If you liked the Clannad After Story anime, the Anime-Planet community thinks you'd like:
The eccentric Suzumiya Haruhi wants nothing more than to meet aliens, time travelers and espers… but she’ll have to settle for the everyday Kyon instead! Along with the mysterious Itsuki and the vacant Mikuru, the duo forms the SOS Brigade – a club whose mission is to discover the mysteries of the world. Armed with a razor sharp wit and a skill for manipulation, Haruhi will stop at nothing to have fun at all costs, even at the expense of Mikuru’s dignity!
I believe that if you like Clannad ~After Story~ or Suzumiya Haruhi No Yuutsu you would like the other because of these reasons.
1: They both take place in High Schools
2. They also both have a good if not simliar statement on how life can reward you
3. They both have the same element of a rogue if not weird or questionable person changing over time
4. They both have a simliar pattern as to how the plot goes forward from its beginning
5.Both of these anime's would surely not dissapoint the idle watcher and definitely not the hardcore otaku because they present a little bit of each genre of anime except machine/blood violence.
Shinichiro Nakagami is an everyday high school student, with the exception of having his beautiful and athletic childhood friend Hiromi Yuasa living in his household after the death of her parents. Unfortunately, their relationship is cold at best - Shinichiro can tell that she is suffering, but she acts coldly and distant from her foster family and so he is unable to help ease her sadness. His family is also forcing him to practice a traditional Japanese dance that does not interest him, adding to his frustration. On top of that, he is cursed to misfortune by another girl in school, the eccentric Noe Isurugi. Shinichiro juggles all of these problems on a day-to-day basis as he learns about love and the sadness of those around him.
Yesterday, Kyon was helping prepare for an SOS Brigade Christmas party. But today, he wakes up to a whole other world. Haruhi and the SOS Brigade are gone, Koizumi's class is missing, Asahina doesn't recognize him, Nagato is still a Literary Club member and even Ryoko Asakura has returned. As the only person who notices that everything has changed, Kyon is left to discover what happened to his friends and figure out if his life truly is better without aliens, time travelers and ESPers.
Without ruining the story, these two share a key element. Loss and loneliness. The stories themselves are quite different, but I found they evoke similar emotions.
They also both have AMAZING soundtracks that can break or lift your heart.
As I once saw, to put it succinctly, both of these animes "punch your heart in the face."
Tatsuhiro Sato is a university dropout and a "hikikomori" – a person suffering from social withdrawal. To Sato’s dismay, his self-imposed exile from the world is rudely interrupted when a mysterious girl knocks on his door. She has charged herself with the task of curing Sato of his hikikimori ways! Now, as new problems ranging from hentai games to internet suicide spring up, can Sato manage to overcome his hermit-like ways, or will the imaginary N.H.K conspiracy force him to remain a hikikomori forever?
While from the outside it might look like Clannad: AS and Welcome to the NHK! don't have much in common aside from shared genre traits, I think both animes do go well with eachother; both are very emotionally charged animes with some times of comic relief. Both animes have a very strong story that covers a lot of serious and often times relatable themes that aren't always cheery. Where Clannad and the After Story cover the love intrest in more of a open way that HNK, and NHK deals a lot with social issues like anxiety, I'm sure whether your new to this kind of anime or a seasoned Romance/Drama buff, if you enjoyed one you'll enjoy the other!
It's December 24th, and everyone is in the mood for Christmas festivities. Luckily Minamo, Hinata, Nozomi and the rest of the gang thought ahead and planned a...cosplay party?! The night is young and fantasies run rampant, as the friends make their way to the gathering; but though they'd like nothing more than to arrive quickly and safely, various obstacles stand in their way: a flying ship, express trains and a mysterious familiar young girl! Can the friends manage to get to the party on time?
Clannad after story has the same 'supernatural, yet realistic' romance/bishoujo feel as Wind. It also has a lot of humor, which makes it similar to this anime. Although, the after story is somewhat darker than the first portion.
