For Pandy and Retro, waking up naked with amnesia wasn't the high point of their day. While going on a crime spree, the duo are captured and sent to the infamous Dead Leaves, a notorious prison where the baddest of the bad are sent. Near the ruins of an old and abandoned city, there is played a game simply known as "Otokoyo." It is said that when children play this game, they go missing one by one. Some say it is ghosts. Others say it is demons. But for Hikora, one thing is certain: his sister disappeared playing the game and he will do whatever it takes to find her, even if it means playing the game himself. He and seven others will do just that, all for their own reasons, and learn that rumors aren’t always fictitious. Escaping with their lives will become the main concern when this game of hide-and-seek turns deadly.
both movies are pretty violent and creepy... and very disturbing. Amazing graphics and animation styles! both have a strange connection......
Hana is a nine-year-old girl who lives in constant fear of her abusive family; Michiko is a sexy woman who has just done the unthinkable: broken out of the impenetrable Diamandra Penitentiary. After Hana is whisked away by Michiko, who claims to be her mother, the duo sets forth on a high octane ride towards freedom. In the streets of Brazil and aboard Michiko's motorcycle, Hana and Michiko will look for Hana's long lost father, try to learn to co-exist and get along together, and stay one step ahead of the police and afro-clad Atsuko.
Dead Leaves and Michiko to Hatchin admittedly have very different animation styles, but I think these will appeal to the same audiences (moreso Dead Leaves->Michiko, than the other way around). Breakouts from prison and wacky antics accompany both stories, and each has a similar flair and feel.
Nishi has been in love with Myon since he was 9 years old. They both had feelings for each other, but due to Nishi's cowardice their relationship never became more than friendship. Now, in the present, Nishi is 20 years old and aims to be a great manga artist; but he still loves Myon. After years of being apart they meet again, but she tells him that she's thinking of marrying her boyfriend. Nishi is still a coward so he accepts it and wishes her luck. While they're talking at her older sister's restaurant a pair of yakuza walk in looking for their father. One of the yakuza starts harassing Myon and out of anger Nishi chooses to finally take a stand -- but he is shot and dies. Now, in limbo, he chooses to live again; but will he really live any differently than before?
There aren't many overt similarities between Mind Game and Dead Leaves, (especially given the differences in pacing), but if you're looking for a beautifully stylistic anime movie that is far from ordinary, both will do. The art from each was absolutely gorgeouos, the stories (while slightly sparse) were entertaining, and the action scenes in Mind Game were as manic as anything from Dead Leaves.
In Japan, a team of scientists have created a medical breakthrough: a device that allows the wearer to enter the dreams of a patient, for the purpose of healing. The talented Paprika is a master at her profession, but complications have now appeared in the form of a “dream terrorist” – an unknown foe who inserts nightmares into the minds of those who use the device. The victims are swept up in a ghoulish parade of dolls, kitchen appliances, and musical animals, and are reduced to a vegetable state – or worse. Now, Paprika and the team of scientists must delve into the minds of those affected to figure out the source of the tampering before more people, including themselves, are damaged beyond repair.
Dead Leaves is an action movie with trippy animation to a point where it becomes surreal. And while Paprika is slightly less fast-paced (and has somewhat more of a plot), it is also a colourful movie with beautiful and bizarre animation.
A heartless and greedy group named Panther Claw is terrorizing the city, in hopes of achieving a device that will give them all the luxuries they desire. Panther Claw is too much for the Japanese police force to handle, but luckily a new hero has arrived: Cutie Honey! Honey Kisaragi is an android created by Professor Kisaragi, whom also claims to be her father. However, Cutie witnesses the death of her father and she swears revenge. With a touch of her collar, she is able to disguise herself as Cutie Honey - a fearless warrior fighting for love!
I think Re: Cutie Honey is a good recommendation and a close one to Dead Leaves... Action, comedy, ecchi and animation style are very good and both are in the same level. I'm very sure that if you liked Dead Leaves, you'd also like Re: Cutie Honey
