Synopsis:

Summer break is now over; the second semester has started for Tomoya, Nagisa and the others, and little has changed. Since Tomoya's relationship with his father is still troubled, he continues to live with Nagisa and her family, even if it means getting roped into organizing a baseball team for the family bakery. Life at school continues as normal with Sunohara as carefree as ever; however, when his sister Mei voices her concerns about him, the series of events that follow place a strain on Sunohara and Tomoya’s friendship. Whether it's saving a person from themselves or passing on a message from the past, one thing’s for sure: no matter how tough things get, good friends will always be there to help out.

Kokoro Connect

At Yamaboshi High, joining a school club is required, so when Himeko, Iori, Taichi, Yoshifumi and Yui couldn't find a suitable choice, they decided to create their own: the School Culture Club! Together, they pass the days meeting and coming up with topics for the group's newspaper – that is, until one day, Yoshifumi and Yui proclaim that they switched bodies last night! Soon after, all five members of the gang find themselves inadvertently swapping at random, with no end in sight. What, or who, caused this supernatural phenomenon?

Both of these shows show a group of friends as they learn more about each other, learn more about themselves, and learn how much they need each other's support as they go through various emotionally trying challenges.  There is an element of the supernatural that is vital to each story, which helps give these shows a different feel from most school life animes.  They have serious moments, humorous moments, and heart-wrenching moments, and if you liked one, you will definitely like the other.

Shoujo Cosette feels a lot like a longer version of the last arc in Clannad: After Story. And both shows involve leaving behind you child when you can't take care of her and suddenly having to take care of a little girl when you have never been a parent before. If you like one you should watch the other.

Since Clannad ~After Story~ is merely a continuation of the story in the anime adaptation, everything I said before about the first season still applies to After Story. However, it is within After Story of Clannad that the real potential of the series is brought to life. It will also be this way within the Refrain arc of Little Busters! later on within the series. Visual novel wise, both After Story and Refrain are continuations of the main heroine's stories (Nagisa in Clannad and Rin in Little Busters!) and they wrap up the plot of each series within a whole. Each have a stunning and beautiful ending.

Both of these stories showcase a young male lead, going nowhere in life that "discovers" a girl that ends up changing their entire view on life. As we progress through both the main characters shed their old lifestyle and develop a new one, for both themselves and the one that they love. While this recommendation could also be for Clannad, it relates more directly to After Story itself. While Mind Game has a very abstract feel, Clannad After Story is more concrete, and focuses on emotion.

What makes each of these shows special is the depth of the relationships between the characters.  Unlike many school romances, these shows take things one step further and show that everything isn't always perfect, that friendship and love involve trials, and not everyone always gets what they want.  There is something deeper in these shows that you don't see in a lot of animes.  They really explore the human heart and all it's levels and leave you feeling happy and sad at the same time.  There is a supernatural element to each show that is vital to the plot.  There's not a lot of anime out there that does what these shows do, and if you liked one I'm sure you'll like the other.
