What do Wolf's Rain and Cowboy Bebop have in common? Not much, really -- though the two share excellent stories and awesome animation, they are not of the same genre, not by a longshot. Wolf's Rain lacks the lightheartedness that could be found in some episodes of Cowboy Bebop, but packs a punch with its powerful story.

Zadillo Zadillo says...

A great show with a similar storytelling technique and also a wonderful Yoko Kanno score.... generally has a similar vibe and more mature and adult storytelling style.

Darkpenguin13 Darkpenguin13 says...

If you liked Cowboy Bebop, you'd also like Wolf's Rain because it was also made by the legendary Studio BONES. It has the same style and originality in the storyline, and you will get sucked into it almost as much as Cowboy Bebop.

Tyrinari Tyrinari says...

Wolf's Rain and Cowboy Bebop both have one very large similarity: a unique post apocalyptic setting, with a cast of very memorable characters. Just do not expect to get a replacement for Ed, she exists nowhere else.

Now I know that this doesnt make all that much sense but the feeling you get when a action filled moment hits or a deep dramatic shock wraps aroung you is next to none in both of these amazing shows. trust me.

This two shows have some kind similiar charm. Both give us vision of posible future for world and humans. They leave spectator with many teasers and melancholy.

Tired of hearing music only in the OP and ED of an anime and searching for something with good music throughout the episodes? Pick either of these and enjoy.

Spike777 Spike777 says...

Both Cowboy Bebop and Gun x Sword have a badass character; Van (Gun x Sword) is very similar to Spike (Bebop) in the sense of attitude and physical resemblance. In both anime, they want to face their past and kick some serious ass while doing it.

Adonia Adonia says...

Well... comparing Cowboy Bebop to Gun X Sword....

here you have two guys with bad hairstyles and somewhat aloof personalities going to the destructive ends of the earth for a pretty woman that no longer exists in their world.  Spike has a tight little space jet, Vann has a massive mecha named Dan and both have a futuristic cowboy style when they roam those vast praries.  Luckily, in the future, cowboys don't need horses... so everyone can walk properly without looking ridiculous.

DeathCrunch DeathCrunch says...

Both main characters are the cold silent type, solving problems with fighting prowess rather than words.

Both have an innate lazy streak and both will love no other than the one they each lost.

I can't believe there aren't more recommendations for this amazing anime... I signed up just to write this!

They're not that similar, but depending on what you love about Cowboy Bebop, you might just love Gun x Sword despite the differences.

Similar:

Same brooding main character who's obsessed with a dead woman. (If you love Spike you'll LOVE Van!)

Same futuristic feel.

PinkyIvan PinkyIvan says...

Episodic fun with badasses. That is what these anime are about. Althrough Gun x Sword gets a serious plot later on.

RG RG says...

Hell, for all we know, Van could be the reicarnation of Spie Spiegel.

That said, both shows offer taut action and stirring drama.

If you're the type who likes an "open series" anime, meaning that each episode is not a "to be continued" story, then you will like both Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Both center around an agency type group who carry out a new task in every other episode.

kmull kmull says...

If characters from anime series could be reincarnated, then CB and GITS:SAC provide a perfect example. I'm sure if Spike and Jet combined into a smart but reckless character, they'd be Batou; and if Ed were a machine, she'd definitely be a Tachikoma. CB has more comedy and GITS has more action, but both have great overall storylines... and honestly, who can resist Yoko Kanno soundtracks?

spiegel spiegel says...

These animes are both thought provoking, and character oriented. Each series has several stand alone episodes intertwined within the entire story arc. If you like getting to know the characters and becoming attached to them, you will love this series.

It's hard to describe what makes Read or Die TV and Cowboy Bebop different from most other anime, but this is one thing they have in common: they both have action (lots of awesome fighting scenes). If you're a fan of fighting scenes and stuff like that you should definitely watch this anime.

P.S. You should watch Read or Die before watching ROD TV, or at least before episode 14.

freakzilla freakzilla says...

ROD TV and Bebop have a very similar feeling to them. Taking any job to make some money, these people use their special skills to accomplish their missions. They both let us get a good look at the characters and add in some humor as well.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

The main characters in Cowboy Bebop and Read or Die take on jobs that will put them in the path of danger and are risking their lives on a daily basis. While Cowboy Bebop is set in the future, Read or Die deals with paper handling magic. The characters in the series have to deal with life throws at them and take the day one step at a time. There is a great deal of action and fighting scenes throughout each.

ehood ehood says...

Both contain characters whose jobs force them to risk their lives. I think the main factors that would attract one fan to the other would be the amazing fight scenes and the interstion relationships between the characters. Though in R.O.D the characters have more of a sense of Camaraderie both groups of people work in a team to try and make some cash.

Get Backers

Get Backers

Ban Midou and Ginji Amano are the Get Backers. With a 99 percent success rate in returning lost or stolen property to its original owners, they will do anything for the right price. TheBurningCrow TheBurningCrow says...

So in both series, the main characters are on a mission to make money, thing is, they never seem to get exactly what they want. At least in Get Backers they reach their goal most of the time, whereas in Bebop, some sort of mishap always happens, but you will like the great action scenes.

Bateau Bateau says...

GB and CB are fantastic shows. I highly recommend both if your lookin for some traditional good guy vs. bad guy storytelling with over the top action.

Merryberry Merryberry says...

Working with the constant knowledge of wondering where the next meal will be coming from as a result of being constantly broke, is perhaps the most common theme in these two series. And although in Cowboy other characters join the pair, the attention is held on the two of them, similiar to Getbackers. Either way, the artistic style and overall feel of these two series make them well worth watching.
