Gun x Sword

Gun x Sword

Evergreen would be a peaceful and prosperous place – if it wasn’t under siege by bandits. Most of the inhabitants have already been killed or driven off, but among the ones remaining is Wendy – a young girl who is intent on finding her kidnapped brother. As the outlaws bring their full arsenal to bear, including one of the dreaded Armor war-machines, the fate of Evergreen looks sealed. However, a slim hope appears in the form of the wanderer Van, who possesses extraordinary martial skills and even an Armor of his own. But Van has motives and goals of his own, which don’t necessarily involve saving besieged towns...

Both Cowboy Bebop and Gun x Sword have a badass character; Van (Gun x Sword) is very similar to Spike (Bebop) in the sense of attitude and physical resemblance. In both anime, they want to face their past and kick some serious ass while doing it.

Adonia

Well... comparing Cowboy Bebop to Gun X Sword....

here you have two guys with bad hairstyles and somewhat aloof personalities going to the destructive ends of the earth for a pretty woman that no longer exists in their world.  Spike has a tight little space jet, Vann has a massive mecha named Dan and both have a futuristic cowboy style when they roam those vast praries.  Luckily, in the future, cowboys don't need horses... so everyone can walk properly without looking ridiculous.

DeathCrunch

Both main characters are the cold silent type, solving problems with fighting prowess rather than words.

Both have an innate lazy streak and both will love no other than the one they each lost.

I can't believe there aren't more recommendations for this amazing anime... I signed up just to write this!

They're not that similar, but depending on what you love about Cowboy Bebop, you might just love Gun x Sword despite the differences.

Similar:

Same brooding main character who's obsessed with a dead woman. (If you love Spike you'll LOVE Van!)

Same futuristic feel.

PinkyIvan

Episodic fun with badasses. That is what these anime are about. Althrough Gun x Sword gets a serious plot later on.

RG

Hell, for all we know, Van could be the reicarnation of Spie Spiegel.

That said, both shows offer taut action and stirring drama.

Space Dandy

Space Dandy

Space Dandy is a space hunter, someone who is paid to search for new, undiscovered alien species. It's an industry where the prize goes to the person who finds aliens the fastest. Dandy searches unknown planets for strange beings with his companions, QT the worn-out robot and Meow from Betelgeuse. Meanwhile, they're being chased by minions of the Gogol Empire, for reasons that are still a mystery.

If you're looking for high paced action with a lot of comedy mixed in then Cowboy Bebop and Space Dandy should suit your needs. These are both shows about bounty hunters in space and both leads have anachronistic attitudes that would be better suited to some time in the past rather than the future. Using their unconventional attitudes they cruise around space trying to make ends meet while always seeming to have the worst luck. Both these shows also have something of an ensemble cast with most of the main characters each getting their time to shine in the spot light. Both these shows have great soundtracks as well, which really livens up the action.

Space Dandy is much more comedic than Bebop with nothing really meant to be taken seriously. Bebop on the other hand does delve into drama quite often and does it quite well.

If you're looking for unfortunate bounty hunters in space with lots of action and laughs then check out both of these titles.

CommanderKarasu

Silly bounty hunters in space trying to earn enough money to at least get themselves a decent meal. Cowboy Bebop delves into some drama while Space Dandy seems to be mainly comedic and nothing but nonsense, but both are from the same director so they do share a lot more similarities than differences. The charming characters are truly what make up the best of these shows.

HasseRovdjur

Both anime are about space travellers that often are in dire need of cash, and their main source of income is solving various jobs: bounty hunting in Bebop and searching for new extraterrestial life in Space Dandy.

Both are usually rather light-hearted and are very episodic, Dandy moreso, and most episodes are stand-alone. Cowboy Bebop has frequent forays into dramatic territory as well, while Dandy is almost always comedic.

Both anime has a similar aspect to sci-fi and space travel, though Dandy features aliens and intergalactic travel, while Bebop is not as advanced. Still, both are similar enough to warrant a recommendation.

Starletka

Space Dandy is like Cowboy Bebop on LSD.

Both series are episodic action comedies that follow the adventures of a bunch of bounty hunters in space. Since they both have the same director, even the atmospheres are similar.

jojovonjo

Space Dandy feels like a colection of all the stories that the director thought were too silly to make it into Bebop.

Camhadqr

Best way to describe it would be space dandy is like cowboy bebop if you took acid, so if you liked one of these anime you would like the other.

Both Cowboy Bebop and GITS: SAC have music by Yoko Kanno (she makes the best music). If you liked one for the music, try the other.  Th

If you're the type who likes an "open series" anime, meaning that each episode is not a "to be continued" story, then you will like both Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Both center around an agency type group who carry out a new task in every other episode.

kmull

If characters from anime series could be reincarnated, then CB and GITS:SAC provide a perfect example. I'm sure if Spike and Jet combined into a smart but reckless character, they'd be Batou; and if Ed were a machine, she'd definitely be a Tachikoma. CB has more comedy and GITS has more action, but both have great overall storylines... and honestly, who can resist Yoko Kanno soundtracks?

spiegel

These animes are both thought provoking, and character oriented. Each series has several stand alone episodes intertwined within the entire story arc. If you like getting to know the characters and becoming attached to them, you will love this series.

It's hard to describe what makes Read or Die TV and Cowboy Bebop different from most other anime, but this is one thing they have in common: they both have action (lots of awesome fighting scenes). If you're a fan of fighting scenes and stuff like that you should definitely watch this anime.

P.S. You should watch Read or Die before watching ROD TV, or at least before episode 14.

freakzilla

ROD TV and Bebop have a very similar feeling to them. Taking any job to make some money, these people use their special skills to accomplish their missions. They both let us get a good look at the characters and add in some humor as well.

wolfangel87

The main characters in Cowboy Bebop and Read or Die take on jobs that will put them in the path of danger and are risking their lives on a daily basis. While Cowboy Bebop is set in the future, Read or Die deals with paper handling magic. The characters in the series have to deal with life throws at them and take the day one step at a time. There is a great deal of action and fighting scenes throughout each.

ehood

Both contain characters whose jobs force them to risk their lives. I think the main factors that would attract one fan to the other would be the amazing fight scenes and the interstion relationships between the characters. Though in R.O.D the characters have more of a sense of Camaraderie both groups of people work in a team to try and make some cash.

Cowboy Bebop and Berserk have Lean-Mean-Fighting Machines with mysterious pasts, unknown futures and a present time that will lead us to understand both.

Spike777

The two main characters in Bebop and Berserk are similar in badassness, but Guts (Berserk) has more balls because he uses a big ass sword and doesn't give up. Both are awesome, and the stories also seem to be driven by facing your inner demons and past.

fizrox

These series are about men looking for his path in life, running away from the past and finally facing problems with unpredictable outcome. Both anime have not only highly enjoyable plot, but what's more important, they leave us with couple of thoughts regarding our own lifes.
