Things change one day when Kazuya wanders to the top of the library and discovers a lush botanical garden, and a beautiful, small, blonde-haired girl named Victorique who rarely leaves the building and is fascinated by unsolved mysteries. DarkEmerl123 DarkEmerl123 says...

Both series have a similar format, with a guy finding an intelligent girl in a library, and then they solve mysteries together. In Gosick, the case looks like it has a supernatural answer and it is just a lot of tricks, when in Dantalian no Shoka, it loks like a normal murder but it is supernatural. In other words, Dantalian no Shoka is like a supernatural version of Gosick.

Shiraiyuki Shiraiyuki says...

I think Dantalian no Shoka and Gosick are similar in more then one way.For example, the characters, the girls are both very smart, they're both bookworms too, and they look like dolls. The guys are the overprotective-type, the type that would sacrifice himself for the safety of the girl.

For short, if you like/liked one I'm sure you'll like the other.

MADwonderholic MADwonderholic says...

Gosick and Dantalian no Shoka have a very similar feel to them. They are both set in Europe, and the male lead finds their companion in a similar fashion. The female leads both are bookworms and possess a lot of knowledge. Dantalian no Shoka is more supernatural-based than Gosick but if you like one you'd definitely like the other.

DarkMagicianGirl DarkMagicianGirl says...

Gosick and Dantalian no shoka are really similair because of the girls the both love books, all kind of sweets and mysteries to solve. Both have boys who protect them. And are jelous of a the best girlfriend of the boys. If you loved gosickyou will love Dantalian no shoka and vice versa.

HasseRovdjur HasseRovdjur says...

There's a lot of similarites between these two shows. Setting-wise, both feature a guy that's the 'Watson' of the pair, and a mysterious and bibliophiliac waif of a girl dressed in gothic dresses and the setting is early 20th century Europe, albeit in different countries. Thematically, they are both mainly about mysteries, though of different kinds. To top it all off, they have very similar styles of animation and character designs.

If you liked either, you should check out the other. I find that they complement each other pretty well.

Suimin Suimin says...

When you watch Dantalian no Shoka, you immediately think of Gosick, or vice versa depending on which you've seen first. Both of these anime are about genius detective girls who like to read books, eat sweets, and wear gothic lolita outfits full time. There is also an overly kind male lead who spends his time with her. They both take place in Europe in the past. Both anime also deal with murder mysteries.

diclonius1 diclonius1 says...

Both series are quite similar. They're about a guy who meets a girl in a library and they start solving mysteries together. Even the main characters resemble one another. Both Victorique (Gosick) and Dalian (Dantalian no Shoka) love reading books, are tsunderes, act like babies and really like sweets. Dantalian is more supernatural though. If you liked one you'll surely like the other too.

pukahuntus pukahuntus says...

From the beggining the likeness of these 2 series is quite striking- whilst Dantalian no Shoka is slightly more super natural, I can summarise the storyline of both in 3 bullet points; BOY meets GIRL, GIRL likes books, BOY and GIRL solve mysterious mysteries. If you like either of these animes, I hereby entice you to watch the other: DO IT!

Nicknames Nicknames says...

Both anime are quite similar because they feature a loli tsundere who loves reading and solve mysteries along with a male partner who protects her, and both of them are set in Europe. The main difference between Gosick and Dantalian no Shoka is that the mysteries in Dantalian no Shoka are more supernatural while in Gosick is just a normal mystery. Anyway, if you like one you'll like the other one too.

eaper eaper says...

These series each follow an extremely smart loli and her partner around as they try to solve various mysteries with a touch of supernatural (well, a lot of supernatural in Dantalian). The lead females both also love books and sweets. Finally, each story takes place near WW2. If these things excite you, consider watching the other.

somepeoplefly somepeoplefly says...

Both Anime's have similar animation styles, and similar character types.

Both are set in a victorian era, with a small enigma of a girl and a boy/man that stumbles upon her. Both animes solve mysteries.

Although gosick does have a slightly supernatural element to it, Dantalian has more.

sven7 sven7 says...

The two shows share a lot of similarities from the style of story telling, to the characters, and overall intrigue of an original story. It is undeniably easy to tranistion from watching one to the other. Both stories have a way of pulling your curiosity deeper and deeper, both which have an unsympathetic style of explaining parts as the viewer desires, instead holding itself until the opportune moment.

mmag13 mmag13 says...

Well, as others have said, there are many similarities between these two anime.  In both Gosick and Dantalian no Shoka, the plot revolves around a young man who finds an analytical, bookworm of a girl in a library.  In both of these anime, the pair combine to solve various mysteries that pop up.  Dantalian no Shoka has more of a supernatural feel to it, but never the less, if you liked one, you should try the other.

Bind Bind says...

Both of the series share a similar setting where the protagonist meets a girl in a library. The storyline is also quite similar in that the protagonist ends up protecting her from the big bad.

bunnylovesanime bunnylovesanime says...

Both series feature a victorian era couple solving crimes/murders. Both feature a head strong girl who learns to trust and form a strong friendship with an adventurous slightly less head strong boy. Both stories feature beautiful scenery, great mysteries, and fantastic characters.

Grach Grach says...

The plot for both of these is strikingly similar - the newly arrived main character meets a girl who seems to know everything there is to know and spend their time reading, and eventually form a bond while solving mysteries with said girl. They also take place in a similar time period; shortly after the end of the First World War.

There are so few dissimilarities that transitioning from one to the other is easily done!

These are basically the same anime, although I prefer Gosick way more. The main characters are practically identical, it's actually quite funny how similar they are.

It's like I'm watching the same thing! Characters are very similar. Only exception is the age gap between the two main male characters. Like one, then you'll like the other.

But after Oz steps under a long-stopped clock and the hands finally move once more - thus fulfilling a mysterious prophecy - he is violently thrown into the legendary prison known as the Abyss by three cloaked intruders. However, there's a catch - in time, the human will be overcome by the Chain's power and then thrown into the deepest level of the Abyss. When Oz wakes up in the Abyss he is quickly attacked by hungry Chains, only to be saved by one named Alice - a Chain who appeared just before he was thrown into the prison. Together, the two make a contract and return to the real world, where they are enlisted into the Pandora organization - a group researching both the Abyss and the trio that threw Oz into it.  Along with members of Pandora, the duo searches to find Alice's lost memory fragments that are scattered throughout the world, to discover the secrets of the Abyss, and to determine if there's a way their contract can be broken without killing either Oz or Alice.

Both these series involve mystery and supernatural aspects. The main character solves a different mystery about every episode with the aid of a supernatural partner, who tends to serve as an ace up the sleve for apprehending the suspects in the end. Un-Go is more focused on the mysteries, though, while Dantalian no Shoka is more about the supernatural.

JerichoxBarrons JerichoxBarrons says...

Both of these anime are about mysteries and a pair who go around solving them. In Dantalian no Shoka there is Huey and Dalian, and in Un-Go there is Yuuki and Inga. :)

These series each focus around a set of mysteries that slowly begin to tie into one another. Furthermore, the main character in each is assisted by someone of a supernatural variety. If you like mixing the supernatural and mystery, these work well together.

Un-Go and Dantalian no Shoka are both series focusing on mystery.  In each, the main character is assisted by a sidekick with unusual powers.  So they don't go about solving the mystery in a conventional, straightfoward manner, but with the help of said abilities.  If you liked Un-Go, be sure to check out DnS (and vice versa).

Both anime aren't very much alike, but they do have a similar theme when it comes to certain characters.

As I was watching Chaika:Coffin Princess, I noticed something that reminded me of Dantalian No Shoka. Basically, both anime have a very similar theme. Both main girl characters wear mostly one color of clothes, and as the story progresses, you find out there are other girls with other color combinations that are equally as important and either have a similar mission or similar power. Both anime have a girl in complete Red, Black and White; and two out of three of the girls are both good guys, while the others are not so good. Also, each girl has at least one guardian that helps protect or fight with her.

I decided to watch Hitsugi no Chaika from the recommendations of Dantalian no Shoka. And yes, it is a very good anime.

Black Butler

Black Butler

In Victorian England it is commonplace for the rich and wealthy to have a staff, led by a head butler, to run their households; the Phantomhive Estate is no different. The young and demanding Count Ciel Phantomhive, child owner of a toy company, lives in the grand countryside manor. Sebastian is his head butler, and the epitome of perfection; he effortlessly and gracefully completes his day-to day chores and fixes the countless mistakes of the other employees. However, whilst on the outside all seems prim and proper, a more sinister secret lies just beneath the surface. Sebastian is in fact a demon bound by a contract with the young count; he will loyally serve and fight for him in return for his soul.
