Reasons you might like Kanon (2006)...

Caraniel Caraniel says...

Both of these harem series are game conversions from 'Key', animated by 'KyoAni'. As such both series are very very pretty and extremely well-produced.

Clannad and Kanon center around a male high school student (Yuichi in Kanon, Tomoya in Clannad). They are similar in personality: both are quite sarcastic and at times, obnoxious, towards the girls they are surrounded with. There is also a female in each that is the main love interest for the male (Ayu in Kanon, Nagisa in Clannad); they are similar in character design and influence on the male. The plots are also similar; each has a number of arcs related to the girls' stories and how they affect the males' lives.

In short, both of these series are quite similar, and surely if you liked one you would like the other. If nothing else they are beautifully produced and a joy to watch.

Canal Canal says...

Both Kanon and Clannad are based on visual novels by Key and were animated by the same studio. The stories are somewhat similar: the male lead meets some girls and spends time with them while trying to help them with their problems, although sometimes he plays pranks on them.

Both anime have great animation and similar character designs and while there's some humour in the first few episodes, they get really sad near the end of each arc.

Lazuline Lazuline says...

Love and despair, bitter and sweet, and acceptance and denial; these are but a few of the recurring themes that form the foundation of Kanon and Clannad. From this foundation arises these two series as they tell the tale of one man whose destiny unfolds before him. Though similar in many ways, the respective heroes of Kanon and Clannad are still quite distinct from one another. As for the heroines, Kanon and Clannad both employ characters based on Moe characters. Interestingly, both series' heroines remain unique to each series. Lastly, the setting and the style of Kanon and Clannad are similar yet unique.

The paradoxical comparison between the two series is indeed seen in a myriad of ways. Yet, for viewers seeking satisfaction or perhaps heartwarming events or even events that can push one to tears, Kanon and Clannad are two sides of the coin. Enjoying one series consequently results in the enjoyment of the other.

smetske smetske says...

After watching Kanon 2006, I had an empty feeling, thinking I would never see an anime like it again. Clannad has done a wonderful job in proving myself wrong. Both series have quite some similarities. Such as the art style, the peaceful opening/ending theme, the sound in general, the cuteness of the girls, the different stories the characters have to tell and how they handle their problems. Both anime have a male lead who is surrounded by girls and their story is told in different story arcs. If you enjoyed watching Kanon 2006 or Clannad, the obvious next step would be to watch the other!

Bryth Bryth says...

Both Series deal with a male lead character helping different types of girls with problems they may have. The stories both give you a feel for the male character and the female character he is currently involved with.

xephon xephon says...

As many people before me have stated, Clannad and Kanon are similar in that they both revolve around a male lead and they both follow the same stile of developing one girl around the male lead then moving to the next. They both even look alike with some of the characters looking almost identical.

However there is one thing that makes the two series different. While kanon didn't have much humor and stayed serious through most of the arc's Clanned is quite funny with a lot of dry humor thrown into the story.

Thats not to say Clanned isn't serious hell if it wasn't for the humor the first arc of Clanned could have been more depressing the the first arc or kanon.

Bottom line is both are really good anime to watch and if you like one the other should be right up your ally.

Kilplow Kilplow says...

If you like Clannad, you'll surely like Kanon. Both series involve the main guy with a large group of girl friends. Not quite a harem anime because the guy is only really interested in one girl romantically. Both series of the same animation studio producing them, high production values, are school slice of life stories, a single character that excels at fighting, extreme amounts of comedy, some sad dramatic parts, crisp and interesting character designs, and a touch of the supernatural. Clannad and Kanon are entertaining whirlwinds of excitement and neither is to be missed.

charliechan charliechan says...

Both are about one kind hearted guy who makes lots of female friends who have either a very drepressing background or are facing hard times.

Each anime is set to open your hearts and make you cry by showing a slice of life in a emotional way.

Adamannen Adamannen says...

Clannad and Kanon (2006) were made by the same creators and thus resemble each in other in many aspects. They're both harem/romance anime with a touch of fantasy and humor as well as some slightly dramatic twists.

Another notable resemblance between the two are the considerably cuter than average girls which I think could very well serve as a definition for moe.

Darkkris Darkkris says...

Clannad and Kanon (2006) have very similar stories. They both are about a young man trying to find himself maybe in different ways, but both of the characters regardless are kind yougn men who seem a little me and straight forward. I woudl recommend highly watching this if you liked clannad.

TheVampireLastat TheVampireLastat says...

Hmm..what to say? Well starting off things, i loved these animes. I love heart wrenching dramas.Clannad,Kanon, and ef are some of the sadest animes i have yet stumbled apon. if you want your anime to rip into your emotions like i do, then all three of these will work for you. These three animes all have a wounderfull cast of charicters. You will fall in love with most if not all the charicters and there "arcs".

SaiAkuto SaiAkuto says...

Both Clannad and Kanon (2006) were mad by the same anime studio. They have therefore many similaritie. Either Clannad or Kanon tell a story of a boy who came back to the city when he used to life years ago. Now he has forgotten a lot of his past and both animes shows how he is exploring the past. Both of them are also really touching and at moments makes cry even a boy.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

In both Kanon 2006 and Clannad the main guy in each series is trying to help out all of the girls around him. He is also kind of a smart alick with a good sense of humor that says funny things to the people around him and can always make anyone laugh.

thedudave thedudave says...

Kanon and Clannad are both very similiar. First of all you'll became aware of the same drawing style, but also the romance dramatic storylines are very alike.

In Both Animes the Plot is of a very kind Highschool Student, who makes many connections to female students and until the half the viewer does not realise which girl the main character has really fallen for.

Also in both Storys some flashbacks happen because the main charakter has forgotten some really important things in the past.

Licious Licious says...

Clannad is made by the same people as Kanon (2006). It has the same harem set up at Kanon (2006) and supports its great animation with an equally great plot and character arcs.

serge17 serge17 says...

Beautiful story with specyfic characters. Real tear - jerker. If you looking for good (ecchi free) romance witch touching scenes you'll love this both animes. On top of that both anime have great graphics and music (same studio).

Uruziel Uruziel says...

Hmm best word should be "trilogy". That anime have "special" thing in storyline, it's making you felling curious about everything : main characters, their lifestyle, relations ships, you want to watch it more, and more. If you liked Clannad, you would also like Kanon 2006.

Sheex Sheex says...

This is probably the easiest rec I'll ever make. Both Kanon (2006) and Clannad are astounding works produced by Kyoto Animation, and the similarities in style and presentation between the two are enormous. In addition, both flaunt wonderful drama mixed with tinges of comedy and romance (Clannad moreso), which gives them a broad appeal. If you like one, the other is a 110% guaranteed hit.

fizrox fizrox says...

These two anime are really, really similar. Starting from characters, throug the plot and the dream theme, they are like siblings. In both you will find high school students' life filled with unusal events, a boy with many girlfriends all having feelings for him, and a mystery to be solved with much effort.

thedrummist thedrummist says...

Both of these series feature many of the same themes and concepts throughout their length, and are of similar length. If I'm not mistaken they're also both adapted by visual novels from Key and produced by Kyoto Animation. Both deeply involve the watcher in engaging stories, although I think that Clannad's story has a better effect after having played the visual novel. Kanon can still easily be viewed with no playing of the game and is a magnificient remake of the earlier version with very nice animation. Overall, if you liked the themes in one of these series, you'll love the other ^^

Niw Niw says...

To begin with the similarities, these series have male leads who can basically only be distinguished from each other by their hair colour. These guys then go on babbling about how bored they are, while simultaneously hanging out with several attractive girls who seem to take it naturally that this guy randomly starts asking them personal questions. Soon the main character has saved the lives and solved all the problems of these girls and he's officially the exalted hero of the universe.

If you seriously liked one, there's a high chance you'd like to watch the same thing again.

Kuroda Kuroda says...

Kanon and Clannad are both great anime based off of visual novels by Key. They both can pull off humor, drama, and romance in an amazing way.

llsektorll llsektorll says...

Nothing can really be said here other than if you liked one I can 100% guarantee you will like the other. Both were produced by the same company and are based on H-Games. Both are equally emotional animes and have endings that are superbly done. Clannad focuses more on the relationship of family and Kanon focuses more on friendship. Both animes have a budding love relationship so if you are one for romance or drama you will not be dissapointed.

Nocturnalgloria Nocturnalgloria says...

Clannad and Kanon are KyoAni's productions and it really shows. Following a formula in which a Highschool boy gets to interact and help a cast of girls, both have superb production values through and through. Comedy, romance and in Kanon's case a great dose of drama, these are anime that are very likely to captivate the same target audience.

Cfos Cfos says...

The core of both anime is a love story, but the actual episodes aren't only about the two "main characters". In both animes, the male main character is an outsider who is slowly making friends and helps them with their problems.

Merryberry Merryberry says...

There's something special about Kyoto Animation's work. With many different levels, it draws you into the series with it's beautiful animation, stunning soundtrack and heart wrenching storylines. Both Clannad and Kanon share this magical world created of similiar weaving stories that captivate the heart. They are a perfect combination making you walk every step of the way with their characters, feeling their emotions and listening to their thoughts. Truely remarkable and it's frightening just how similiar yet wonderfully different these two series are.

TropicalMist TropicalMist says...

Firstly, I watched Kanon before Clannad... but having watched both, I can see why people would think that both are similar to one another =)

Firstly, both have really strong female characters that each carry their own special personality traits.  And next, I really liked how they both delivered the ending (even though Clannad has a continuation).  They both presented the main female character to the audience at the beginning, developing their story as a side to all the others.  And finally at the end, she has her own debut and it really won me over at the end =)

I personally enjoyed Kanon's storytelling more, but the main lead in Clannad is definitely one in a million ^^ so definitely if you like one, you should try the other.

xkub4 xkub4 says...

At the start: Main male characters are similar, both are making jokes of girls araound em.

In animes there are some fantasy, magic and other things like that. There is romance and lots girls are around Tomoya and Yuichi.

Animes are created by same studio so there is similar animation, draw etc.

Daniactress Daniactress says...

I watched Clannad first, and now im on kanon 2006, they are so similar. i thought i would never find on like clannad again, but its like a contiuation.

certain characters look similar, and there is one character in each of the stories that make you want to cry so bad because of the fact that they are so special and they have a horrible, compelling story- still beautiful anyway. i didnt like Air though. too slow.

HanYouReal HanYouReal says...

They have sort of the same feeling in what the events are concerned. They both have a dose of mistery which is in some cases almost overlaping. Also the characters are very much alike and somethims makes you think you are watching the same anime. The graphics are very much alike and good by the way. Last but not least they are made by the same studio, which also made Air TV and Sola I think.

LLORAtheLLAMA LLORAtheLLAMA says...

Clannad and Kanon are the best of the harems that I've seen. Great plot, great characters, and great art are evident in both series. If you've seen one, then you should definitely check out the other!!

AnimeShadow999 AnimeShadow999 says...

If you liked Clannad or Kanon, you'd like the other because thier both pretty much the same show with minor differences.

Both feature one extra cool male lead, one stupidly cute female lead, awesome parent characters and a bunch of other cute girls all wanting the leads attention for different reasons.

Both shows deal in a mix of comedy and heavy drama, Clannad being the better in both, they guarantee tear jerking, heart warming and side splitting moments.

Both shows deal with 'dream sequences'.

The difference in these shows is the plot, while they do share the same set up (mini arcs all leading up to a final main arc) they differ obviously in story.

I won't say anything here story wise in either, but if you enjoyed one of these great titles, please, check out the other.

Omurqi Omurqi says...

Clannad and Kanon (2006) are adaptions of VNs made by Key that follow practically the same format: The main male character helping out the people around him with their problems. One more thing, if you liked Ayu or Fuuko in one of these shows, if it wasn't for their different obsessions (taiyaki and starfish), they would've been almost exact copies. While both shows offer some comic relief, Clannad is definitely heavier on the comedy part. If you enjoyed one of these, give the other a shot as well.

doomsday doomsday says...

Both shows are made by the same company, but that isn't the only reason. If you've seen one of these shows and then go to watch the other, you'll notice that the stories use many of the same plot devices. Also to add another bullet-point, they both are the same genre (duh).

Asraz Asraz says...

They re like the same anime with different characters and a different plot both follows the routes like in visual novel both synchronizes comedy with high doses of drama and a romantic high school life..

eaper eaper says...

Both of these series share many elements in common. The animation style is similar, the story and the romance has many similarities, and even many of the characters have similarities. Both being Key series, they have so much in common it is almost impossible to imagine someone being able to like one of these series and not the other.

zmalt zmalt says...

If you're looking for that little bit of fantasy mixed in with a romance that otherwise could happen, both Kanon (2006) and Clannad are for you. Fantastic characters and subplots within each.

Qplayer Qplayer says...

There is almost no reason that you would like one of these animes and completely dislike the other. The main similarities are obvious, both are based on Key dating sims, animated beautifully by Kyoto Animation, and have a profound emotional effect on the viewer.

starlightknight starlightknight says...

Both Kanon and Clannad were originally visual novels written by the studio KEY. Both of these series have touching stories that surround a male lead and several female friends.

While they are both harem anime by definition, they are done in a way that can be taken seriously; neither series is loaded with perversion and/or panty shots like many other harem anime such as Love Hina.

Instead, both of the series focus on developing their story lines; both have touching stories, high quality artwork, and great music. If you liked one, I think there is a good chance that you will enjoy the other as well.

Dekuguy Dekuguy says...

Clannad and Kanon is made in an awsome way. They are both from the same maker, but the storyline of these animes makes it the best. Clannad and Kanon makes an ordinary school day, look like a sad daydream....

Similar in story, art and style of work. Also made by the same group around the same time and is just a beautiful as this one.

Both series are excellent adaptions of the key series games with animation by Kyoto. And have great balance of romance, drama, comedy, and overall being emotional. Really if you enjoyed Clannad, or Kanon [2006] I strongly urge you to try the other series.

Both anime are really about love and friendship. Both have a main character wich is a boy, the boy makes friends ( most of them girls ) and helps them with theyre problems. and falls in love with one of the girls.

Kanon is a very simular anime made by the same company. It has a story simular to clannad and the animation is top quality like clannad it touches on many of the same subject and i am sure if you enjoyed on you will enjoy the other. The animation is simular and the story stucture is almost identicle the main charcter are both sracastic and with the mean ways they tease certian girls it brings gout of laughter to many

Larkawolfgirl Larkawolfgirl says...

Both of these shows are in segments about a different girl that the main guy knows. Both have mysterious/magical things that happen to them. One of the segments in Kanon with Ayu and the segment of Clannad about Fuko are very similar. In both shows there is this love triangle vibe from all of the girls. And lastly the animation is quite similar as well.

Jsrf38 Jsrf38 says...

Both Clannad and Kanon are similar in story, so if you enjoyed one, you may enjoy the other! Kanon 2006 is about a boy who has lost his memory. He returns to a town after seven years to live with his aunt and cousin. In Clannad, the story is about a boy who meets a girl on his walk to school. Something about the girl makes the boy want to tak to this girl. After this, the two highschoolers live to meet many friends, but there may be many obsticles in their paths. In a way, the two stories share very similar qualities. Not only do they share similar qualities, but they are both created by Key and published by Kyoto Animations. Both stories contain comedy, friendship, romance, and just about everything. If you just love, or even like one of these two animes, you will most likely just love the other!

Kanon i watched first, and when it ended i was convinced that i was never gonna watch an anime which would move me in the same way. When it ended i couldnt tell whether i was sad becuase of the emotion in the story, or just because it was over. I watched a few other Animes of similar themes, and still none of them compared to Kanon at all. Then i saw Clannad, and didnt get what all the hype was about. THEN, i watched Clannad afterstory, and not only was it the best Anime ive ever seen, it also made the first series of Clannad seem worthy of all the hype. If you enjoyed any of these 3 animes, you'd be seriously missing out not to watch the others.

Both these animes were written by key and come from kyoto animation studios. The lead characters - particually the male protagonist's; are very simalar in personality. Both these animes involve blossoming romance in school. Every character is quirky in their own signature way, and a story to go with each of them.

Instead of repeating what all other recommendations are saying I'll say this: If you fail to agree with them you have to be mentally challenged. Both are about gaining something and having it ripped away thus very emotional at times and extremely good.

As mentioned by many others, both Kanon and Clannad are adapted by Kyoto Animation from visual novels by Key. As a result, the series share a similar art style and feel to them. Both stories revolve around a male lead (Yuuichi in Kanon and Tomoya in Clannad) as he interacts with, and helps, the females around him. Kanon has a stronger supernatural element to it, and Clannad has a bit more humor, but I feel that both of these are well dramas, and that those who enjoyed one would also enjoy the other.

AutenticAnimeAddict AutenticAnimeAddict says...

Both Clannad and Kanon revolve around a mysterious world and somehow have the same feelings...seriousness, happiness, anguish, love...it makes you feel so homey. LOVE! (Although I personally love Clannad more..)

Mareeck Mareeck says...

The first thing i thought after watching Kanon(2006) was that was like a little brother of Clannad. I mean that it had everything Clannad had but in smaller dose. Clannad has 2 series so it's 2 times more episodes. The main hero in Kanon is very similar to Okazaki in Clannad, he looks similar, his jokes are funny, he's also surrounded by many girls.

After all I would say that Kanon was a little less funny and a little less dramatic but still it's a must watch.

P.S.: The opening and ending aree similar as well. Both animes had almost identical entries before opening (in Clannad it was the girl and the robot and in Kanon it was the talking about a dream)..

Clannad is awsome, sweet and its a good anime. One of the best in my mind. Its an anime you havve to watch..... In that case, if you like Clannad - then Kanon is something 4 you! (2006)..... Its so alike that its almost scary.. Both is great animes!!

Clannad and Kanon (2006), have a very similar feel towards eachother. Both anime focus on the lives of a teenage boy and the various girls around him. He has to chose who he would like to be with, and who he will leave behind. Although these anime mainly focus on school life and romance, they both have a supernatural theme to them in one way or another. For example, both of them have a girl, who they view as a little sister or similar, and get strongly attatched to, dissapear. Also, including After Story, there are even more supernatural themes. If you loved one anime, you are sure to thoroughly enjoy the other one also.

These are two absolutely fantastic animes. Both are romance dramas that start out light hearted and progress into dramas as time passes. They both posses a bit of a harem feel but both main characters clearly choose thier woman in both animes, unlike most harems. Later in the series (After Story, second half of Kanon) they take on a subtle supernatural aspect. You will absolutely fall in love with the characters and the storys are defined and very well done. be SURE to watch After Story, part two of Clannad. If you love a fun, emotional, love story that is more than just heart break, watch them both!

Razernut Razernut says...

Kanon and Clannad both are Key productions, which is in general an awesome studio, that's why they both are much alike, even though I strongly prefer Clannad over Kanon. They both focus around a guy and many different girls with totally different personalities. That's why they are so fun, because it is nice to see those different persons all acting together.

Both, Clannad and Kanon, also have very dramatic aspects to them, especially the second season of Clannad (After Story). But they both manage to keep drama and comedy in perfect relation to each other, while delivering the feelings of the characters like no other anime in this genre.

The art style is pretty much alike, which is to be expected when published by the same studio.

All in all I can highly recommend both of them and if you like one of them you will certainly like the other as well.

Utomneian Utomneian says...

Kanon was Key/Visual Arts first Visual Novel, and i have reason to believe that Clannad had some rehashed character ideas, though not all the way, but if you analyze them all, you'll find some similar traits.  Kanon is't as long as Clannad (that is, if you're counting After Story), but it still has an interesting plot arc.  even though their supernatural plot devices are different, both Kanon and Clannad have some sort of magical forces involved in them, except in Kanon, this magic is a bit more aware and Clannad's is more subtle, like the Illusionary world.  i'm afraid i can't say much more without spoiling either animes, so go and enjoy  :)

Honestly? It's scarily similar. This isn't a bad thing because if you really enjoyed either Kanon or Clannad, you would want to find something along a similar line and this fits the bill perfectly. The good ole traits of KyoAni, great animation physics, awesome lighting, and choosing directors and storyboarders to create awesome shows. These two are no exception. Clannad and Kanon are both really touching anime series. Both series will make you want to cry and have really likeable female characters. Kanon has a little bit more supernatural elements to it, but if you like one I think you will like the other.

TallyCrow TallyCrow says...

Yes, they are made by the same people, and Kanon was first made.

They are both about a guy who helps out multiple girl characters.

Both anime's make you cry but also make you laugh.

In conclusion, if you like one, you will like the other.

zetazach zetazach says...

Both anime are about a male protagonist who assists ladies with their problems. Also, both protagonists find love through their experiences. The series themselves both have the same tone, comedic but also melancholic.

AdalaBijan AdalaBijan says...

I've heard a lot of good things about Clannad but I already watched & loved Kanon (2006) by then so I find them a bit too similar. However if you like one you'll probably like the other

HungryShinobu HungryShinobu says...

Kanon is pretty sismmillar except there is probably less feels, but the levels of great interaction and comedy are about the same, having the school life element with some more mysterious background story that all the Key adaptations tend to have. Kanon does have some feels moments but not as many as Clannad, generally feeling more light hearted, only getting a little emotional towards the end but its all good. If you have seen one of these two but not the other I highly reccomend that you watch the other one (if you havent seen Clannad then make sure to watch After Story too, S1 of Clannad isnt as good as Kanon but After story surpases it).

Expect both shows to have amazing characters that will be developed, that you'll take your time to care about, and that you'll finally cry for when they leave the show.

Created by the same company, while both animes deal with different situations, they're still very similar in its style.

I really didn't understand this pairing. If you don't get it either, then trust me- you need to finish Angel Beats! first. If you're starting there and liked the ending, you should watch Clannad. If you're coming the other direction, please trust me and watch all of Angel Beats! Either way, you'll be glad you did.

These two shows are mostly character-driven, which means they both have really great characters in them.  The development of characters is key to both Angel Beats and Clannad, making the two of them a perfect compliment to each other.

While Angel Beats starts off violent, much unlike Clannad, if you focus on the characters you uncover a story similar to that of Clannad. Both shows hold a special place in my heart, the endings of both are each a masterpiece in their own right. If you liked one, watch the other.

Licious Licious says...

There is one thing that ties Angel Beats! and Clannad together and it is the strong emotion that both shows release.

There is a very similar vibe that the two shows give off when they are trying to be dramatic, and this is because Angel Beats! writer, Jun Maeda, composed the music for both shows and did a good amount of writing for the Clannad visual novel.

While Angel Beats! is a more action oriented anime, and Clannad focuses on drama comedy if you are a fan of the emotional scenes in one you’ll find your self open to trying the other.

There is an emotional connection to the characters in both Clannad and Angel Beats.  While watching each series the viewer is drawn into the lives of the characters themselves through the good and bad times.  Trying to fight the imperfections that exist in each of their worlds and strive to overcome the obstacles standing in their paths.  Finding love as well as friendship and experiencing loads of dramatic moments that will leave you wanting more at the end.

The animation styles of Angel Beats! and Clannad are similar in my opinion. In addition, both anime's main topic is the afterlife, thus they have quite a few sentimental moments.

theazariah theazariah says...

These are both masterpieces from Maeda Jun. Since it's the same writer, a lot of the same themes appear: family, graduation, growing up (or not growing up), etc.

It's very interesting to actually see nuances of some of the characters in the other anime.

The main difference in the two is that Angel Beats is mostly a male cast, while Clannad is mostly a female cast.

Clannad is more of a love and understanding story while Angel Beats is more of a life and understanding story. Either way, they both have a very similar sense of humour and they both have the concept of "forming a club to fulfill our dreams."

galacticdude7 galacticdude7 says...

If you liked Angel Beats! or Clannad, you will like the other series because they both deal with characters with sad pasts, and both series can convey emotions quite well.

SadisticTendencies SadisticTendencies says...

Cutesy character designs and a storyline that involves action, comedy and romance. That sentence would be a fairly good description of Clannad, but it could just as well describe Angel Beats! They share many similarities, like the one mentioned above, but they reserve plenty of screen time to feature melodrama so profound that it comes off as cheesy. Regardless of this, these are two enjoyable shows. IF you like one of them, you should like the other just as much.

Morwen Morwen says...

Both of these shows are written by the same group and share a lot of the same themes. They both deal with the need to move on from the trauma in your past and the importance of the relationships you have with other people. Clannad's story doesn't quite flow together as well as Angel Beats' does--I think Angel Beats hits the perfect sense of pacing and focus on romance--but they're both clearly the work of an author coming into his own. Both definitely deserve a look.

Nighstar Nighstar says...

Both take place within a school-like enviroment, despite the fact there are actually enemies in Angel Beats! and none in Clannad, thevisual styles are typically similar.

All in all they can't really be considered complementory and i don't recommend watching both of them at the same time as they are just that similar, but if you really want to follow and see more anime like Angel Beats! then Clannad is one of your best bets and vice versa ofcourse.

This masterpiece (Angel Beats!) has all right to join the Key animation bundle being Clannad, Air & Kanon (2006). And the tear jerking magic they produce. On top of all that they added something extra this time, some comedy and action.

Due to the fact that these two anime were made by Key(collaborated) as well as the same producer from clannad, kanon and Air i would definately reccommend this one for those who love real tearjerkers. With this i mean After story :)

Jonnoiscooler Jonnoiscooler says...

Clannad is somewhat similair to Angel Beats. Even though it doesn't have life after death concepts, and badass fight scenes, it is still mysterious and supernatural in the same way Angel Beats is. It's hilarios at moments, and tear jerking in plenty of others, and I thouroghly enjoyed it. Make sure you continue to watch the After story, as it answers all of the non answered ones in the first 2 seasons. And you won't be let down by the length of clannad, theres 50 (!!!!!!) Episodes, so nice and long.

Reasons you might like Air...

Himitsu Himitsu says...

Air TV and Clannad undoubtedly have similar styles. These Kyoto Animation productions have extraordinary artwork. Both series begin quite nicely but there's more to them than meets the eye. In addition, there seems to be an overrepresentation of "Moe" factors; the casts of characters have comparable personalities (I'm not saying they're the same). The main characters are quite indifferent to life, while the main girl is clumsy and naive.

Uniflame Uniflame says...

It may sound cliche, but since both series are from the same makers and have the same mystery about them chances are high that you will like both: Air and Clannad!

thariinye thariinye says...

It is relatively obvious why you would also like Clannad if you liked Air: Not only do they have the same original source creators and animators, they both deal with roughly the same subject matter, being some of the best 'dating-sim' adaptations there are. Of the Key-Kyoto Triad (Air, Kanon 2006, and Clannad) Air has the most plot-driven story, Kanon the best slice-of-life and moe, and Clannad currently has the best comedy.

Kilplow Kilplow says...

If you like Clannad, you'll also like Air. Both series involve a guy with many girl friends. They differ with the main guy character in Air, not being in school, while Clannad is a strictly school comedy, though in both the guy is primarily focused one a single girl--Air tends to abandon its characters more when their arcs are complete. Kyoto animation does both series, and both are extremely funny--the two pet/mascots are nearly identical, though Air's gets more screen time and therefore is more funny. Finally, Air and Clannad both have very sad parts, as well as the comedy and happy times. A fan of one, is almost certainly a fan of both.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

If a comedic drama mixed with a heart-wrenching story is what you are looking for Clannad and Air are the series you will want to check out. They both have the same source directors with an added bonus of similar overall plots. There is an exception in that Clannad has more comedy in it whereas Air is more drama related.

tenkenX6 tenkenX6 says...

First of all, both Air and Clannad are very down to earth, mellow romance series, where the main male character interacts with multiple girls. Secondly, both series are done by the same animation studio, so the artwork and character designs are very similar. And lastly, both series can be considered as "slice of life" anime shows. They both portray events, activities, and things that any person can encounter in their everyday lives. So, in a sense, it feels like you're watching a generalized animated version of real life situations.

serge17 serge17 says...

This anime are similar mostly because of main male characters. Both of them are generally bored with life and doesn't take their future, or anything else seriously....untill....well you have to see. I can say that: If you enjoyed watching one of this anime - you'll won't regret seeing another :)

JeadiX JeadiX says...

Clannad and Air are both beautiful animes. Both are about a slightly introverted guy that meets a rather strange girl with no friends. They are both sad stories filled with a beauty of mystery and incredible wonder. The animes are also from the same studio and have identical animation art. Enjoyment is guaranteed when watching either of these animes if you enjoyed the other.

cassiesheepgirl cassiesheepgirl says...

Both of these series have a fairly similar type of quiet nature about them. They focus on everyday life that isn't full of wacky adventures or battles, but instead have a gentle warmth about them. Both series also place focus on a central female character who has a specific weakness that makes their normal life more difficult and the new young boy in their lives who try to change their lives. While Air has more of a supernatural quality about it, if you liked one of the series, then it may be worth watching the other.

charliechan charliechan says...

Omurqi Omurqi says...

While Clannad has a lot more comic relief then Air has, both shows follow the same format: The male lead helping out the people around him with their problems. Both Air and Clannad follow this format with the relationship between the male character and one girl as red line through all of the arcs. If you liked one of these, give the other try.

Both series follow a guy with one 'main' female friend, and various others, who, at first, seem quite normal, but turn out to be not so normal after all. The protagonist, friendly as he is, wants to help his friends, no matter the cost.

Both series have beautiful artwork, great soundtrack and an interesting storyline. They are both slow-paced but interesting, funny as well as sad.

Both of these shows feature a main guy character who is unhappy with his lot in life and misjudged by the world aroud him who decides to take care of a girl who seems to be his polar opposite.  Although Taiga and Nagisa are very different characters, they both welcome the assistance of their male counterparts and become stronger because of their friendship with him.  They are both slice of life style animes that show friends dealing with the problems of everyday life, and just enjoying high school.  Both shows are incredible and should be watched by everyone.

Both of these stories revolve around a couple that slowly get together, with a harem theme going on, both taking place in school. Although Toradora! has a much strong female role in Taiga, both of them progress with a similar love arch in the background.

Both are excellent romantic comedies that start of with a strong comedic element before focusing on the romance/drama. Both have extremely funny and sad moments, so if you liked one you're sure to like the other.

Both animes are excellent love stories that devlop the main characters throughly, devling into their family life, school life, and love life; showing them how much they need each other without them knowing it.

Both animes offer a good amount of comedy as well and a great group of characters for the supporting cast. Clannad is definitely a little more serious than Toradora! however, both animes are not without their shining moments that make you feel for the characters and out yourself in their world.

awpaperwings awpaperwings says...

As I sat on my couch watching Toradora! I could not help thinking, "This is a lot like 'reverse Clannad.'" While there are exceptions, the male and female protagonists of the two shows seem to hold almost opposite roles. Also both feature moments of great comedy and gut-wrenching tragedy. Both are great romance stories and stand apart from the generic, 3 star harem romances that are oh-so-common. I highly recommend both of these shows.

Gharial Gharial says...

A Romantic Journey is the best way to describe both Clannad & Toradora! Both had the chance of needlessly throwing themselves away to the Harem genre, with the Female casts outweighing the Male cast, But thankfully don't! Large Smatterings of Comedy & Misunderstandings make these anime more than just a simple Romance. With well-built characters, a paced story & ultimately satisfying endings. Both shows are MUST sees!

yasmin09 yasmin09 says...

Both are romantic comedies/dramas with a slice-of-life element and balance out the comedy and drama so that neither aspect overwhelms the anime. There is good development among the relationships between characters fleshing them out and have them slowly mature and grow on each other throughout the anime. Both are beautifully done though Clannad has less realistic elements but both are still done wonderfully.

rusty0 rusty0 says...

Although the female protagonists are certainly very different characters, the lead male characters are both very similar, in that they always try to help the female protagonist, and dont realise their feelings untill late in the show.

Also the relationship that develops between the leads is very good in both cases, and is quite touching.

Kyusuri Kyusuri says...

Clannad and Toradora share several themes; for one both of them do a great job with comedy. As long as you're used to japanese humor, you're all set to enjoy both series. The drama and slice of life aspects are both great. Clannad though, has a more realistic feel imo. The characters are similar in a sense, with Tomoya willing to support Nagisa while Ryuji supports Taiga... the reasons are different though. With both stories, their friends play a major role to the plot development and both execute it close to perfect.

These two series are made for each other. Both feature wonderful characters, great comedy, tearjerker moments, highschool romance and high production values. Highschool romances at first glance, hilarious comedies at second. Both star the passive reclusive male lead who finds themselves attached to a rather unusual match. The laughs are what set these two apart from most HS romance.

These are both just great love stories. Both are cute and touching, with likeable characters. The male leads, Ryuuji and Tomoya, are quite similar and even loook alike. The love stories progress similarly and keep you engaged through all the entertaining side plots.Clannad has the best end song though ^-^

ipsilonv ipsilonv says...

The romances in these shows start from characters helping one-another. Not only do the characters help eachother directly, but they also help eachother emotionally. This helps create very strong bonds between the characters; bonds that the viewer can easily graps and share with the characters.

The relationships in the shows are between characters that, for different reasons, are depicted as undesirable partners to others. The idea is very well expressed in the introductory poem for Toradora:

"There's something in this world that no one has ever seen. It's something kind and very sweet. If people could see it, they would probably want it. That's why the world hid it; So that it wouldn't be so easy to find. But someday, someone will definitely find it. The one who is supposed to find it, will be the one to find it. That's just how it is."

The awesome comedy in both shows is also a very important factor for the success of each. They have very likeable characters that will trully make you smile and care about them. How much you care about the characters will be what ultimately determines how much emotional investment you put into these shows, and therefore how much you will enjoy them.

Bvision Bvision says...

Romance should be the main connection.

Toradora! also contains some of that tear jerking magic and in depth character development that Clannad has however its not as powerfull as Clannad in that area because of the comedy side Toradora! has compared to Clannad.

I've been solely into slice of life anime for quite a long time now, and can honestly say that there are almost no other shows out there as moving as Clannad or Anohana (5 cm per second comes really close though). These are the only two shows that have ever made me change the way I see or feel about the world, and I find that amazing to be coming from an animated show. Although Clannad season 1 was more just a dramatic harem to me than an emotionally touching show as After Story was, if you're looking for a show that will change your outlook on family and friends, I highly recommend Anohana and Clannad/AS. These two shows are probably the most beautiful pieces of work I've ever seen in my last 10 or so years of watching anime.

Lutefisk Lutefisk says...

Both of these stories are funny, heartfelt, and touching slice of life stories. If you like one you are almost certain to enjoy the other.

holms holms says...

Both have great characters, both about wishes, both makes you wanna cry out loud in the end, both teaching you to live, both makes you a better person. This is ELITE OF ANIME WORLD!

jypsel jypsel says...

Both Clannad and AnoHana have beautiful artwork that perfectly coincides with the story lines being presented.  They are both deep, melancholy animes that manage to pull heartstrings and yet somehow maintain a lighthearted feeling about them.

GrnEydDvl GrnEydDvl says...

There are very few shows out there that are so spectacularly emotional, heartwarming, gut-wrenching, mature, bittersweet, and serious, which can make you laugh and cry at the same time, but AnoHana and Clannad do just that.  Both of these shows center around a group of high school students as they deal with complex emotional issues, like love, loss, and mutual understanding.  The characters must deal with difficult problems from their past while trying desperatly to look towards the future.  Both shows are full of tears and laughter as the characters face with their problems with the support of others, finding themselves in the process.  There is also a stong element of the supernatural weaved through both shows that is vital to the plot.  These are two of the greatest shows I have ever seen, and if you want a break from the standard school-life story and wish for something a bit more involved and rich, then these shows are for you.  If you liked one, I'm sure you'll like the other.

HasseRovdjur HasseRovdjur says...

Both shows have gorgeous art style and a mix of comedy, drama and supernatural elements. While the execution and cast varies (AnoHana has more of an ensemble cast) they're both similar enough that I would recommend that fans of either work to check out the other work.

eaper eaper says...

These series each have a good mixture of comedy, romance, and drama. They focus around many of the same themes and follow a very similar age group. AnoHana is, however, on the whole, more dramatic and less comedy driven than Clannad.

renanbandelaria renanbandelaria says...

Both have very touching storylines that deal with love and loss.... GREAT WATCH, it also has quite a bit of comedy involved which makes the anime that much more AMAZING!

cahbayb cahbayb says...

Both are very very sad. They both deal with having a wish and over coming death. They also have a lighthearted seriousness to the plots. Clannad is more detailed and longer.

zelight zelight says...

both series shows funny moments and tells about how they develop friendship. and later part of both series features tear jerking moments...

cardcaptors8 cardcaptors8 says...

Both animes are emotionally touching and pleasant to watch. They are heartwarming and really pluck at the heartstrings of the viewer. Clannad has the advantage of a far greater number of episodes to allow for far more character and story development as well as allowing the viewer to become attached to the characters. However, Ano Hana still does an amazing job in all these areas despite far fewer installments and the smaller number of episodes is in no way a disadvntage as the length of the series feels just right.

Codieecho Codieecho says...

Both of these series revolve around a very serious tone and similar plot, they will also both thear you heart appart as you watch them T.T

Rifunger Rifunger says...

You will also like Anohana because it is the very dramatic and sad like Clannad and Clannad ~After Story~. While Clannad got this ' WHY?! Pleas no! ' -feels, Anohana got this nostalgia feels. Just watch this anime it's fucking great.

wargol wargol says...

in my opinion they're both highschool drama with a supernatural touch and a bit of humour mixed in.

they really make you connect with the characters while you go through the story and (especially for first time watchers) make you shed a tear or two at the end.

HexaSept HexaSept says...

Both are really emotional, in some parts. Clannad has more of a comedic side while Anohana is short and sweet, more serious.

Both are just amazing

GrnEydDvl GrnEydDvl says...

It's hard to find a show like Clannad that doesn't involve a bit of magic, but Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso actually manages to do just that.  These are not your everyday school life animes.  In each of these shows, a young man leans on his friends and companions for support as he struggles through a variety of extremely difficult situations.  Sometimes they resolve well, and sometimes they don't, but through all of his experiences he grows and learns.  Love and loss are central themes in each show, and they both have heartwarming and heartbreaking moments aplenty.  If you enjoyed the rollercoaster of emotions that is not typically present in a normal school life show, you will enjoy both of these.

renadesu3 renadesu3 says...

Both shows develop an extremely strong connection between the viewer and the relationships shared between characters. As well as this the two shows have extremely moving soundtracks, which highlights the impacts that events of the two respective shows have on the viewer. Also both are fantastic.

thomchris48 thomchris48 says...

both are gona F--k up up emotionally. of course that's an incredible feat to accomplish in todays desensitized society. both are a must see.

blueangel06661 blueangel06661 says...

Both are amazing tear jerkers. They make you happy, they make you sad, they make you angry.

Both series has a rich and deep storyline with amazing characters that you just learn to fall in love with and everything is going so wonderful. Up until everything you ever knew is falling apart.

They both require tissues but are well worth the watch.

Heervristi Heervristi says...

i just finished "Your lie in April" and i have to say WHY DO THE GOOD PEOPLE ALWAYS HAVE TO DIE ??????? ****cry a lot when watching this anime***** its just the same as in clannad, why the heck does the good person have to die???  they were both such great anime's. the only reason i like clannad better is because of the ending. if the ending would've been more like clannad this would be my N°1 anime EEEEVVVEEEERRRRRR!!!!!!!

Raku Raku says...

Without spoiling, I will say both shows are like a roller coaster. The only difference being Clannad has a bit more weirdness in it that's supernatural (such as a character disappearing and people forgetting about them) and some other odd things that I can't mention (cause of spoilers). While Your Lie in April's weirdness is all psychologically based where the character is drowning in tragedy, and haunted by a ghost from their past when in actually they're either sitting down freaking out on the inside.

maysillee maysillee says...

Clannad and Your Lie in April are like the anime versions of The Fault in Our Stars-they're achingly sweet and absolutely heartbreaking.  Despite the sadness, both shows have a bit of humor to them that really adds to the story and the atmosphere.  Watch these if you feel like crying. A lot.

YuiYui YuiYui says...

Both focus on a budding pairing and the struggles in building a romance, they both focus heavily on the emotional side. And of course, both include love triangles and drama. They both also feature the main girl with some sort of illness making them slightly weaker than others, and in both this becomes a main point of the development for all the characters. So I believe if you enjoyed one of these anime, check out the other.

GoldFishKing1 GoldFishKing1 says...

They both have a similar setting, a group of friends living the school life. They both have many great things in common. For instance, in both of these animes' there is a group of friends, and they all go to the same high school. Of course that mean there's gonna be a love triangle and drama. But in both of these shows, the main character/s truly know, or come to find out, there is only one person they truely love. They're similar in many aspects and perspectives.

YPaladin YPaladin says...

Need another school romance to complement this one? Then try Myself;Yourself. While it's not quite as brilliant or pretty in my opinion, Myself;Yourself does a good job of crafting interesting relationships. It's darker than Clannad, however, so be warned.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

Myself; Yourself and Clannad are both school romances. Myself; Yourself is more dramatic and darker than Clannad, although they both have similar types of character personalities. Clannad is more on the supernatural side of a student life whereas Myself; Yourself has a more realistic feeling to it with very in depth emotional problems having to be faced by the main characters. Even though Myself; Yourself seems like a lighthearted mini drama, there are heavy issues expressed.

Tyrcian Tyrcian says...

I find that these animes are extremely comforting because they clearly demonstrate strong bonds of friendships, romance and family. You may feel as though Clannad trails off vastly from what you thought was the main plot. Some may dislike this, but I think it simulates the unexpectedness of certain things in life. This "trailing-off" aspect, combined secrets waiting to be found behind a character's first impression, is why you will enjoy Myself; Yourself.

fizrox fizrox says...

In both anime there is some secret, which everyone are partly aware of but no one would ever speak of. Through the series, we follow main characters changing and getting closer to the answers they long to dicover. Both Myself; Yourself and Clannad are about high schoolers' every-day life filled with really hard problems and emotional issues.

Asraz Asraz says...

in myself yourself and clannad there are a lot of comedy factors a high school life with 5-6 people they both gradually becomes more and more dramatic romance factor applies both of them so if you like clannad or myself yourself you should try the other you wont regret it at all

YuiYui YuiYui says...

Myself; Yourself and Clannad are both around the school life of a group of teenagers and involve the dramas of getting through everyday however I do admit that the backstories in Myself; Yourself are much darker than Clannad. They are both quite lighthearted and slow in some areas where drama has been thrown. If you liked Myself; Yourself then you should enjoy Clannad and vise versa.

astraeadelta astraeadelta says...

Both are good anime. And the lesson taught is good. It is really fun to watch. Can't say anymore. But do watch it. -----------------------------------

muxmer muxmer says...

Similar in various ways, but way different in some other spots. It is way darker than clannad, as other people say, but something didn't quite feel right to me.. i mean, i would prefer to see a bit of the relationship between the couple.. mixed feelings. It is worth watching but not as awesome as it could be in my opinion.

JustAbigail JustAbigail says...

It's hard to describe, but I found Fruits Basket and CLANNAD to have a very similar feel to them. Both are fairly lighthearted with an almost half-and-half blend of drama and comedy. The drama is very sentimental and the comedy revolves around the characters' antics, and neither relies on dirty jokes or references to other anime series. Both take place at the main character's high school a fair amount, and both deal with similar themes: friendship, family and acceptance. There are also some very, very light romantic undertones between characters here and there. If you like one, it's *very* likely that you'll like the other.

foltor foltor says...

Fruits Basket and Clannad are both high school comedy-dramas with subtle romantic undertones which deal with themes of developing emotional intimacy and finding a sense of belonging. I find them both higly uplifting and rewatchable.

The comedy in Fruits Basket is a bit more broad and slapstick while Clannad is more bizarre and esoteric. Fruits Basket also has some rather dark aspects as the plot unfolds, whereas Clannad (as of episode 15) is pretty consistently optimistic. Fruits Basket is also more focused on the development of its three core characters and only strays from them for brief intervals, but Clannad spends several episodes at a time in a subplot exploring the issues of one of the secondary characters.

meph meph says...

Fruits basket and Clannad both deal with similar themes and they compliment each other nicely. Either involve harem or reverse harems. Both involve a central character (Tohru from fruits basket and Okazaki from Clannad) who grows from there experience with others as well as helping others grow. Both series have excellent character development and a wonderful dramatic comedy with a little bit of romance sprinkled in.

Both series have similar feels to them and if you like one it’s a near guarantee you will like the other.

Merryberry Merryberry says...

If your the type of anime fan who likes watching series with:

  • Comedy
  • Character Development
  • Helping other characters
  • And a touch of seriousness at the right moment

Then both Clannad and Fruit Basket fit the deal. With the delicate blend of sheer outrageous comedy and then incredibly serious scenes, both series manage to pull this off. Through in a good soundtrack, characters and animation makes it possible for you to be able to watch one as easily as the other.

narutou narutou says...

I would reccomend this because both series have a similar type of humor and are definitely fun to watch. Clannad has a more supernatural feel to it while Fruits Basket is more down to earth.

WalkingEast WalkingEast says...

Fruits Basket and Clannad are two of the most touching anime I've taken the time to watch this year. Both have sweet characters who are thrust together by destiny. Although Fruits Basket is more light hearted, both share a mild exploration of the supernatural, and both have some touching moments.

Clannad is the deeper of the two, with some honest tear jerking scenes, but if you're not ready to get into the heady undertow of that show, or if you've just gotten out of it, Fruits Basket will be a welcome bastion.

AlienicoN AlienicoN says...

It's strange to suggest but true. Each one is based around a cheerful girl who doesn't want to hurt anyone around her.

The overall view on characters can also compare. A wide variety of different personalities.

You'll know when you realize that you've been cheering for the main characters throughout each series from beginning to end.

TheOtakuPrincess TheOtakuPrincess says...

Clannad and Fruits Basket are both cute shojo animes that are aimed pretty much at the same audience. Clannad is more romancey than Fruits Basket, which focuses more on solid relationships between the characters. Clannad also has a majority of female characters, while Fruits Basket has a majorily male cast.

If you've enjoyed Nagisa from Clannad, you will definaltely enjoy Tohru from Fruits Basket. Both are cutesy girls with similar personalities, emotions, expressions, and feelings.

5 Centimeters per Second

5 Centimeters per Second

Although today Tono Takaki and Shinohara Akari live far apart due to a family move shortly after elementary school, they were once two shy young students brought together by their shared differences from their peers. It is because of this that the two built a bond of closeness between them that still survives through their continued correspondence, even over such a distance. Secretly they both fear the loss of this bond over time, and for this reason they arrange a meeting between just the two of them. The journeys both of them take in their minds and in their lives create an atmosphere of intense emotional upheaval, but also a sense of peace. It is a twist of fate and a series of decisions that put the two in place to carry what they choose of their pasts into the future they will create for themselves.

RaptorClaw RaptorClaw says...

5 CM and Clannad have a distinct feeling of romance, and take place in high school. They are slow-paced with beautiful scenery and intricate dialogues and monologues that keep the story going without giving too much to the viewer.

awpaperwings awpaperwings says...

5 Centimeters per Second and Clannad are very different animes with very different feels, yet both set out to say something about love and relationships. Some of the similarities are their school-life setting and scenery and a chapter by chapter pacing. Their differences are that in Clannad comedy is a focal point in the show, there are 5 or more well developed characters and a more light-hearted feel. In 5 Centimeters per Second however, there is intentionally little or no character development, creating more universally understandable characters. The mood of 5 Cm is much more melancholy than Clannad, but over all both are highly recommended. If you liked one, I'm sure you will like the other.

eaper eaper says...

Clannad and 5 cm share a strong sense of love, while having a lot of the sorrowful parts of it intact. Also, each of the series are slow paced and, (at least for a lot of 5 cm and all of Clannad) centered in high school. If you like the romance or pace in either of these, you'll likely enjoy the other.

ishmael1991 ishmael1991 says...

There are major differences to the feel, mainly because one is a feauture length movie and the other is a series. However, they share the same good points,as they are both beautifully produced, and emotional. Mainly though, if you like visually beautiful animes, both of these are must sees.

theazariah theazariah says...

I should probably recomment 5 cm per second to Clannad After Story, but regardless it's the same sort of classic longing-love story.

Both stories follow the characters through a long period of time too. There is a lot of focus on the "growing up" process and what it's like to be a young adult in different situations.

5cm ranges from grade school to age ~25 and Clannad with the after story ranges from 15 to ~25.

Both have very different endings I suppose but stylistically they're presented in a similar way.

Also, sakura are pretty prominent in both i guess.

YuiYui YuiYui says...

Both 5 Centimeters per Second and Clannad are Slow paced, Romance stories and are both pretty good. The story in both is very detailed and they both are mainly set in a school so there ae quite a few similarities. The main difference is that Clannad involves some comedy so it isn't all serious and 5 Centimeters per Second only really focus' on the romance (keeping it serious). So if you liked one you should like the other.

Soolrak Soolrak says...

Tomoya Okazaki and Haruhi Suzumiya are both bored. After all it's the same thing day after day. I think you will enjoy how life gets interesting all of a sudden for when the right people and an idea come together.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

In Clannad and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya the main characters are bored and want to make a club. They also both have supernatural aspects to them and a bunch of crazy situations, with comical moments intertwined.

Hadogenes Hadogenes says...

I think there is "something" what is connecting this series. I can't tell what exactly it is, maybe the crankiness (<- first use of this word ;) ) of both anime.

But there are many obvious facts which connects these anime ex. both anime are around some club in school (the topis of both clubs are extremely different, but in both there is reactivating or creating new club), both main male characters are similar (bored, but when they meet main female they change a bit).

In Clannad there is more, what I called it, philosophy babble.

Clannad is little worse than Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, but if someone very like the second he will also enjoy Clannad.

fizrox fizrox says...

Both series are about a group of high school friends having many ideas and problems in the same time. The main characters are boy and a girl who have some feelings for each other. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, these anime are much alike.

Qplayer Qplayer says...

Besides the fact that both are harem animes, both Clannad and Haruhi Suzumiya have bored, sarcastic male lead narrators whose commentary really holds the story together. There are parallels one can see between other characters in the series. Both series have random comedic moments as well as serious, calmer scenes.

eaper eaper says...

Both of these series are Slice of Life, based around making a club, and the main character in each is a rather apathetic boy that gets attached to the main female without completely recognizing it fully. Also, they both have some harem within.

4EverDreamer 4EverDreamer says...

Both shows have a male central character who find themself being drafted for a club. The shows are very humorous, and have some perverted fun. Also, there are underlying supernatural occurances
