anime have main characters that are suddenly faced with a situation of life or death, accompanied by a girl with a dark secret.

Many people have noted the similarities here and I definitely agree. In both shows, the protagonists are thrown into brutal survival games and forced to make terrible choices. A dark atmosphere helps keep the suspence high as the characters are pushed to their limits. If you like exploring the darker side of human psychology, I think you'll find both shows to be quite thrilling.

If you like one you should check out the other.

SakoChan SakoChan says...

They are similar from many sides, or at least that's the impression I was left with. A bit gore, hard-to-understand crazy characters, the constant fear of death, and so on. You'll definitely like Mirai Nikki if you liked Deadman Wonderland, and you'll definitely like Deadman Wonderland if you liked Mirai Nikki.

Two very amazing anime in all.

These are both series that are "survival of the fittest" type of stories. Each is in a game to survive. Both protaganists are followed by a mysterious female lead. Neither series is shy about killing off characters and the pacing seems comparable between the two.

Aurora3500 Aurora3500 says...

Both are about two boys who get involved in life or death games, with a mysterious female that is obsessed with protecting them. Several of the other side characters show similarities to certain "counterparts" in the other series.

They both have a dark action packed psychological thriller coolness about them, with a boy and his weird girl sidekick tearing shit up.

RoyalOss RoyalOss says...

In Mirai Nikki and Deadman Wonderland both main characters get caught in a game about life and dead. The story differs as in Mirai Nikki one must become a God and in Deadman Wonderland they must survive in the sick games of the prison owner. Deadman Wonderland however is only half finished, for the full story you can continue with the manga.

treyj98 treyj98 says...

They feature girls that are mysterious and in love with the protagonist, who starts off weak and not a threat. They both also aren't shy of illing, and follow a same general pacing. If you like one I strongly suggest the other.

Both anime are excellent psychological animes with lots of gore. Mirai Nikki is definitely the better of the two as you feel a closer connection to the characters.

wonkuenoemos wonkuenoemos says...

Both of them have same plot where the protagonist forced to killing another person as long as he want survive. Psychologically intense.

Phyren Phyren says...

While they both have very different plots, both are about playing "a game," the main protagonists, the male ones, are rather.. weak, until about halfway the series, they man up. Each series is unique. Deadman Wonderland focusses on convicts who are forced to play in an "amusement park" to amuse regular people and Mirari Nikki is about people who are selected by "god," to play a game, they all own a "future diary," which is their phone. It is a game of life and death in which they all have to kill one another, though is it way more complicated than that. They are both amazing anime and I recommend them both!

RyanMinLwin RyanMinLwin says...

OmniscientAristocrat OmniscientAristocrat says...

They each had a similar weak minded protagonist, an unusual female with an unknown connection to the protagonist and plenty of violence.

Quadsar Quadsar says...

Both contain traces of the less popularized elements of horror - rather than resorting to cheap jumpscares and fear themes to provoke an imitation of horror, both series take a closer look at humanity's potential for depravity. Deadman Wonderland and Mirai Nikki are both psychological horror, without huge amounts of fear themes.

Mochacatisfine Mochacatisfine says...

Both of these series have a consistent dark theme. The main characters are followed by a girl that will do anything to protect them. These both have a lot of violence and action. Both plots have the main theme of survival. I think if you liked Shiro in Deadman you would love Yuno. Both characters have a lot in common. Give it a try I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Tokyo Ghoul

Tokyo Ghoul

thatotakugirl thatotakugirl says...

Tokyo Ghoul and Deadman Wonderland are similar because they feature a very normal main character whose fate is changed drastically by a bloody event. They both come upon deadly powers and make friends and enemies with similar powers while trying to fight their future. There is a lot of blood and gore in both animes and they have a similar hope and hopelessness vibe. Both protags can be tiresome but they must learn and grown if they hope to stay alive.

nightscape nightscape says...

The 2 main characters both seem rather weak in the beginning, but gradually grow much stronger - in both cases with the help and training of friends, who have the same kind of supernatural power.

Also relevant: lots of blood and gore, lack of romance, suppressive authorities.

theSentinel theSentinel says...

Both of these animes are very story rich, but furthermore they have grusome tales.  If you watch one and like it you HAVE to watch the other.

Vukor Vukor says...

Both series resolve around violence and blood, but surprisingly that's not the biggest similarity between these two series. That's because there's one more thing that they have in common, one other thing that bonds these two anime - they are both terrible anime adaptations of their respective source materials. So if you liked one of these two, then you might enjoy the other, also butchered, adaptation. My real recommendation here is that if you enjoyed at least one of these, then you should read its manga, because it's much better and after that possibly read the manga of the other one.

Tokyo Ghoul and Deadman Wonderland have the same kindof feeling to them. meaning that when you watch it, it will leave you disgusted but it will give you a craving for more and you just cant stop watching when you have started.

JantiyKanster JantiyKanster says...

In Deadman Wonderland and Tokyo Ghoul, the main protagonist (Ganta Igarashi, Deadman Wonderland) (Kaneki Ken, Tokyo Ghoul), once a normal boy/human gets thrown into a bloody reality unseen by the rest of the world. They soon find out that by a major event(shown in the first episode) they were given inhuman powers that they must learn to control.

Both main leads receive major character developments; From a seemingly useless coward into a powerful superhuman. The progess of this development somewhat differs with Ganta and Kaneki, Kaneki with a more intense development then Ganta's.

After seeing the more gruesome side of their world, the protagonist is saved by a female. Although these girls may seem polar opposites with comparison to each other; Shiro, an almost child-like, bubbly, carefree girl. Touka, a down-to-earth teen with a seemingly harsh attitude. Still they share their similarities. Both seemingly stronger than the main character, will do anything for their best friend, and not much is known about them(If you only watch the anime).

In both anime, it makes you feel sorry for the main characters(in my case). It introduces many interesting characters and leave plot holes that are just skimmed over, it might have been beacuse of the number of episodes each series had gotten.

Awadel Awadel says...

Both tell the story of a student, that one day their lifes change drastically. I think that is a good recommendation.

They both have a right amount of gore and blood and they're both psychological in a way. If you enjoyed Deadman Wonderland, I can tell you, you will love Tokyo Ghoul. Of course, vise versa. Miharu93 Miharu93 says...

both animes focus on the despair of the main male character (with lots of blood and gore) - in tokyo ghoul kaneki's transformation from human to not-so-human, then in deadman wonderland how ganta's wrongfully accused of mass murder

they both focus on the characters despair of their situation and how they go from whimpy boys into overcoming their problems either through fighting or having broken mentally - so if you enjoy a bit of hopelessness, despair and fear and lots of gore in your anime then either of these are a must watch

Drasticc Drasticc says...

Not for the faint of heart, these two anime both have incredible intense stories.

With a generous amount of blood and screaming involved they do have a lot of aspects similar to each other although they do have different plots to reveal. The chances are high that you like the other of you liked one.

Michajel Michajel says...

Main character is a young crybaby boy called Did-nothing-wrong. Something happens to him that rips him from his everyday calm life and he is now thrown into the world full of violence, blood and death.

He is also the only one of his kind (Kaneki - one eyed, Ganta - the only innocent prisoner in Wonderland) who  has something weird with his body. He has to gain power to fight and not fear of death or he loses his head.

Very similar animes, yet both are from very different place. I liked Deadman Wonderland more a bit, but I think Tokyo Ghoul is darker and more bloody.

Both are very gory, sad, dramatic and all characters have unique personalities as well as intricate relationships. Iv'e watched both and I reccomend this for anyone who likes action filled and suspensful as well as heart breaking animes. The plot twists are amzing!

RoyalOss RoyalOss says...

Both anime focus on a main male character which gets special powers forced upon himself. To fit in with the society they must learn to use their powers.

Both characters are weak (and quite annoying imo) at the start but suddenly get a lot stronger.

Tokyo Ghoul focuses on Ghouls hiding from humans or they will be shot/captured. Deadman Wonderland focuses about people with blood power which are send to jail. So both are outcasts.

Deadman Wonderland however never got a sequal so it is only half the story. Tokyo Ghoul appears to get a third season so most likely it will get a satisfying ending.

anxme anxme says...

These two anime give off a similar vibe and the branch of sin in deadman wonderland is similar to the ghouls kagune (at least I think that's what it was called, I apologize if that was wrong) They also both have quite a bit of death and violence so I mean there is that two.

DEADMAN WONDERLAND and Elfen Lied have numerous similiarities which make them ideal if you like one, yet still seem so different.

First, neither hold back on the gore and violence, if you against body parts been ripped haphazardly by innocent character stay well away. Both series feature a 'gifted' breed of human in Elfen Lied it's the Diclonius and in DEADMAN WONDERLAND it's the Branches of Sin. Both lead male character believe they know their past, but find that important parts have been forgotten.

Finally, they are both about trying to find something in a world where there is nothing but death, blood and destruction.

Anathemus Anathemus says...

EL and DW are fairly similar in terms of execution, theres a lot of violence, sick characters and disturbing scenes, both stories are constantly trying to shock the viewer, and sometimes this feels a bit too unrealistic in my opinion. There's also sci-fi supernatural abillities on both shows mixed with a bit of ecchi. From my opinion DW is much more exciting in terms of plot, fighting scenes and characters overall.

Llamamoe Llamamoe says...

Bloody and cruel scenes, people with mysterious powers experimented upon and treated cruelly, theme of a mysterious childhood friend of whom main character has lost memories.

Extremely similar character/story development... as in "Dear God these are extremely similar" or "Dejav... no wait, it was teh other anime!"... Both animes will end and you'll feel the urgent need to go read the manga (But in the good way, not the Damn-it!-These-guys-only made-the-anime-to-make-me-read-the-manga way). Gore gallore in both. Atalea Atalea says...

In Deadman Wonderland and Elfen Lied there are humans who have gained a certain power that can be used to kill. With this ability comes a lot of bloodshed, so if you're into gore, you will love them. Another similarity is the girl that seems innocent at first, but actually has a dark side. The main character has a history in which his beloved ones have been killed. What they don't know is that the girl with them played a big role in that event.

These anime have plenty of similarities. The top is a main character with a childish personality but the ability to kick enough ass to save her wimptastic male friend. Same twisted awesomeness as Mirai Nikki and Deadman wonderland.  Again the ending is a good one.  The voice acting of Elfen Lied pissed me off a bit.  However, the story was good, great actually.  If you like Mirai Nikki and DW then i rec this one as well.

mistery mistery says...

The main characters Lucy and Shiro share very similar aspects. Other than the characters, the plot is also very similar: an unknown virus causing the "branch of sin" vs. a mutation causing the development of "vectors" which are mainly elements to kill, the main characters having a loss of memory and personality, deep sentiments under apparent actions, a mystic atmosphere at times and finally, flying body parts and blood... For those who liked Elfen Lied, I certainly believe that Deadman Wonderland would be a great anime to watch. More than that, the male main character is more involved compared to that of Elfen Lied, and there are a couple of very cool, crazy and powerful characters who make the anime even better than it could have been.

The relationship between Ganta and Shiro of Deadman Wonderland can definitely be compared to that of and Nyu/Lucy and Khota. Lucy and Shiro are alike in many ways, having 2 different sides to them at times...cute and innocnet, and yet ruthless.

Both contain extreme violence and mass murder perpetrated by people who have gained some kind of super power through experimentation. Both have deep and complex backstories, in both cases with the male protagonist not having all their memories intact initially you will learn more about the characters as you progress through the show.

Are you looking for good action with elements of survival anime? I recommend you Btoom!/Deadman Wonderland.

Both shows share idea "What the hell am I doing here?! And why everyone is killing each other?! And why do I so?", are not "kawaii-desu-nee-chan" and they won't be uncensored untill Blu-Ray release.

KingArthur13th KingArthur13th says...

The characters involved in the series are rounded up and thrown into an arena in order for them to fight to the death. The only way for them to survive and gain their freedom is to kill the other players but along the way, the main characters gain friendships with their former foes.

Chitaka Chitaka says...

Both are very similar survival type anime where it's either kill or be killed for a bunch of people forced into the situation (prison or being dropped on this uninhabited island). Some characters have more reservations about killing than others, but most of them realize in both that if they don't they will die. Along with this both explore the question: is it justifiable to kill in the name of survival and/or self-preservation? The characters in both are also pretty decent (though I'm not really a fan of Ganta personally) and Himiko kind of reminds me of a later-series Shiro for some reason.

Both anime are extremely violent and brutal. Ganta and Ryouta want to survive in a dangerous, unfamiliar place. The only way to get out of this sick situation is either kill or be killed. Both series show what humans are capable of if you push them to their limits.

These two are definitely very similar. If you're looking for a thriller kill-or-be-killed arena, these two are it. They don't spare the blood either.

I'd recommend Deadman Wonderland to those who are more fantasy inclined.

I'd recommend Btooom! to people who have played strategy/war games before and like a more psychological thriller.

yuriblackwell12 yuriblackwell12 says...

While Btooom! uses bombs as weapons, Deadman Wonderland uses blood. While it doesn't sound very fastidious, it is pretty effective in this series.

This anime is full of action and the scenes are actually gruesomely good! The use of blood as a weapon is quite interesting as well. How it's used differs with each character. The various attacks are visually impressive. The show is a combination of action and horror. The setting is quite horrifying but there is cutting-edge action and plot twists here. What more could you ask for?

With Igarashi Ganta, Shiro, and the rest of the cast battling it out for survival, a crazy wonderland of a show awaits!

Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan

Over a century ago, mankind was devoured by giant beings of unknown intelligence and origin known as Titans – creatures that eat humans alive indiscriminately and for no apparent reason. The remaining population has managed to survive the last hundred years only by building a multi-walled city capable of keeping the Titans at bay, training military recruits to patrol the perimeter and gather intelligence about their mysterious foe. Eren and Mikasa have lived a relatively peaceful life behind the city's walls, but when a massive Titan appears, smashing the outer barrier and unleashing a wave of terror, their lives are brutally changed forever...

Although they are set in completely different time periods, Deadman Wonderland and Shingeki no Kyoujin both take place in violent worlds where people live on edge, in constant fear. If you like a tense story with moments of uneasy peace, these two shows will entertain you.

Agreed, I was going to reccomend this! Deadman Wonderland has very violent action and storyline, and very heart shattering just as attack on titan does. Don't let that make you believe they aren't good anime, because the violent touch is what adds up to the epicness of it all! Both a 9.5/10 in my book!

Both of these include the main character being a boy who has been thrown into a world of chaos and death for causes unknown. If you like the way one throws you into a world of emotional uncertainty and you never know what to expect (although in Attack on Titan its a little more unexpected) then you will certainly enjoy the other.

While I can't list all my reason because it would contain spoilers, these shows are very much alike in genre and the repective tags you would assign to them. They both have a blood and gore factor that is unique unto itself. Attack on Titan and Deadman Wonderland have different settings and circumstances that bring plot points into place but both share traumatizing experiences for the main character that, once past those events, hardens and strengthens the protagonist.

The atmosphere of the two animes are rather similar and they both portray a rather cynical view on human nature. GANTZ

GANTZ

Much to the annoyance of Kei, he and his childhood friend Kato have died, having been torn apart by a train. But rather than finding themselves at the gates of heaven, the duo materialize in a room full of strangers and a giant black sphere known as GANTZ. As if dying once wasn’t bad enough, the occupants of the room are then forced to embark on dangerous missions to kill strange aliens; missions that very few return from. angelyrical angelyrical says...

Both anime feature the main characters trapped in a reality where they either fight...  Or perish.  Both main characters face desperation and fight to survive.  Although Gantz is noticeably more explicit, it still possesses a resemblance to DW.

When I've watched the 2nd chapter I thought myself: "Damn! Its a survival game!"Both Gantz and Deadman Wonderland are about these, survive!Altough, Gantz has hard gore, while Deadman Wonderland has some gore parts censored. But you would like the issue at first sight!

whitelionV whitelionV says...

Although visually different, both are similar in having an unsuspecting regular boy pulled into a senseless blood bath, sick and screwed freak show. At first in DW you'll say "Hey this is like Elfen Lied... without the lolis" then you'll be like "Hey this is like Gantz... with out the mindless swearing ... nor the ecchi", then you'll be like "Welp, its like both of them, it even got a lil' ecchi...". Athough DW does explore a psychological aproach of the human rotten nature, its not as disgusting and deep as Gantz, but never the less it still got some heavy stuff.

Drasticc Drasticc says...

What can I say? Tragedy strikes in every episode.  The suspense runs high in every episode, with great plot twist from both animes.  Great watch.  Not for the weak hearted!

KuroOkami KuroOkami says...

Yes, they are graphic and gory, but I don't feel that either are doing it for shock value alone.  In bot stories, people are force into horrific life and death situations that they can't get out of.  DW deals with death row inmates forced to fight each other often to the death, and if you do manage to live on the losing side of the battle you get body parts removed as motivation.  GANTZ copies recently deceased people and force them to fight and kill aliens hiding in our world and if you don't you head explodes.  Getting past the gruesome nature of these two stories, I think they are both well thought out depictions of how people might react when placed in these kind of live and death scenarios.

I'm not going to go into too much detail, although both of the anime’s feature the same pressure applied to the characters: You've got to fight to live, or die trying. A common interest in both the animes is that the characters are all locked up in a sick society against their own will where they'll receive no mercy, so have fun!

Note: DMW is far more gruesome and gory than SAO. So if you don't appreciate guts and blood, give DMW a miss.

In 1955 era Japan, ten years after World War II caused countless to descend into poverty, six young men are transported to a special disciplinary school where countless horrors await them. Overseen by a sadistic, abusive guard and a perverted doctor who requires invasive "inspections," the school is the new home of these boys who committed petty and oft-necessary crimes. Reasons you might like Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin...

itoshiki94 itoshiki94 says...

From first sight, in Rainbow there are guys that are put on a kind of "prison", and inside it its like a hell, I mean, they have to pass sort of fearful and dispairing events. You would also find this in Deadman Wonderland, just that here is with a slightly comedy, fanservice and "shonen" things. If you want  survival, hard decisions, and some crucial moments, so you would like both of thems!=)

SadisticTendencies SadisticTendencies says...

Both Deadman Wonderland and Rainbow take place in a prison in which a group of people are horribly abused in various ways. Both shows also emphasize the virtue of friendship. In terms of storytelling and characterization, Rainbow is far superior, but if you liked one you might want to give the other a try.

Anathemus Anathemus says...

Deadman Wonderland has a futuristic setting while Rainbow is set in 1955 era Japan, DW has a lot of fighting while Rainbow is more of a heavy drama, but apart from those differences, they both feel very similar because all of the characters has a dramatic problematic background, we get to experience sadism, violence and sick stories on pretty much every character and altough it's interesting in the beggining, in both anime, it's start getting predictable and cliche. They're a good recommendation to each other

Airotia Airotia says...

The settings are kind of similar, outside of their levels of realism. Rainbow is historical fiction, taking place in real-world Japan just after WWII based on a man's real experiences. Deadman Wonderland, however, includes superpowers and takes place in a dsytopian future after massive earthquakes in Japan.

However, they both are about young men getting sent to prison, where they have to endure all sorts of cruelties and stick to their moral guns through it all.

Noriko Noriko says...

Even though Rainbow is realistic and longer to watch with a lot of side stories. The setting is kind of similar,in deadman wonderland, and in rainbow, prisoners are going trough constant beating and discrimination.

Also, they both have people who are doing violent things to the prisioners, although they are not supposed to.

The reason I am recommending this is because Rainbow reminded me of Deadman Wonderland for the first few episodes.

So if you enjoyed the blood and gore in DW, you'll enjoy Togainu just as much.

Both of these animes have a male main character who is falsely accused of murder. They are basically falsly accused because someone wants them to be in a life or death game. Still, if you enjoyed one, you probably will enjoy the other.
